Alright, can't wait to see how this goes. My son plays on a U12 soccer team. Games are here in town but they travel to two tournaments a year.  They take pictures at these tournaments of the players that you can buy for $75 (lol). One of the parents found out that the entire team can be purchased for $300 and apparently did so. Had no idea about this until the email that was just sent. So, she is planning on making DVD copies for everyone but also asked if each family can chip in $30 to help with the cost.

-- We never buy pictures for sports teams or school pictures for any of our kids as we take enough pictures of our own if we need to.

-- I don't need pictures of other people's kids which this will include.

-- There's 10 kids on the team.

What would you do? Kids still play on the same team.

Pay $30, take the pictures, and kindly request that you not be included in future DVD decisions / ask that they clear such transactions with you and the other parents in the future.

The other parent should have worked this out in advance to see how many others would participate, then split the cost that way.  You have no interest in getting the pictures so don't chip in 30 bucks.

Pay the $30. The picture costs generally go to support the league, and help keep registration fees as low as possible, so it's a good donation, if nothing else.

This is probably the right answer. But I don't have kids so I don't have to deal with all that BS. It would take every fiber of my being not to tell them to screw.

These were taken at a tournament... If it's anything like travel softball, these go directly into the photographers pocket and have nothing to do with the "league".

You guys have to coexist for the year, so pay the $30.  But I'd also email her back asking that she check with the rest of the team before spending the money going forward.

I'm sure she meant well, but I hate it when people do this sort of stuff.

:goodposting:  Orrrrrr have your kid autograph his picture and tell them to keep it and that they'll thank you one day.

They should be paying you 30 bucks a pop for photos of your kid instead of asking you for 30 bucks for photos of their ugly brats.

Tell the mom you are only paying $30 for her sex tape DVD and quit the team. Im sure your kid will understand.

If there's an easy way out such as no one mentioning it again if you dont, obviously go that route.  Otherwise make your kid quit.

Pay but take revenge.  Next game, order a post game buffet from some sort of disgusting restaurant.

"Yes jane, it's $30 per family for the the Pakistani spread I've got coming at 2:30"

Keep doing this until she gets the point

This but you definitely have to mention their need to consult with others first.

Was this at least team mom, wife of the coach or someone with genuine faux authority?

Pay, but crinkle the bills into balls with your outraged fists and throw them at the parents and say, "HERE!" and don't take the pictures or DVD.

First post is best post. Make it very clear you are "out" when it comes to this stuff.

I think you should pay the $30, but then again, I'm ok with Torrents...

Technically you can't copy those photos witihout a copyright release from the photographer.

Anyone who tells you to pay the $30 (in effect copying copyrighted material without permission) AND gets all hgih and mighty with the "pirates" in the torrent threads probably doesn't even realize they are being a hypcrite.  :D

if you're leaning towards not paying, I would talk to some of the other parents and see what they're thinking.  if they're against it too I think you can get away with a 'no thanks'.  if they're into the idea of paying I think you probably just pay the $30 (unless money is really tight).  seems like a small amount for most and skipping out on paying could affect your kid, so I'd just bite the bullet and pay.

Seems like it was done with good intentions and if most of the other parents are in agreement you are going to look like a giant #####.

When weighed against some awkward phone calls and $30 as the up-side I don't see how this isn't an easy decision.

Send the pics to family members if you don't want them.  My parents are always looking for updated pics of the kids.

"I'm not interested.  Thanks for asking though"
This. And add I can just take free pics of my kid or a team photo with my phone.

What's next, every player is required to sell $500 worth of Christmas Food Tins so $50 can go toward the end of year party? No thanks.

No one is interested in your rational and reasoned response, guy.

We did this for our girls softball team.  Granted we asked the parents ahead of time.  We had a photographer come out for 2 games. Take tons of pics. Made sure to get every girl and we all got a USB stick with all 1000+ photos. Was well worth the $25

Pay the $30 and don't take anything.

Explain to the parent that you are not comfortable taking a copied DVD without express written permission by the photographer and that you will not participate in any future illegal activities.  You are trying to be a good role model for your children.

Let her know that you never gave her permission to buy photos of your son.  Accuse her of being some sort of pervert.

Tell the mom you have some not so flattering pictures of her from the past 5 years and you compiled them on a DVD that you are going to sell to the team's parents for $30. Either that or you get the DVD for free.
