Back about 6pm EST. Though I dont know what the deal is for the weekend, typically things get stuck around here on Sat and Sun.
I like the deal and agree that Fairly would be the pick if he lasted to 1.08. I really don't see the draft unfolding this way, but I like it.I think if the Titans get out of the first round with Gabbert, it would be a success. I wouldn't want to see them do this for Newton, but I think Gabbert would be a little more solid of a pick. It's not really in their makeup to move up, but it makes sense in this instance. For a Franchise that just hit the restart button, a top QB is a great addition. If this trade doesn't go down irl, then I would expect Fairly with the DL coach connection.
Hey Dave R, I'm a few time zones away from NE Ohio but grew up there and have stayed a big Browns fan.Detroit is on the clock.'daveR said:Ah yes! The Sanity Clause! Great stuff!Bracie, if you're in / around Cleveland, we gotta get together some day!Lets see the sanity clause in that contract. So you are serious. This is one of the nuttier things I've read here. You really think teams are going to "pay" for the privilege of obtaining a worse pick? Too funny."Couple bucks." ;DI suppose that's relative. So you think an NFL team would do this just to save a couple bucks? He wants to trade down. A lot of teams want to move down. If a team thinks it stands to benefit by picking where it's supposed to, then it wouldn't be shopping the pick.
So if he gets to move down in the first, he gets what he wants. Should the team benefit again by moving up in the second?
Like I said a few times, the top 1/2 of the first round is not where a lot of teams want to be this year. So teams aren't going to be tripping over themselves to try and get into the top 15.
The further you move down in the first the less you spend on players, and if the value of the draft is outside the top 1/2 of the first round, then giving up a few slots in the 2nd is not a huge deal.
The only reason I want to move up is that my team has specific positions of need that have some nice players in the 7-13 range. But I'll manage just fine at 17.
Just supply and demand. There are projected to be a lot of first day movement this year. If a lot of teams want to move up, you'll be able to make ground on your higher picks. If a lot of teams feel the value is in moving down, you may have to pay a little bit to do so.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KS2khYJZKwA&feature=related
I don't fault the pick as real NFL teams draft on need all the time. I feel the BPA is who I thought the Saints should pick in Prince Amukamara, can't fault them as they drafted a fine prospect in Bowers. For the Vikes I would have picked Nate Solder, I actually like him more than Tyron Smith.Who would you want them to take if it fell like this?Spielman and Frazier have been stressing BPA in their latest interviews. I am hoping they are being truthful because I would be disitraught if they took Locker there.A big reach! Definitely the Vikes biggest need & a sexier pick than an OL I guess.Good pick. Locker has a nice arm, and with some coaching, could be throwing deep strikes to two top tier receivers for years. Cheers.Let's try this again...1.12 - Jake Locker, QB WashingtonI've actually come around on Locker. His ability to throw on the run is a good skill to have and I like the reports of his technique improving with just a little coaching this offseason. I think he has the talent to be a franchise QB and would be very satisfied if the Vikes selected him.![]()

Good question. I think they're going to get a veteran to come in and he'll be the guy. But if not, then it would be Locker. Joe Webb will never be the guy.So if they took Locker here who do you think starts at QB opening day?Well I am drafting for the Vikings so...there you go.Man, this has to be the most embarrassing moment in NFL draft history.![]()
Yes I would. I don't get the Kolb hype. And as far as this draft goes, I think the Houston pick is wrong. I don't see Bowers fitting into a 3-4 defense. I don't think he'd be a very good 3-4 OLB and he's too small to be an end. I think the Texans would take Prince, in which case I would have had the Vikes take Bowers. You would prefer Locker over Kolb?
Agreed, I think Prince would be the pick for Houston if he would make it to their pick. Houston's secondary isn't very good. I don't care how good Bowers is if he doesn't fit the scheme are you going to get the most out of him, probably not.Good question. I think they're going to get a veteran to come in and he'll be the guy. But if not, then it would be Locker. Joe Webb will never be the guy.So if they took Locker here who do you think starts at QB opening day?Well I am drafting for the Vikings so...there you go.Man, this has to be the most embarrassing moment in NFL draft history.

