I guess one of the benefits of living in a semi-arid climate is not having to deal with a whole lot of mosquitoes. I think I get about one or two bites per summer.

Put me down for eradicating mosquitos, ticks, and stink bugs. No way the negative impact outweighs the positive.

Also, shoot the person that brought stink bugs over from Asia.

The real key would be to get some kind of injection that makes our blood I appealing to the Mosquitos. That seems easier although more dangerous for humans, but we put all kinds of crazy things in our body, why not mosquito repellent.
Well there are anti-malaria medicines out there but the side effects are hell. The only good option is high-powered anti-biotics, but that leads to a whole new group of problems with organisms developing resistance to antibodies.
Antibiotics wouldn't touch malaria. Plasmodium vivax is a protozoan.

What's the one that gives you the gnarly nightmares? I'll never take that again.
Larium or Mefloquine.

I've never had an adverse reaction to anything until I took that. I'm one of the people trying to get the DoD to recognize it as a hazardous substance and one that should never have been given to troops. I'm convinced there are long-term side effects not only mentally, but physically.
It was Larium.

I only took it for one trip -- I think a few doses prior, if I remember. How much do the troops you're talking about take?

I'd kill off ticks before mosquitos. I know a few folks that have gotten lymes disease and its awful. So hard to defect and treat. Don't know anyone that's had any mosquito issues. I do a lot of hiking as well with the dogs so we're very susceptible.

I'm thinking you guys that are against it are in areas where there are few or no mosquitoes, like OPM. I thought about this some more and I wonder if the environmental impact might actually be improved a bit, because they wouldn't have to roll around towns with the giant mosquito fogger trucks. I know for a fact that spray kills off lightning bugs and no telling what else. I'll trade mosquitoes for lightning bugs all day long.

Reminds me of my favorite Far Side comic. Everyone is getting bitten because they made a mistake and bought "On" instead of "Off".

We have plenty of mosquitoes where I live, they just don't bother me that much.

If they were killing people in the area, I would vote to exterminate them with prejudice though.
