Shockey is probable for week 2... (1 Viewer)

He looked pretty good on Sunday night and didn't seem to be bothered by his ankle. Now he is questionable for week 2 due to his ankle. This sucks as he is my only TE.

I am going to pick up Desmond Clark and probably start him instead. Clark played very well last week and the Grossman seems to be looking his way often.

*** Joe edit - changed to probable

Giants Wednesday injury practice report Written by: Michael Eisen ¦ 9/13/2006 Source: www.giants.com Tight end Jeremy Shockey and guard Chris Snee both missed practice today with ankle injuries. Shockey is listed as probable, while Snee is listed as questionable. Coughlin said of Shockey: "I think he will get some practice tomorrow, but we will see." Regarding Snee, who missed the second half of the Colts game, he said, "He has made good improvement over the last couple of days. He has a little ways to go, but he has gained some ground on it."Running back Derrick Ward remains sidelined with a broken foot.Practice squad defensive end Adrian Awasom left practice with a knee injury.

It's been bugging him though

Visanthe Shiancoe is quite talented for a receiving TE. I wouldn't be surprised that IF he plays in place of Shockey at some point, that he's a solid FF play that week. Not your average "eh" backup TE, I'd grab him soon if there's another negative sorta news report about Shockey.

As a Giants fan i strongly disagree, i think you could find a better start then shiancoe IF Shockey doesnt go which i think he will. Shiancoe would stay in to block most of the time, maybe get 3 grabs the whole game for 20 yards.

to each his ownPersonally, I think he's got this going for him. Shockey(not a quiet guy) loves him and was cheering him on and working with him all summer. The Giants passing offense goes thru the TE and they'd have to change it up. Now I'm not saying he can get open everytime or as often as Shockey but he'll get looked at by Eli alot. Most of all, he's not the best blocker so why keep him in to do that?I'll look for some links from coaches or players about him

Visanthe Shiancoe will primarily be used in goal-line and two tight ends sets, as he has for the last few seasons. Still young himself, Shiancoe shows great awareness on the field, excels in blocking, and can also catch the ball. He’s basically an unknown on the Giants staff, a man you hear very little about, but a guy who can come in and get the job done when he’s called upon.

I would assume with all the new weapons the Giants have offensively, Shiancoe will continue playing a depleted role on the offence, and basically only be used for blocking and short yardage purposes.

The one thing that stands out about Shiancoe has been his ability to play the role asked of him, and do so without disrupting the team in the locker room or on the field. To the Giants, he’s very valuable, despite being such an unknown name elsewhere.

(calls him a good blocker, I didn't, similar to Mevs)

(summarize bottom)Whimper a backup T would be used as 3rd TE if they needed so with only 2 on roster.

be back in a little bit

Just got off the phone with someone. Giants in the past used a B TE for blocking and a Y TE for receiving primarily or well Shockey's role receiving and blocking. IE The B guy was usually the extra TE put in for blocking. Anyhow, with two TEs they got rid of that B position this year.

Take it for what it's worth.

BBI

Another important cog who the Giants need to step up is Visanthe Shiancoe. Shiancoe lost his second string job last year due to mental mistakes rather than physical ones. Shiancoe is a good run blocker - he just needs to stay more focused and consistent - especially in blitz protection. With opposing defenders likely to concentrate heavily on Burress, Shockey, Toomer, and Barber, there is a real opportunity here for Shiancoe to do some serious damage as a receiver in two-tight end sets. The good news is that Coughlin has singled out Shiancoe for praise in the offseason.

(see here he's point to blocking probs so....difference of opinion there)

Is this guy always hurt?
Banged up? yeah pretty muchHis firey style of play that he showed as a rookie....that put your shoulder down and take on LBers and DBs...has been frowned upon by the G-men and they've gotten him out of that habit pretty much. Some thought that was a big part of him always being banged up. Even after they got that out of him(which I loved and disagree with) he still plays the game with a rough style. He's banged up all the time but other than one year(knee injury?) he's only missed one game a year.

These are his last 6 games in which Shockey didnt play. No more then 3 receptions in a game and no more then 20 yards, so like i said i disagree.

I watched this game and saw some major limping in between plays. I know he had a good day, but I can kinda see this getting worse and worse the more he runs on it. He went into that game last week Probable due to the ankle, I thought it was nothing major....but as the game went on you could see him limping a lot. But he stayed in and played through it. I just hope this isn't one of those games where he leaves early because he's tweaking it with every cut?

You might argue he's fine cause he scored that TD but I saw a lot of limping last week that concerns me?

My only question is, did he look OK, or was he limping around much?

This thread title is factually inaccurate. It would be great if it could be updated to reflect reality.
his status will change over the week, as most do unless seriously hurt. If you started this thread would you want to keep updating it as his status changed or would you just hope people appreciated you posting this news, or both?Serious Q, bound to come up alot as the season wears on for different players.I'm thinking it might be a pain in the neck and don't wanna scare away news posters yet I see the value/usefulness in changing the title....little torn

when talking about his listing on the official injury report, i'd vote for accuracy first

They play the Iggles and that's a pretty important game. I figure he plays with a limp or not.

Good Q. If a thread title is factually wrong, it should be changed as it is misleading. It's a big difference, between probable and questionable. If there's an update on the player's status during the week, posts within the thread could reflect that in a form of an UPDATE post.Just my :2cents:

Maybe others that saw it can back up my emphasis here.....I just didn't like seeing my TE powering through the pain and favoring his ankle in between plays. No one seemed too concerned at the time so if he practices this week, I guess he's good to go?

IIRC He's always hurting his ankles. When something's not serious(sprain) but chronic, it always makes it tough to gauge.