The Locker pick might be a BIT early (maybe), but in real life he will NOT be there with their 2nd pick and he is still a better talent with more upside than any other QB taken at this point and his abilities have started to reveal themselves through the post season workouts. I think he was poorly coached at Washington, was surrounded by very little talent, and had some bad mechanics issues due to his participation in baseball (which sound like they're quickly being ironed out). His stock is on the rise again and people will be surprised about where he goes. I expect someone to trade back into the latter half of the 1st if he falls that far.The only other position I considered for the Vikes was d-end.The Locker pick is really early. With the Vikes having a high 2nd round pick Locker will still be there if not Mallet. Or wait till round 4 for a Stanzi or Kaepernick. Too bad they literally gave away a 3rd round for absolutely NOTHING!![]()
Week 1 of the 2012 season Matthew Stafford is placed on IRI feel like the Vikings need to rebuild rather than reload. This QB inflation makes it a buyer market for the other positions. Speilman has said that they are looking at 5 positons with their top pick. It is important to get two blue chip players in this draft. My preference would be to OT and G/C with their second but I wouldn't reach. Vikings should take Prince under the circumstances. The possible prolonged lockout could compromise training camp and pre-seaon games. A terrible situation for a rookie QB that needs to be developed to be throw in. Thus. I believe the Vikings need to evalute the current QBs against the 2012 QB prospects. I say let other teams spend 1st and 2nd rounders on this years developmental QBs and see if they are willing to waste back to back picks on a top QB next year.Who would you want them to take if it fell like this?Spielman and Frazier have been stressing BPA in their latest interviews. But then they're kicking the QB can down the road ANOTHER year. No matter who you take, the QB is a developmental position. Start the development this year.I feel like the Vikings need to rebuild rather than reload. This QB inflation makes it a buyer market for the other positions. Yep, Wade Phillips is now the DC in Houston. He likes his front 7 guys, especially OLBs. He like to put pressure on the QB. Getting guys who can do that will go a long way to improving that D. Wade has been around long enough and is flexible enough in his schemes, to find ways to get a potentially elite passrusher like Bowers or Quinn well involved.I wouldn't be surprised to see Houston pass on Prince for a guy like Cameron Jordan or Aldon Smith, not sure about Bowers though. While the corners aren't good by any measure of the term, it's Houston's safeties that are their biggest problem. No one warrants a pick that high and I don't think they would draft Prince with the idea of converting him. They have said they aren't inclined to convert Glover Quinn (could be a smokescreen) or give up on Kareem Jackson after one year either. Wade Phillips also has a history of getting by with a below average secondary and focusing on the defensive front 7.As for Dunta Ronbinson, Atlanta can have him and his 2nd highest cornerback salary in the league. We certainly could have used him, but not at that price. That kind of money isn't worth a solid against the run corner with below average pass coverage skills.
Hate it. Not the best player available, and does not fill a need. I don't agree with your writeup one bit. With the 7th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers select:
Julio Jones, WR, Alabama
For me this pick came down to Jones, Quinn, or Amukamara. After watching the niners of the 80s and 90s, we niner fans are starving for some good offense. And despite experts saying that this team's needs are at CB and OLB, the defense wouldn't be too shabby if the offense could sustain more drives. I really like Quinn, he's a natural when it comes to rushing the passer, but he's just a little too big to play as a OLB in a 3-4 and has never had to drop in coverage much.
Jones is the perfect WCO receiver. Great YAC ability, runs with violence, short area burst and acceleration, fantastic run blocker, not to mention top end speed as well. If he were matched up against Amukamara, I see Jones getting the best of him most of the time. Does he have the drops? Yes, but another guy named Owens was notorious for dropping easy passes and he's made quite a name for himself. In fact I see many similarities in their game. What about Michael Crabtree? I'm not enamored with crabtree's physical prowess. He has good moves and can get open, but at the end of the day I don't see him TAKING OVER a game in the NFL. His was also signed for fairly cheap considering he was a top 10 pick. with Harbaugh bringing a physical brand of the WCO back into the bay area (not unlike Mariucci's offense), Julio Jones is a perfect fit.
I completely agree with this, reminds me of Flacco's draft situation. Meaning, he's supposed to go later but I can easily see a team like the Vikings or 49ers maneuvering to get him. Assuming of course that they can find a trade partner. The Locker pick might be a BIT early (maybe), but in real life he will NOT be there with their 2nd pick and he is still a better talent with more upside than any other QB taken at this point and his abilities have started to reveal themselves through the post season workouts. The only other position I considered for the Vikes was d-end.
No. 8: Ravens to Jaguars. Baltimore traded its first-round selection to Jacksonville for Jacksonville's first-round selection, two third-round selections, and fourth-round selection (No. 26, 71, 89, 125).
No. 18: Texans to Ravens. Houston traded its first-round selection to Baltimore for the first-round and (second) third-round selections Baltimore acquired from Jacksonville, and a sixth-round selection (No. 26, 89, and 173).
I like Jones and IMO he makes sense for a team like the 49ers but with Crabtree and Davis, receivers aren't San Fran's problem and he isn't BPA.Hate it. WR is not a problem spot holding this O back, like you portrayed. If you want to fix the O, reach for a QB, not a WR.
A CB or pass rusher is the biggest D need...and you could have taken a player that was both at the top of the board as well as filling a need with either Prince or Quinn.

