The music hasn't stopped yet but most of the teams looking for SS help have taken their seats. It's time to vote on the winners and losers.

Funny that Jeter and Tejada both have one vote in each section.

Someone out there feels EXACTLY the opposite of me.

Moving Tejada back to SS will be a BIG mistake for the Giants. Maybe the pitching will overcome his lack of range at SS, but...

I'm willing to be proven wrong on Nishioka but I think there are a bunch of yellow flags surrounding him. The Hardy trade also gave him some more negotiating leverage.

If the Yankees actually had a budget he'd be the worst signing. But they don't so he isn't. He's closer to the best than the worst. FTR I voted Theriot as best value. Uribe as the worst.

The Giants have offered World Series MVP Edgar Renteria a contract for 2011 to be a utility infielder and are waiting to hear back from him, the Chronicle has learned. With Miguel Tejada signed as the No. 1 shortstop, Renteria, 34, would open the season as a backup after being targeted as the top guy entering last season. He went on the DL three times and played just 72 games, hitting .276 with three homers and 22 RBIs. But he was legendary in the postseason and hit .412 with two homers and six RBIs in the World Series while making defensive plays as if he were five years younger.Renteria initially mentioned the Marlins and Cardinals as preferable destinations, and his role obviously is a factor. The Giants are without an experienced backup shortstop, and Renteria would need to be available at other infield positions. The Giants are believed to have offered a salary in the Pat Burrell range, $1 million.

Peralta's the best contract. OK with Barlett and Uribe. Don't like Barmes, Theroit, Hardy, or Tejada. Think I voted for Tejada as the worst contact, but it's probably Hardy since he's pretty meh and they gave up two relievers for him.

hmmm, paying a 32 year old short stop, with a career 618 ops away from one of the most hitter friendly parks in the majors, $4million and giving up a 27 year old pitcher with decent potential and 8+ k/9ip ratios to acquire him........

VOTE BARMES

Say what you will about his inconsistent bat but Hardy is probably the best defender in the group.

By the way Peralta was the best, Theriot was the worst. Jeter shouldn't even be on the list because he technically wasn't a pickup.

The guy's terrible. He's a below avergae fielder with a below average arm. He'll never hit for any kind of power and is not a reliable source of OBP.
I just wanted to take this opportunity to agree with you.
I'm surprised by the love for him in this poll. Maybe it's because he's a better player in fantasy than in real-life, or maybe it's just that scrappy is as scrappy does.

He took a huge leap forward in 2008 and began to look like he would be a solid #2 hitter for a few years. Then his K and BB rate flipped and never recovered. If his OBP isn't north of 350, he isn't a good enough hitter to be in the 2 hole where his ability to go the other way is most useful. He then is an average fielder at best with little value at the plate. He is also a horrible base runner for a player with some speed and his steal rate benefited from some horrible catcher play last year (he should have had at least 3 more CS with the Cubs). Yet, he still holds that scrappy label that makes you think he is a plus fielder and smart base runner. I don't have a clue why anyone would want him.

I'm not going to edit the poll for Brendan Ryan but he can't be as bad offensively as he was in 2010, can he?

I don't want any of these guys. But Theriot is a cheap 1 year deal on a team that's looking to clear out a lot of contracts in the next year or two. So in that regard I think he's a good fit for the franchise. He'll fill the spot for cheap in 2011. Then the Cubbies can go sign some star to a bloated contract that blows up in their face. This team could have Tulowitzki and they wouldn't win their division this year...so they might as well go with the cheapest fill in on the shortest deal.

 maybe.Theriot is a Cardinal now.

Wow. Uhm...it's even in the poll. My brain...uhm...well, I'm not sure what was going on with my thinking. :bag: I'd like to change my vote. I wish I could chalk this one up to booze, but I was stone sober.

I'm happy to take Theriot on the terms mentioned. I can see him working out very well for the Cards. I don't have any statistical data to back that up, just chalk it up to being the type of player that LaRussa usually gets the most out of.

If he can get through to him that (1) he needs to work the count and (2) he doesn't have the green light on the base paths, he should be a decent middle infield option.

I'm not gonna lie, that .307/.387/.357 line from '08 is what has my eye. If he can somewhat replicate that type of on-base success in front of Rasmus/Pujols/Holliday/Berkman, I see a plenty of runs scored in his future.
