Should White defendants be punished more harshly to create racial equality in the justice system? (1 Viewer)

WhAt is the percentage of blacks in leadership positions?
A downfall with me is I listen to a lot of podcasts, so it's hard to link after the fact.   IF I remember right, it was something really low like 2 in meaningful positions for the one main company they were evaluating.    I think this also ties into the stats of really low % of black CEOs too and using a similar concept.    I will try to dig and remember what podcast this was.

Do you believe that there are a significant number of white in the justice system that have racial animus towards blacks?

I don't want to say there are a significant number of people in the justice system that have racial bias and I don't want to say that the bias is limited to just white people.  I haven't done any studies, I am speculating, but there is at least anecdotal evidence that if you did look at sentencing based on race for the same charges you find that minority defendants saw a longer sentences than their white counterpart.  Part of that could be due to economics or part due to racial bias.

Hard to imagine anyone thinks the answer to yes.

The solution is pretty simple.  The time matches the crime no matter who you are.

that wouldn't be equality if we did that

only treating everyone equally and fairly = treating equally and fairly

anytime one color of skin, race, sex, gender, religion etc is targeted to benefit or disadvantaged .... that's racism/sexism/discrimination

if whites are getting unfair treatment - that's racism too

I don't think white people should be punished more harshly.

It's my view that our justice system is heavy-handed in doling out punishment.  Just because black people bear the brunt of it does not mean I want white people treated equally unjust.
It seems to me,especially the last several years, that the system is letting criminals off with no/small bail, less prosecutions and continued probations for 3,4,5x repeat offenders. Just my perception.

Except that some have the means to plead out to lower level charges or negotiate lighter sentences.  Oh and if there's a disparity in the frequency of getting stopped on probable cause, that would lead to more interactions with the justice system, and more likely consequential outcomes.

Read that anecdote about the woman with the large poodle and driving at night and how often she got pulled over.  Then ask any of your black friends how often they've gotten pulled over vs. your white friends.

And faces up to 30 years in prison.

According to the law, it is 3 to 15 years, with an additional 15 years probation.  It is heartwarming to see the left getting upset over the harsh gun possession charges they created.
