Shark Pool Mock Draft 2011 - 4 Rounds (2 Viewers)

4.04 Bengals select Daniel Thomas - RB - Kansas State

Bernard Scott is the only running back that isn't a free agent and Cincinnati had Thomas in for a workout.

Good value and definitely fills a need. Had considered him for the niners' pick in the 4th.

Sorry, I was not sure if this was continuing or not.

With the 5th pick in the 4th round, the Cleveland Browns select:

Oregon LB Casey Matthews.

While not as athletic as his brother Clay, he definitely has the bloodlines and football instincts necessary to succeed at the NFL level. I was also impressed with his performance in the national championship game, where he looked like the best player on that defense at times.

I'l give some grades pick by pick

1.Carolina Panthers (Donsmith753) - A.J. Green (WR, Georgia) C I don't think a reciever can be taken in the top spot.

2.Denver Broncos (BusMan) - Marcell Dareus (DT, Alabama)B+ Dareus is a very good player, but I don't think he changes an entire defense.

3.Buffalo Bills (Mr. Peterson)
 - Cam Newton (QB, Auburn) B+ A potential franchise quarterback in a good situation for him. But the risks prevent an A.

4.Cincinnati Bengals (comet909) - Patrick Peterson (CB, LSU) B Great player, but I'm not sure you can pass up Gabbert, unless you want Jordan Palmer starting.

5.Arizona Cardinals (Andy Dufresne) - Von Miller (LB, Texas A&M) B Again another great player, but Gabbert is hard to pass up here.

6.Tennessee Titans (shader) - Blaine Gabbert (QB, Missouri) A Good value for the titans who desperatly need a QB.

7.San Francisco 49ers (chinawildman) - Julio Jones (WR, Alabama)
B Hmmmm. Interesting pick, but I just don't think it is a position of need.

8.Cleveland Browns (gandalas) - Nick Fairley (DT, Auburn) A- I like the value here. Fairly remindes me of Haynesworth in a lot of ways, before he got to DC.

9.Dallas Cowboys (asn4play) - Tyron Smith (OT, USC) B+ Very solid pick. I would hope that Smith plays on the left and Free moves back to the right.

10.Washington Redskins (matttyl) - Robert Quinn (DE, North Carolina) A Great pick here, with Jones off the board this was by far the best player for the skins.

11.Houston Texans (Yellow Line is Unoffcial) - Da'Quan Bowers (DE, Clemson)C I like Bowers, but I dont think you can pass up Prince. And he dosnt fit great here.

12.Minnesota Vikings (Andy Dufresne) - Jake Locker (QB, Washington) C+ Vikes need a quarterback, but a trade down would have been nice here, then get a QB later.

13.Detroit Lions (eakfootball)
 - Prince Amukamara (CB, Nebraska) A Best player availible fills a need. But I may be a bit biased.

14.St. Louis Rams (Blackjack)
 - Cameron Jordan (DE, California) B+ I would have taken Liuget, but I can't argue against Jordan.

15.Miami Dolphins (Dolfan) - Mike Pouncey (OL, Florida) C+ It is a reach, but if they let him go he would not have made it past 20. I think if he is not a Pouncey he would be a 2nd round pick.

16.Jacksonville Jaguars (CompetitiveEdgeFootball)
 - Aldon Smith (DE, Missouri)B Decent pick, but I think Kerrigan is a much better fit in Jacksonville.

17.New England Patriots (Tackling Dummies) - J. J. Watt (DE, Wisconsin) A- Exactly what the pats need.

18.San Diego Chargers ( KeeferMan)
 - Anthony Castanzo (OT, Boston College) A Great pick since Jordan and Watt are gone.

19.New York Giants (J Andersson) - Gabe Carimi (OT, Wisconsin) B I think Solder would have been better here since Carimi is strickly a RT. But I like the pick.

20.Tampa Bay Buccaneers(Kirby) - Ryan Kerrigan (DE, Purdue) A Love this pick. Good value at a position of need.

