One of us thought that having an air freshener in our car would be a good idea.  The other did not.  Hence the disagreement.  The main reason for resisting the air freshener seems to be the notion that having one in the car seemed "trailer-park-ish" or "white trashy."

FACTS YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU CAST YOUR VOTE:

1. Car is new-ish (2-3 years old).

2. Non-smokers, no pets, no kids, we don't eat in the car (i.e. the car does not stink in the absence of an air freshener).

3. The air freshener clips to the visor, so it's not like a "hangy pine tree from the rear view mirror" air freshener.

What says you?

I have one of those Febreze ones that clips to the air vent.

Disclaimer: I have two kids who play travel hockey and their gear reeks.  I don't care if its white-trashy, I'm in self-preservation mode.

ETA:  Not a good choice for a vote for me.  I would say not trashy in your case, since it's not hanging from the rear-view. Anything hanging from a rear view is trashy.

I bought a used car that had two of those clip-on thingies attached to the vents. The car STUNK of fake potpourri. It was gross. The only thing that got rid of the odor was a mixture of vinegar and baking soda.

Then I had to deal with the scent of vinegar for the next 3 months, but at least that smell eventually faded away.

Anyway, my vote would be "Yes it's trashy".

You want a pine scent and you want it now, am I right?

Right with you.  Air fresheners are the devil's work, along with dryer sheets.

Of course, having the car smell like Massengill isn't the best either.

I have a newish car (2015) that I keep clean and I use the fabreze car clips.  I'm not a smoker and I don't have pets.  I'm constantly driving people around and the vast majority of people that have ridden in my car have said my car always looks and smells clean.  I get that not all air fresheners smell the greatest--but if you find one that smells good--I don't see anything trashy about it.

I use one of These (roughly the size of an household fire alarm) in my SUV.

But I often run in the summer, in the afternoon, in Alabama, then get in my car. And leave damp towels in the car. So my wife actually "strongly encouraged" me to get the industrial sized one.

It sits on the floor, if that makes it better.

And for the all the:

"she's right"

"don't poke the bear..."

"not worth it"

comments, GAWDAMMIT fellas--where do you plant your flag?  Aye, fight this fight and you may die. Run and you'll live -- at least a while. And dying in your beds many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance--just one chance--to come back here and tell your wife that she may place an air freshener in your car, but she'll never take your freeeeeeedom!!!

I have truck nutz hanging from my rearview. When people get road-ragey with me, I point to myself and then point to the nutz. Works two ways: either they get that "I am nutz" and back off, or they think I'm being self-deprecating by admitting I am male genitalia and they calm down.

In England, they think I am saying "I'm the bollocks" and they agree.

Get one of those yankee trading candle air freshener things. Tell her how expensive it was.

There is a reason that stupid company can charge like 20 bucks for a poop closet candle and it isnt men.

i vote no unless you are driving uber, your seat is beaded, your ancestry is south sudanese or your driving to pick up some 40s cause your homes just got bam bam bammed in a drive by.

I use the blue “new car smell” trees but leave them under the seat. I get compliments on how clean and good my truck smells all the time.

Generally no. The ones hanging from rear view mirrors are kind of tacky and remind me of high school, but I clip on one of the ari freshners to a vent in the backseat. It makes the car smell nice, seems ok to me?

1) there are some really nice car air fresheners that smell great and do not seem trashy
2) if you can buy it at Walmart, it is probably not one of the above

I personally can't stand those clip on vent air fresheners.

Not that they're trailer trashy but more that the smell is overwhelming when the air is turned on.

Reminds me of times I'm at a movie theater or a restaurant and the old lady sits near by ...

and the smell of her Channel no.5 is singe-ing the hairs of my nostrils. Did she really have to marinade herself in it?

Is it asking much to just have fresh air to breathe while I eat my meal ... or watch a movie for 2 hours? ..Sheesh.

I promptly remove the clip on's from the wifes or kids cars when I get in ... whether I'm driving or passenger.

The only reason to have an air freshener in the car (or house) is to cover up a foul stink. Period.
