Shuke's 1400 favorite songs by 1400 different artists. (2 Viewers)

love the White Stripes.  I mean I love them.

This song choice.
I am huge Jack White fan - really huge - even more a than my love of Mark Lanegan.

This is not my fav song, but - I do love it.

The lyrics really help it imo:

There's no home for you here girl, go away
There's no home for you here
There's no home for you here girl, go away
There's no home for you here

I'd like to think that all of this constant interaction
Is just the kind to make you drive yourself away
Each simple gesture done by me is counteracted
And leaves me standing here with nothing else to say

Completely baffled by a backward indication
That an inspired word will come across your tongue
Hands moving upward to propel the situation
Have simply halted and now the conversation's done

There's no home for you here girl, go away
There's no room for you here
There's no home for you here girl, go away
There's no room for you here

I'm only waiting for the proper time to tell you
That it's impossible to get along with you
It's hard to look you in the face when we are talking
So it helps to have a mirror in the room

I've not been really looking forward to the performance
But there's my cue and there's a question on your face
Fortunately I have come across an answer
Which is go away and do not leave a trace

There's no home for you here girl, go away
There's no home for you here
There's no home for you here girl, go away
There's no home for you here

Waking up for breakfast
Burning matches
Talking quickly
Breaking baubles
Throwing garbage
Drinking soda
Looking happy
Taking pictures
So completely stupid
Just go away

There's no home for you here girl, go away
There's no home for you here
There's no home for you here girl, go away
There's no home for you here
There's no home for you here girl, go away
There's no home for you here
There's no home for you here girl, go away

There's no home for you here girl, go away
There's no home for you here
There's no home for you here girl, go away
There's no home for you here
There's no home for you here girl, go away
There's no home for you here
The bold-ed is the best imo.

Really great.

I missed this earlier.

New to me.

Really good - saved.

Guitar wails  -  yes  - wails is the proper word, imo.

Lyrics kill it too:

It's quiet and loud
No one hears it but us
Some starving and proud,
No one chooses but us

You can hide up upstream,
We will trap and scalp you
Change the color of your skin,
But sure as night we'll find you

Never meant to hurt no one,
Only meant to move myself
Yeah, I try and I try,
'til I'm red in the face

We decide what goes inside your head

You see yourself in me
How'd you do that? How'd you?
Beyond your towers wall,
He waits on the killing call
And he tries and he tries,
'til he's red in the face

We decide what goes inside your head

BONUS MATERIAL ALERT

This is not one of my favorite songs.  But seeing the screenshot in the Youtube sidebar while listening to I Will Survive had me intrigued.  Make sure you at least get to the 1:20 mark.

Boney M. - Rasputin
Caught me off guard with this one.  Mrs. O is a big fan.  I’m not, but I commend your bonus material selection.

WOW - one of my very favorites here, that I have net yet heard.

Great add.

The lyrics push it over the top for me:

If pain was a color to paint on you
Your heart would be the color blue
Be a gradient from there Until your body met your hair
Which remained a silver

You are the one they call Jesus Christ
Who didn't know no rock n' roll
Just a mission, and a gun to paint rainbows in Vietnam
And a heart that always told you

There's madness in us all
There's madness in us all

So, who wrote the rules?
Who wrote the rules, who wrote the rules?

They said, every one of you will never try to lend a hand
When the police men don't understand
Boys, all you boys, you think it's so American
Girls, all you girls, yeah, you're so American

He may not be born of this land
But he was born of this world
He was born of all the mothers and the colors of our brothers
And the love that was started

You are the one they call Jesus Christ
Who may not know no rock n' roll
And there may not be a Heaven
Or a place of which to send you
But you know in the end

There's madness in us all
There's madness in us all
There's madness in us all
There's madness in us all

So, who wrote the rules?
Who wrote the rules, who wrote the rules?

They said, every one of you will never try to lend a hand
When the police men don't understand
Boys, all you boys, you think it's so American
Girls, all you girls, yeah, you're so American

There's two eyes for every one of us
But somebody got there first and took them all
There's two eyes for every one of us
But somebody got there first and took them all

Man, oh man, you think it's so American
Man, oh man, yeah, you're so American
Man, oh man, you think it's so American
Man, oh man, yeah, you're so American

There's two eyes for every one of us
But somebody got there first and took them all
There's two eyes for every one of us
But somebody got there first and took them all

651. Mark O'Connor Band - Always Do

I have no idea what genre this is.  It is such a beautiful song.  This is the type of song I love on Sunday mornings, drinking coffee and making breakfast with a nice breeze coming in from the open patio door.
He is a really great musician. I am familiar with him because I love violin/fiddle so much.

Most of the stuff I've listened to has a bluegrass/classical folk feel to it - but I think he has a wider range than that. I'm just not familiar with it.

He is also capable on a few other instruments as well.

Nice find.

621. Lily Pons - M.D.J.B.

Lynagh's was my favorite spot to see live music while I was in grad school at UK, and this was one of my favorite bands that played there semi-regularly.  This might not be my favorite LP song, but it's my favorite from what I could actually find on Youtube.  I have a CD floating around here somewhere but haven't been able to find it.

Also, I hate Dave's voice.
Well, yeah.  He sounds like a yodeling goat.  And then there's the Zubaz/Skidz things he probably is still wearing at this very second.

I have acquaintances that would straight up fight people for "disparaging" DMB....and I have never gotten it, other than they're yooooj into the herb.  Maybe you need to be hyper stoned to enjoy him?   To me, jam bands, in general, usually suck (sorry Phish folks!).  In DMBs case specifically, why would I want to sit around listening to anyone do a 40 minute fiddle solo, regardless of how well they play it?  If your stoned, maybe it makes better sense?

/end DMB rant.  But they suck.

Looks like this southern rock isn't liked much by the FFG.    I'm a fan.  The rest of you are wrong on this one.
not a huge southern rock fan either (Allman Bros mostly excepted and was a huge Lynyrd Skynyrd in HS) - but they have some stuff I like a lot better than this one.

Shuke's list.

I love Phish, but can’t get into DMB.  I don’t think it’s a jam band thing.

I agree and I'm a Jean Luc Ponty fan.
