Should this man be charged with a crime? (1 Viewer)

No ex wife for this guy. :bowtie:

20 years with the same woman, if I ever wonder what else is out there I see videos like this and know I'm going nowhere.
If you have never seen her pee in public she's a keeper.

A classy broad is hard to come by these days.

I figured their menu would have changed in the past 20 years. I remember we would stop there for breakfast once a year on our way to the beach. My grand slam always came with a baseball card.  Still have them too
Pancakes are probably a little stale by now.

The daughter should do some time for standing there watching her father kill the victim and trying to block the camera.

This will be an interesting follow thanks for the updated.  Honestly, i don't see how he is acquitted.  Whether the guy took a swing at him or not he choked him for 10-min.  That goes well beyond self defense.

I agree. Will be interesting to see what he's actually charged with. I'd guess manslaugther, but it could go many different ways.

And for the record, I think "manslaughter" is much more ominous sounding than "murder."

Thompson probably is not a bad guy, but it sounds like he is going to get in some big trouble for this and that is sad. One of the articles said he had some MMA training, which is a recipe for disaster. He knew enough to make the hold  but not enough of how dangerous it was. Sad all the way around.

I don't think this is an adequate defense. A 10 year old can tell you choking someone for an extended period of time is a recipe for death.

I am in no way claiming it as a defense or an excuse!!!

I don't think his intent was to murder the man but it certainly appears that he deserves man slaughter.

He needs a rectal exam given by someone trained enough to know how to insert it, but not enough of how dangerous it is.

And this article makes it sound like the guy who was killed's wife and 3 year old were there begging them to stop. Geez.
They were.  A couple of other people were as well.

Their bonds were set at 100K.  They turned themselves in just before the 10PM news.

I've read two articles and the charge I saw was "murder" in both. So this is being tried on the husband and wife as 2nd degree murder, can't imagine 1st?

If that is the case, I would assume the prosecutor is doing that in hopes of copping a manslaughter plea, with 15-20 years for the husband and 3-5 for the wife, I think that would be fair.

The wife was a police woman.  3-5 seems light for someone that is supposed to be protecting the public.  15-20 for the husband.  10-15 for the wife. IMHO.

The thing that I keep trying to wrap my head around is whether they would have been charged at all without the video.  Seems like once the video surfaced things started moving. Before cell phones and video cameras everywhere, how much #### like this did people get away with?

aggressive charge.   Wonder if they can pull it off.  Manslaughter would have been an easier conviction.

pathetic use of aggression when it wasn't needed though.  I'm fine with whatever they convict these people of, unless some shocking news comes out like the guy pulled a gun or something.

This is exactly why I stopped strangling random Mexicans. Too risky these days.

easy.  Yes.  Manslaughter.  Who cares enough about a dude pissing on a Dennys to choke them?  Screw him.  10-15 years at least.

So now you can be killed for taking a drunken piss outside of Denny's?  That's going to seriously cut into their key market demographic.

I love the mugshot of the guy.  Looks scared poopless.  I just hope they didn't overreach with the murder charges.

10-15 is way too light for me
My uncle in law was killed in a bar fight.  It was manslaughter and the defendant was only given 5 years.  The guy served 3 and was out.  I just dont think manslaughter holds the same weight.

The definitions of 1st and 2nd degree murder vary by state.  Here, first degree murder is Capital Murder.  This case doesn't really qualify.  Hence, a muder charge.

I doubt the DA would have brought the murder charge if she thought she couldn't prove the charge.

The penalty range seems to be five years to life.

You need to unpack this one a bit for us.  Please elaborate.