Scouts are idealizing Locker and you are buying all the excuses for his lack of accuracy and production. People are using the his 2010 draft ranking as a crutch to support his ranking this year. I think that ranking was dubious. He was given a 3rd round grade by the NFL Draft Advisory Committee and people assume he would have been the top pick. People also predicted that Jimmy Clausen was a top 10 pick. I think it is hard to dislike Locker - good leader and a character guy but his performance does not match the risk at that draft position. But then they're kicking the QB can down the road ANOTHER year. I could have easily gone with Quinn, but I just don't get the Prince hype, see nothing special about him that you wouldn't get with one of the later CBs like Jimmy Smith or Brandon Harris. He looked very average trying to defend Blackmon and I believe top prospects like Jones and Green would abuse him in a similar way. The draftniks all say CB and OLB are needs because Clements could be gone and Lawson's a FA. Honestly were they really impact players last year? Bottom line is the SF offense is horrendous and has been horrendous for awhile now (Has not been better than 23rd overall since 2003, consequently they haven't had a 1000 yd receiver since 2003 either), while the defense has not been that bad (last year they were 13th in yards allowed, and 16th in pts allowed). I realize many of these problems can be attributed to bad quarterback play, but is there a QB that you thought warrants that #7 pick? If so I'd like to hear your justification. At this point in the mock draft QB is better addressed with the 2nd pick or FA/trade.Hate it. Not the best player available, and does not fill a need. I am (and have been) ready with the Rams pick. Just tell me when.I agree I think the good people involved in the Shark Pool Mock Draft has waited long enough. Give the Lions Prince or BPA and move on to next.
I'll give him until 3:15pm CST, even if I assumed he fell asleep at 730 this morning, he should be up. Then if there are no objections, we'll give Detroit Amukamara and move on.Blackjack, feel free to send in your pick once you see the list updated.I am (and have been) ready with the Rams pick. already taken.Patriots drafter -> give a long look at Tyron Smith.TIA.
I like the player & like that he fills a need. Pretty quick for a guy his size, big enough he could possibly rotate inside. Well done. With the 14th overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft the St. Louis Rams select CAMERON JORDAN DE CALIFORNIA
James Hall had a very good year for the Rams with 10.5 sacks but I think he benifitted from Chris Long alot to achieve those numbers.
Jordan will be a nice fit to the young defense for years to come. He is better against the run than rushing the passer which is something Rams could use help with but he does posses skills to rush the passer. Cameron's stock has been improving quickly since the senior bowl. Cameron is a very good tackler who can get in the backfield quickly due to using his hands so well. He is a Spags type guy, big, disciplined and fundamentally sound with a go go go motor.
Some Rams fans might want hometown product Aldon Smith right here and while tempted Aldon is still a project. The Rams are actually in a descent spot right now in the inferior NFC West but they cant afford quite yet to take high picks based on upside plus Aldon will be better used in a 3-4 defense at the next level. Of course we would have loved for Julio to fall to us but with Avery coming back along with Clayton to go with Darnario Alexander I think our wr corp is better than most people give us credit for.
I think most realistic Rams fans are looking at this pick being DE. It is a need for our team, it might not be sexy but it is a need. I think a corner could be a need or a safety but I didn't like what was available. DT could be an option also but I like the future of our franchise with the bookend tackles on the right and left side of the offense and of the defense.
This pick is golden, much neeeded. I see Pouncey as the guy least likely to flop in this draft. Nice!1.15 Miami Dolphins - Mike Pouncey, OL, Florida
Not too into any of the QBs in this year's draft (or in free agency either for that matter), so the plan is to put some more pieces around Chad Henne and hope he takes a big step forward this year. Pouncey will fit nicely into our offensive line and should have an impact right away. Miami's owner has already shown a willingness to spend some money and likes to make a splash in free agency. I fully expect him to go strong after DeAngelo Williams and probably a WR (Malcom Floyd) and TE (Kevin Boss) in free agency -- whenever that starts.
I'm not high on Ingram, who most have Miami taking, and there are no DBs worthy of the 15th pick, so S will have to be addressed later...
Another one of this nice class of DEs off the board. Nice to see a string of not too sexy or clever but sensible picks. Good job. With the 16th overall pick, in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select:
Aldon Smith, DE, Missouri
No need to get too clever here. There are many team needs that could be addressed in this draft for Jacksonville. Defensive secondary is the top priority, but this is a weak safety draft. The top two corners have been selected, and reaching for a CB is not something we're looking at. David Garrard is not the long term answer under center, but isn't a big enough concern to reach for a QB versus drafting for defensive need. WR is not an option with Green/Jones off the board.
Da'Quan Bowers answered concerns about his knee injury by having a terrible pro day at the beginning of the month. JJ Watt was attractive to us, but in the end we felt that Aldon Smith's "kearse like" athleticism was a nice fit for this team. One of the fastest and most athletic ends in the draft, he can be a multi scheme/package piece. He will have to bulk up some in order to play 4-3 end at the pro level, but it's easier to add muscle to a frame than it is to come by the kind of speed, quickness, and instinct that Smith possesses. Despite his lean body composition he still plays well against the run. He's likely to see some time immediately, and has the upside to develop into a dominant, play making end at the pro level.
Oops, missed that. In that case I'm hoping for a Watts/Kerrigan pick.already taken.Patriots drafter -> give a long look at Tyron Smith.TIA.

I can't see them going RB first round... They do have a lot of team needs, both lines and the whole defense...I've said in other posts that NE had one of the most productive running games in the league with their motley crew. I expect them to address RB, but probably where the value is, 2nd and 3rd round. What i hear is that they like leshoure, and they're warming to ingram. I bet if he falls out of the first they make a move on him.Tempted by Ingram, I won't lie. But I know that won't happen.Seems like the best move. We are desperate for pass rush.Oops, missed that.
