Shark Thoughts On Josh Morgan? (1 Viewer)

The kid really opened my eyes last week against the Pack. Didn't get to see him last night unfortunately. In a Martz offense, any wide out can end up having value, and Morgan looks like he will, at the very least, be getting some decent playing time on a 49er team without a bonafide #1 WR.

Is he worth a very late round pick? Or is he undrafted waiting for me as a free agent? Or am I wasting my time? Thanks in advance.

Fortunately the rest of us at work have plenty of time to answer things that have already been answered!

Josh Morgan is worth a last round flier, and keep your eye on Shaun Hill.

Like Furrey and McDonald in Detroit the last few years, they will outperform the perceived starters (Battle, Bruce & B Johnson). Good bye week fillers and legit FF WR3 candidates.

see Mark Boerigter, 2003..aka, preseason 'hype guy' who flops in reg season.hard to get excited about the SF offense wasting the Chicago defense last night, and vice versa..

one thing I'll admit, I've been very anti Frank Gore..but the dude looks superb thus far..now,that could just be due to the fact that SF is playing against subpar defenses, and it is preseason, but he does look good nonetheless..

Ah yes. The search police. Because all I have time to do here at work is run Shark Poll searches. Thanks.
Perhaps he was just offering that as an info source, there is alot of great stuff in a couple of those. From my own impression, he has the size to be a good receiver, and has reportedly picked up the offense better than Johnson, and really impressed the coaching staff. They keep saying he's overtaking Johnson, and with Johnson not playing still, it looks like he's a good bet to start week 1 . Those Martz offenses always produce someone good, hard to guess, but he's got a solid shot.

Why? You're telling me that was expected? Everyone thought the Bears D would suffocate the Niners, did they not? I'm certainly not "excited" but it was certainly an eye opener for both teams.

Hill looked to be more significant yesterday, especially in the 1st half.
Hill is definitly viable and people may be sleeping more about his potential than Morgans. I had Hill rated very highly out of the outstanding rookie WR class of 2007. Now in his 2nd season in a Martz offense he definitly could break out this year.

I like Hill & Morgan in dynasty leagues for sure.

Here's what we know about SF:

Bruce knows the offense is an older vet, and should be one of the top 2 WR just from knowing everything. He's older, and may decline sharply. I like Bruce as a value vet late for bye week coverage.

It's a change for everyone else and while Johnson & Battle in theory were ahead of the other guys on the depth chart due to talent and/or previous production, they haven't played much, if at all. Hill & Morgan have looked pretty good, and since the WR3 in this offense often comes out of nowhere, it's very reasonable to think one of them will be that.

With O'Sullivan looking adequate as the starter for now, picking one of Hill/Morgan late has a chance to be a nice boom pick. I don't think either of these guys outproduce Bruce early on, simply due to offense knowledge, but we'll see.

I like him because he has opportunity and the sky is the limit. He is a tremendous talent but apparently had enough emotional problems in college to knock him way down to a 6th round NFL draft pick. He apparently did things like dog it when the ball isn't being thrown to him in college. Based on talent alone he is much better than a 6th pick. That could mean his rookie year he focuses and does great, and then in year 2 he grows restless and becomes a locker room cancer. Possible future WR prima donna here if too much success happens too quickly.

I drafted him because, even if he becomes a headcase down the road, its not that uncommon for such a guy to hold things together long enough to do tremendous damage to your fantasy football opponents.

I see one of two things happening.

1. Josh Morgan explodes out of the box and is a fantasy force from day one.

2. If it takes Josh Morgan the more typical 3 year process to learn how to play in the NFL, his emotions will get the better of him and cause him to implode before it ever happens.

The 49ers are in Chicago to play the Bears tonight, so we went ahead and bumped up Coach's X's and O's today! Check out his responses to questions from our fans!

Q: Coach Nolan, with the recent success of WR Josh Morgan, do you plan to use him more in the regular season or will he be used primarily on special teams? Do you think he could have a rookie season like Marques Colston did for the Saints in 2006. – Thanks, Paul Westcott

A: Josh Morgan is a great example as I’ve said of a guy who had an opportunity because of the injuries around him to show what he can do. He has had a chance to showcase himself and work with the first unit. As we’ve already seen in two games, he’s done a very nice job. I believe he’s going to help us. I think he will play a major role this season for us whether he starts or not. I hope he can have a season like Marques Colston. Josh is extremely dedicated to his craft. He takes meticulous notes during his meetings, and he studies hard. It is evident because he does not make mistakes.

Hil's timed speed may be good but his game speed looked slow.
