Shane Veeren OUT till Week 11 (Short-Term IR) (1 Viewer)

I agree on Bolden. He's 8 years younger than Leon Washington and showed some flashes last year. He practiced fully so we may see him in action against the Jets. Otherwise Washington may be a desperation one week play against the Jets if you have no better options.

In PPR, I think Ridley and Bolden are the only Patriot's RBs worth rostering at this point, while Vereen is on IR.
Got a link on that full practice? I saw limited, which the Pats listed Gronk as limited as well, so...
You are correct, he was listed as limited not full. I'll edit my post.

^ My apologies David if you have already chimed in recently about this, but what is your take on the rb situation sans the Vereen news (Bolden, Washington, Blount)?
Bolden will eventually be the best option while Vereen is out, but he's probably not healthy enough to play. That being said, he's not Vereen. I suspect the Pats will ride Ridley tonight to the tune of 150/1-2. Blount is a house and might be brought in while Vereen is out in short yardage situations (maybe even once in a while at the GL). I don't have a lot of faith in them using Washington. From what I can tell, they were looking at him as a returner, but now they may have to rethink their position and see what he has left to offer as a RB. Don't see anyone other than Ridley doing that much tonight.

I see the Pats just trying to somehow win the game without sustaining any more injuries, so I don't see them using the hurry up and instead see them trying to have long, sustained drives to just get the game over with. If NE doesn't turn the ball over like last week, they should win and not have to overexert themselves. However, playing a conservative, ball control, field position game should serve to keep scoring down. Pats win something like 19-10 or 20-12 or something goofy like that.

While Washington has looked broken down, he does have more experience than the rest of this rag tag offense. Brady and BB might want someone in there that at least can dive in the right direction to block a blitz or stumble into open space in the flat.

I think for the next 2 weeks Leon is a desperation flex choice but going further into the season, Bolden seems like the guy to own.

Totally agree. Washington makes sense on a short week with everyone else injured, but it's very hard to envision him playing over Bolden in a couple weeks.

Vereen will get the most total yards each week in pats backfield, Ridley will get 40 rushing a game and a TD every other week.

After all this build up how much would it suck if he was just fit into the committee and not given a lead role?

Drafted Vereen, so it felt right to get him back off the WW this week. Unless you have a glaring weakness, I guess it's a case of sitting him in week 11 to get a firmer idea of how he will fit in ?

Bolden's been pretty good and Blount seems to have locked down a late-game pounder role. Could end up being a 4-way RBBC and a week to week mess.

Cannot wait to put this guy in my lineup
Agree, jonesing here.

What are your thoughts on Ridley with Vereen coming back?
I think the Pats are looking forward to implementing the game plan they had before the season - Vereen and Gronk, Dobson and Amendola with a dose of Edelman, Ridley running down the clock - I think with Dobson more schooled, Danny A healthy and Vereen back this is again going to be an offense to acquire players from.

Personally, I like my other RBs and am trying to move Vereen for something else in case he comes back and it turns into a 3 or 4 way committee. I may be wrong, but I don't feel it's a slam dunk he comes in and takes his full role back, especially not for the first few games. I do worry about him taking on the Bolden-type role plus more receptions though, which would be very nice (and I'd hate to give that away).

I guess we wait to see how the committee plays out in week 11, but I see Ridley as potentially being the lead guy here.

Vereen had a feature role before his injury? Really??? So many here are saying/assuming that if Ridley hadn't fumbled week 1 that Vereen would've still gotten the lions share of touches?

O.K....

I don't see how anyone would be confident of either guys role as a RB and how it will play out. I am confident that Vereen will be the receiving back out of the backfield, lined up wide.

Sigh.

I thought that this had been beaten to death.

The two runners have different styles.

Ridley's strength is running the ball - Vereen excels at receiving.

Some people point to the second half of game 1 after Ridley fumbled and Vereen went off.

That is not a long term trend - expect Vereen to take Bolden off the field - everything else will likely stay the same.

Vereen is a dual threat and can be used to exploit match ups running and receiving. Ridley is probably a better runner but Vereen provides more options. sorry, but those that say that Vereen is only going to take over Bolden's role (which would be about 7-9 touches a game) are fooling themselves.

And you as a Ridley owner know this because you take money shots from bill?

I wanted to trade Vereen prior to the start of the season. I still see him as a boom bust each week partly due fumbling and being benched. With the injury, my plan got derailed. I'm hoping he comes back with fresh legs and looks unstoppable. Depending on my team record, i will look to trade him again.