21.Kansas City Chiefs ( KCitons) - Phil Taylor (NT, Baylor) C I don't like Taylor and it is a reach. But the shortage of NTs prevents a C- or D+.

22.Indianapolis Colts (Cipherchris) - Corey Liuget (DT, Illinois) A+ I hate the colts but this is tremendous value. Solder is not a fit for the colts since he will need time to develop and Manning's window is closing.

23.Philadelphia Eagles (JetMaxx) - Nate Solder (OT, Colorado) B High upside player in a position of need. But Jimmy Smith is hard to pass up here.

24.New Orleans Saints (adrenaline )
 - Muhammad Wilkerson (DL, Temple) A- Nice value at 26. Wilkerson is a beast, but I would have liked an end here.

25.Seattle Seahawks (bleachercreacher) - Jimmy Smith (CB, Colorado) A- Nice risk/reward pick. I don't think Smith falls here in the real draft.

26.Baltimore Ravens (gerome ) - Derrick Sherrod (OT, Mississippi State) C+
I'm not a big fan of Sherrod, and I think a corner or reciever would fill more need.

27.Atlanta Falcons (No Way Jose)
 - Mark Ingram (RB, Alabama)
B I like this pick, but an end or wide out would have been helpful. Quality backs are always availible in the mid rounds.

28.New England Patriots (Tackling Dummies)
 - Benjamin Ijalana (OT, Villanova) B- As a pats fan I would have prefered Danny Watkins at guard here.

29.Chicago Bears (Grimace59) - Akeem Ayers (OLB, UCLA) D+ With huge DT and corner needs I don't think a linebacker is a good pick here at all. Plus I prefer Martez Wilson and Mason Foster to Ayers.

30.San Diego Chargers ( KeeferMan) - Adrian Clayborn (DE, Iowa) B+ Decent pick, but he fits better in a 4-3. I don't know why the Jets did'nt stay to get Jabaal Sheard.

31.Pittsburgh Steelers (BigSteelThrill) - Brandon Harris (CB, Miami) B I like that they took a corner, but Watkins would have looked real good here.

32.Green Bay Packers (fatkid) - Justin Houston (OLB, Georgia) C+ I like the position but not they player. Sheard and Brooks Reed would have been better.

I regretted this pick right after I made it. Oline is the biggest need, and I got stuck when all of the top Oline prospects along with the DTackle prospects were taken. I should have gone Marvin Austin, but at the time I was reading out dated info that had Austin as a mid to late 2nd round prospect. Austin would and should have been my pick. I love Wilson, but the bears would be looking a Strong LB, and Wilson fits the Middle/Weakside LB. They won't be looking to fill Urlacher or Briggs spots for another year or two.I agree with the grade and was not happy with my pick right after I made it. Most likely should have traded back or taken Marvin Austin.

Mmmkay. I put out my draft grades and got a few comments so I feel I can make one comment on this set of grades of first round picks. The pick of A.J. Green earns the second lowest grade of the first round by this grader and I don't believe that Eakfootball truly believes that Green is the second worst pick of the first round. I certainly don't so I can't agree with the grade given to Carolina for selecting A.J. Green with the first pick.

I gave the Panthers an A for the pick based on the talent acquired but pointed out that only two WRs have been taken #1 so I doubt that Green would go there but I graded on the value of the player acquired.

I have already provided my grades for the first three rounds and explained my grades. I won't come down hard on Eak but I stand by how I graded the first three rounds.

With pick 4.07, the Philadelphia Eagles select Noel Devine, RB, WVU

Dynamic playmaker that likely wouldn't be there for my next pick. Some question marks surround him but I love him the 4th round. Adds more speed to the fastest offense in the NFL.

4.09 - Mark Herzlich, OLB Boston College

His play improved down the stretch in 2010 proving his recovery from cancer isn't going to hold him back. Ben Leber is likely gone in free agency.

