SF WR Situation (1 Viewer)

Any new information on the San Fran WR depth chart? I've looked for the last couple of days and haven't found anything new on the subject. I'm assuming Bruce will start in one spot and then there will be a mix of guys in the slot and at the WR2 spot. I'm mainly curious about Josh Morgan's role, if any, but usually the WRs in Martz' system have some sort of value.

I don't think one guy is going to benefit to the point of creating a top 30 WR. The ball will be spread out and Gore will be the big beneficiary statistically.

I disagree. artz always has guys that catch a lot of passes. Granted Martz never worked with a team quite as bad as SF, the Lions were pretty close to it. He managed to get some serious points out of Furrey and McDonald. My guess would be Battle or Morgan getting the balls thrown at them. If Morgan though, it wont be for at least a few weeks. I thnik they still need to get time to all play on the same page. Basically, at this point, its a gamble IMO. Gore will surely get his though.

Although all the receivers will benefit, Martz has a knack for making one receiver the prime beneficiary. I still believe that player will be Bryant Johnson. The team signed him to specifically be the #1 receiver.

Granted, he has been hampered by a hamstring injury, but seems to be recovered from that, (at least for now). He finally played in the last preseason game, and played reasonably well (3 catches for like 45yds).

I expect Johnson and Bruce to be the two starters, with Johnson getting the most targets. I have no idea on the slot receiver

I'll be honest, I like Morgan's potential in the offensive schema. I drafted Morgan in 2 leagues in the 16th round to see if he pans out. In the few games I watched, he looked pretty solid. Guess we'll see what pans out.

So are the SF folks still as high on Morgan as they were earlier in preseason?
I think alot of people thought they got thier hands on the next Colston. They didn't...
Josh Morgan was seriously ill for a week which greatly detracts from a fast start, he missed about 5 straight practices. Bryant Johnson has an injury history over the years that is not a positive, hamstrings various sleg injuries I believe, he has never been more than a WR3.I think Morgan will ultimately be the 49ers best WR over the long term but is a dynasty play only, not a Colston.I think BJ is the best right now but it doesnt matter; he will be reduced by sharing wth Bruce, Hill/Battle and TE Vernon Davis.

Vernon...Davis. Someone with the offensive genius Martz supposes surely can't be blind to the weapon that is...Vernon...Davis.

(Vernon Davis owner :bag: )

I actually this Bruce could easily push into the top 30. I think he'll be the most consistent option at WR, and could push 70 catches, 1000 yards and 5+ TDs. He's missed a handful of games the last few years, so that's a concern. It's just hard to argue with his proven track record, and his prior experience in a Martz-run offense. The other guys have good potential, but no solid production to fall back on.

Johnson looked pretty good in the limited glimpses I caught of him on Friday. Shaun Jason Hill caught some balls too and looked o.k.

Both Smith and Hill looked bad at QB - this whole offense could fall apart when O'Sullivan gets hurt (or sucks himself).

San Fran should consider converting Shaun Hill from QB to WR. :sadbanana:

:sadbanana: To say that the 1 year 2 Million dollar deal Johnson matters at all at this point is ridiculous. Morgan and Johnson will both get legit shots at taking a big role in this offense. Whomever does best at it will be a fantasy factor this year.

I like B Johnson to be the #1 with Morgan and Hill joining him in the next few years. I think they will have at leat 3-4 wrs with at least 60 catches, but the question is what they do with those catches. Bruce will definitely produce this year but I reallt believe Johnson is the man.

:goodposting: Finally something entertaining from the Niners.

There will likely be about 4 viable fantasy options from the Niners passing game...Bryant, Bruce, Davis...and I have no idea.

Relax - if O'Sull could do that, he'd never leave the house.

Split end. Mike Nolan insists that it's still a dead heat between veteran Bryant Johnson and rookie Josh Morgan, who were arguably the team's most productive two receivers throughout the entire offseason. But pencil in Johnson to start Sunday against Arizona. Here's what Mike Martz had to say on the matter: It's hard with Josh because he's a rookie. The tempo of a regular season and preseason game is substantially different [especially] to play under that pressure all of a sudden if you're a rookie that's assured. The timing's not really like it was in the preseason because you're panicky. There's that growth process for those guys that you've kind of got to fight through. So to say that Josh is the guy that's going to start excelling at stuff, he's in it obviously but we're really kind of depending on [bryant Johnson] to step up now and be healthy and ready to go." Nolan also said that Morgan would be playing special teams in the regular season. Morgan's been practicing on several special-teams units but didn't play there in the preseason because he was a starter at receiver (In games 1-3). If he's playing specials teams on Sunday it only stands to reason that he won't be a starter at receiver.
