I made a handful of hard cuts of artists I feel I've talked about before too much in our nerd threads, but I didn't see on your list. They will probably be my last 5 out if we list those. I had Savages, Natalie Merchant, Soul Asylum, Primus, and HAIM on the list, but got the last second axe. Are these artists you looked into but didn't like? For example, you have 10,000 Maniac and Oysterhead so I was surprised by no Merchant and Primus.
Not necessarily, but in some cases I just haven't had the right song hit me at the right moment. I've had a couple Primus songs on my list forever, but just haven't felt the need to post yet.
Not sure if that makes sense. This isn't about amassing quantity, I could easily get to 5000 without much effort. But for those you listed, I'm sure they'll be on the list, it's just a matter of when.
Yeah, that makes perfect sense. That eases the "stress" a bit too. My thought was if it's not on the list and a bigger name (if you consider Primus as such), then you've listened and not liked.
Your list was just some fun FFA shtick for a theme, but we do seem to have similar leans to music (hell, your Journey selection was from the debut...). It's not the only reason I did it, but I do think you will like most of the playlist based on that and if you or anybody hears anything new to them that they like, extra bonus. Most of the top 15-20 artists I already have a playlist in some form of completion or while trying to decide a song I added them to be dug into farther.
A lot of what your list frustratingly knocked out for me were female bands/grrrl riot type stuff. All high on my initial ideas list were: Amiee Mann, The Beths, Boygenius, Hop Along, Ratboys, Rilo Kiley, Scrawl (probably most "mad" about this one), and Sleater-Kinney. This is the biggest % of the playlist with 7-8 tunes swimming in these circles.
The other big % ended up being 70s rock/metal or newer bands that sound like 70s rock/metal. Here I think there is 6-7 like this. There was enough bands like Sabbath, Uriah Heep, Journey, Little Feat, Hawkwind, Metallica, Iron Maiden etc.. that I felt I might get you on something here and I was on the right track.
There are 4 hip hop artists on here, but I don't listen to a lot of the genre and I have very strong feelings about these so wtf. Other than that there are a couple random 90s bands, a couple reggae/dub artists, and a general scattershot of stuff after that. Again, nothing on there were I can't recommend multiple albums from the artist if people like the song.
