Shouldn't we know about Priest soon? (1 Viewer)

Have I missed anything or wasn't the last we heard that we would know for sure "soon"? That was weeks ago. With camps opening, will we know by July 31st, or could this drag on beyond the week?

Agreed. Priest had a zero percent chance of playing again since he suffered his injury. He had waning enthusiasm for the past two seasons, and now that he's been given the ultimatum that if he plays again, he may permanently damage his rotary functions via his spine/neck, I seriously, seriously doubt there was even a consideration by him to come back unless the organization heavily lobbied his return, which they didn't.

That was a long sentence.

Priest needs to find a doctor somewhere that will clear him to play. At this point, even Dr. Nick from The Simpsons won't do it.

I think there is a good chance that LJ's backup is not on the Chief roster
Any guesses who it might be?
if so, i think it will be a rb release during cutdowns. there will be good talent available then.
just a couple of names that come to mind...Marcel Shipp is in a contract year, why lose him with no compensation...Maybe the chiefs would give up a late round pick for him

Duckett?

Staley if hayes blows the coaches away in preseason?

Bennett?

These are just a few RB's i think that could be had for a decent price

I'm ridin' that bus too. If you've gotta put your roster spots on the line, I'd rather have a Michael Pittman type than a Brown/who knows type.When/if someone else surfaces, I'll spring but why waste a spot on Dee Brown?

Some of us have already drafted in several leagues, and we didn't have the luxury of waiting to see what will happen.

So you're saying the water boy will become the backup? wtf?

Doesn't matter who it is, I doubt I'll be drafting them. Yeah they have a great OL blah blah - but even if Holmes comes back he won't last, and whoever the replacement is will be a huge huge drop in talent.

As someone who traded away Priest last season for a conditional pick, I hope he waits to make any decision. If he retires before August 14th I only get an 11th round pick. If he's still in the NFL at that point I get a 6th.

Howard probably has fetched a few gatorades for the vets (or he soon will).

"Well if it isn't my old friend, Mr. McGregg, with a leg for an arm and an arm for a leg!"my vote goes to Q.

If LJ goes down it is doubtful that any back will get more than 50% of the carries. None of the players mentioned can shoulder the load like LJ. Three or four guys would replace him if he got hurt. Dee will get most of the carries but would be unplayable because you never know which RB would get hot during a game. Q Griffen and Robert Holcomb are the other backups.

It's been my belief for a while that Holmes will not return. It's also been my belief that Dee Brown is not the answer -- not at all.

I'm hoping that Carl Peterson can put a nice touch to a solid offseason by trading for a solid, but not spectacular, backup. Someone who can gain just 4 yards per carry and pickup the blitz.

Today's Kansas City Star;

The Chiefs are moving on without Priest Holmes, arranging a trade with New Orleans to acquire Bennett, a former first-rounder who’ll back up Larry Johnson. Bennett arrived on Wednesday afternoon in River Falls, shook hands with coach Herm Edwards, and headed off to a physical.

What happened a few days before that in another medical exam may have clinched the deal. Holmes was evaluated by spinal specialist Robert Watkins late last week and again wasn’t cleared for contact. Back in San Antonio on Wednesday, Holmes’ trainer, who’s helped him come back from hip and knee injuries, said he hasn’t seen Holmes in two weeks.

“I’m in limbo,” Bremond “Bay Bay” McClinton said. “I’ve been trying to call him, but he hasn’t called me back. He must be doing it on his own, because I haven’t seen him.”

Peterson said that nothing should be read into the fact Holmes isn’t in River Falls with the team or that Holmes still isn’t medically sound to play more than nine months after suffering a helmet-to-helmet collision in San Diego.

He said tests showed Holmes’ condition is improving.

“This is not indicative that Priest is finished with the Kansas City Chiefs,” Peterson said. “I’ve had conversations with him, and right now he’s fine with where he is. But the doctors still haven’t given him a release to have contact, so we’re going to go with the doctors. We have time regarding that, and so does he.

“There are still options open for Priest. I’ve said it a hundred times: I wouldn’t count the man out. People did before, and they were wrong. And I don’t know what the final outcome of this will be.”