While I like Green I just don't think that he is Larry Fitzgerald or Calvin Johnson type wide reciever. Even though Larry has been arguably the best wideout in the league since he was drafted, I think we all agree the cards would be better off with Phillip Rivers or Ben Roethlisburger. A.J. Green will give a franchise 2 or 3 extra wins a year, and Marcell Dareus will boast the win total by 1 or 2.While if Blaine Gabbert becomes a franchise quarterback he will add 6 to 8 extra wins a year and make the Panthers a contender. Even if Gabbert has a 20% bust chance, I think its a risk you have to take. You can't sit around and wait to get Andrew Luck because the front office and coaching staff will not have that in mind since they may lose their jobs if they pick #1 again. Say the Panthers do pass up Gabbert (or Newton who is looking more and more like the pick) and take an A.J. Green, Patrick Peterson, or Marcell Dareus, they are a good enough team to end up picking in the 5-10 range and not have a shot at a franchise quarterback. Jimmy Clausen is alright, but I don't think you will ever get past 7-9 with him unless he has a spectacular team around him.

4.10 Detroit selects Delone Carter-RB-Syracuse

Nice complement to Best and Smith, gives them a power back with good feet and quickness.

The San Francisco 49ers select:

Jordan Todman, RB UConn

Frank Gore is in the final year of his contract and it remains unknown whether the niners are going to extend him, especially coming off a broken hip. Gore is no spring chicken anymore at 28 so it's time for the niners to start looking for other options at RB. They've got Dixon, but right now he's somewhat of an enigma because he's a large power back who runs like a smaller back. I really wanted Kendall Hunter but after trading away the 3rd rounders for Mallett I knew he would no longer be an option. Todman is also a complementary type of back, but doesn't have the compactness of Hunter. I envision being used in a McCluster type of role. He does have experience at UConn lining up at WR on occasion, as well as experience in the return game. These are all needs with the niners who have a bunch of bruisers but lack team speed.

I believe this will be an offensive draft for the niners, and Harbaugh will want weapons at his disposal in his first year. With Jones, Mallett, and Todman they've got serious potential for playmakers at all the skill positions.

If that explains why you gave A.J. Green pick a C then I find it difficult to use that same logic to explain why you gave Julio Jones a full letter grade higher a few picks later.

With their fourth round pick the New York Giants pick Phil Simms just to keep him out of the National media spotlight (Ryan Mallett is a godsend and if he's not a top 15 pick Simms will quit - god forbid)!

On a serious note let's up the pace a bit. This is getting extremely slow...

Agreed, can someone just make a pick for the Titans. I've already been asked to pick for the cowboys.

4.14 Miami Dolphins - Lance Kendricks, TE, Wisconsin

Dolfan's off-season plan:

Draft:

Mike Pouncey, OL

Taiwan Jones, RB

Lance Kendricks, TE

Major Free Agency Additions:

DeAngelo Williams, RB

James Jones OR Malcom Floyd OR Mike Sims-Walker, WR

Major Free Agency Losses:

Ronnie Brown

Ricky Williams

If you guys want to PM me a list of your top choices, that may speed things up a bit. I'm not sure I can go 5 rounds... plus there's a chance we may not even finish the draft before the real draft.

STL Rams 4th round pick Marcus Cannon TCU RG

3 year starter and this guy is huge. Should be able to move inside and dominate. We took care of the tackles in the last couple of drafts but now we get allittle depth inside. Also has the versitility to move outside if needed (played tackle in college). We need to protect Bradford if he is going to be pass happy in McDaniels offense.

Dude, Cannon went like weeks ago... 3 strikes and you're out! ;)

I must have just missed that. I didnt think he would go that earlyGive me a minute, sorry

Lawrence Wilson

OLB

UCONN

Obviously not my first choice but we are looking for speed on the outside for blitzing and dropping into coverage.

The knock on Wilson is being undersized. The Rams have pretty good size on the line and at other lb's and cb positions.

He is aggressive which is something we need. If he is already taken (I swear I looked 3 times) draft someone for me
