Shark Pool Fanaticism (1 Viewer)

Onterrio Smith SOD
:fishing: That was crazy on this site.... I ended up with him on most of my teams too.Barlow, Bennett, Marshall.
Smith played very well - he just didn't keep his head in the game. Guy has a career 5+ YPC. :lmao: Can't blame the people who said he'd be a player.

I am amusingly surprised by the number of posts the Chris Johnson thread has amassed. Obviously CJ is a talent and has some serious upside. I just can't believe the action around this kid. This lead me to wonder has this ocurred in year's past with other players is the Shark Pool? Who were they and how did it turn out? Was the SP right or did the player bust out amid the hype?
Typically we get this is the year Ron Dayne and David Boston breaks out threads.I'm a little disappointed this year actually.

One of the better years was the <3 Barlow threads making everyone in the SP take him in the first round.

Don't forget Matt Jones, everyone loved him. Because white WRs who were QBs obviously have a proven track record as phenomenal fantasy WRs.

So yeah, Chris Johnson should be about the same.

On a fanatic site like this there are gonna be many hits and misses. Every player and every situation is unique. Lee Evans and Adrian Peterson being hyped in prior years has absolutely zero bearing on Chris Johnson.

Watch him play and come to your own conclusions. Try to think about the situation besides just how CJ looks.

I'll give you my run down...

CJ is extremely fast. 4.24 electronic time at the combine already told us that but watching him run on tape shows that he's got game speed not just track speed. But just as importantly, CJ runs hard. He hits the hole after making just one cut and is a blur. He'll put a shoulder down when necessary and runs with good power given his smaller frame. He also catches the ball well and didn't make any glaring blocking mistakes that I noticed.

The Titans are a run first team. They have a great defense and a very good OLine. Lendale will get plenty of looks this year. He's a bruiser and actually has decent burst given his size. He looks out of shape but that's deceiving. He will be the plodder, the guy used to run up the gut at the heart of the D to wear them down.

Jeff Fisher has a USC background. He watched Lendale and Reggie Bush very closely during their time together. I'd expect a very similar usage in Tenn. RBBC all the way. Not as many carries for CJ as Lendale but a lot more catches.

Final point is that VY's passing is still a work in progress. If his legs are healthy he is enough of a weapon to make this offense very dangerous. But if he hurts his wheels again like last season it could be another tough go for this offense.

ReShard Lee hasn't been brought up yet?

edit: That's what happens when you do a search and there are different spellings of the name on the page

It's not simply hype - there's some evidence behind this. Just seeing the kid play should answer some questions. There's a lot of video out there on all the guys now - and while most of us aren't NFL scouns, there are certain judgements one can make based on such, even on "great play" highlight videos.

For example, for me personally, I think Mendy had a lot of hype. Yet nothing I saw on video made me feel he warranted it. Product of the system, not that great a back (my .02, not looking to debate it here). Thus, I stayed away. Hype not bought into.

McFadden - tons of "anti" hype. But I liked him in every college game of his I watched. Liked what I saw on video, too. Liked what I saw in preseason. Drafted him with confidence. Hype (anti in this case) again not bought into.

CJ3 - Saw one game of his in college. Liked him a lot. Still, was smaller... watched more video... wow, he's scary fast... He was drafted to the perfect place. He also fits into my personal theory of just how the NFL/FF is changing (CoP backs that are more than simply CoP). Hype bought into - I think he's legit. Drafted at 4.1 of a new startup, traded for in another.

"Untradeable" studs come from somewhere. You either get them early (meaning you may be labled as buying into the hype when it's there) or you may end up on the outside looking in (obviously, this is more from a dynasty perspective.)
