Should Hester be owned in Dynasties, even if Ret Yards aren't awar (1 Viewer)

This guy is just so insanely dangerous when he has the ball and in space... I know people say that hes just another Dante hall or Randle El; but NO... he is much much more talented than those guys. I have never seen a player like this that scares the other team so much when he touches the ball.

I know that he was converted to offense this yr and he didn't put up any stats... but think about it, hes really a rookie in those terms; and you just can't convert a guy into a WR overnight and expect big things.. it takes time to learn the position and play book... which is why I think 2008 will be a big year for Hester. As the OC for the Bears, you got to plan on getting this guy the ball atleast 5 times a game along with his Kick Return Duties. Screen passes / long hand offs / slant patterns / deep routes / whatever... this guys is way too talented to just use as a KR / PR and only give him 2 too 3 targets. It just seems like a huge waste too me if this is the future plan for him next yr.

Moose is going to be the tender age of 35 next season, the age where WRs seem to totally breakdown... which means there will be more WR targets to spread already between Berrian (if they bring him back), Bradley (if he is given the #2 spot) and Hester (hopefully given the slot and some #2 work). Now I'm not expecting the next Steve Smith, that would be crazy... but I can't sit here and read that hes just the next Dante Hall.... no, no, no.

Now that FF seasons are winding down, unless you have some super-tight roster limits... I say now is a good time to stash him away for the off-season.. you just don't know whats going to happen.

I tend to agree with VikingDave here. They tried to do the same thing with Dante Hall and it was a miserable failure. IIRC, he came out of school DB, didn't he? There's probably a reason for it.

I took my dynasty flier on Mike Williams, FWIW. Reunited with Chow, if he can't straighten him out, it won't happen.

this thread has been done a couple different times, almost to the exact wording, most everyone said waste of space in the other ones. I agree with them....

Far from a waste of space, imo....From what I have witnessed, Hester looks fine catching the ball and running routes. I think it's simply a matter of time foks, stash away...

Thats like taking a world class sprinter and assuming he'll be a great hurdler. One skill does not make another. There is so much more to being a great WR than speed and ellusiveness. Just as there is so much more to being a returner than great hands and speed. Marvin Harrison is a great WR, would he necessarilly be even a very good returner? Not necessarilly. Hester doesnt have great WR height, doesnt have particularly great hands, and he doesnt run great routs. Rumor has it he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to being coached up (one of the reasons he didnt pan out as a defensive back). He's a very instinctive player, maybe the most instinctively great of this generation. As a returner. Returner instincts and WR instincts are not the same thing.

If you had to use him on offense, he would be better as a RB lining up as a wingback, whatever. You could also split him out, but Hester is much more dangerous when he has the ball before he starts running. And I never believed in the split out decoy anyway- if you want to get the defenses attention the guy has to be in the backfield.

That being said- why do the Bears risk their ONLY weapon (and by far their most effective weapon) sticking a square peg in a round hole? Hester is more valuable than any QB on the Bears roster- would you send Grossman out to cover kick offs? Use the guy in the role he excels at and let him concentrate on that. Dilluding his energy and talent and risking him getting beat up or hurt is a mistake. The Bears offense is god-awful and this team isnt going anywhere, do you really want to slide your best chip into the pot to double down on this team at this point?
