Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Sidney Rice told WCCO Radio Wednesday night that he is not 100 percent and will need to have his lingering hip injury checked again by Vikings trainers.

Rice said it's more than a hip flexor injury, but he still intends to start in the first regular season game against New Orleans.

He's going to allow Vikings trainers to tell him what he can and can't do during training camp

Rice had a breakout season catching passes from Brett Favre last year. He caught 83 passes for 1,312 yards and eight touchdowns to help the Vikings reach the NFC championship game. He was also named to his first Pro Bowl in his third season in the league.
:lmao:

My advice in Dynasty leagues is to throw out an offer for Bernard Berrian - he has been forgotten and could emerge as a big-time target for Favre if Rice isn't his 2009 self this year. In redraft, I wouldn't take Rice before the 4th in non-PPR, mid-3rd in PPR.

Vikings | Sidney Rice on PUP

Minnesota Vikings WR Sidney Rice (hip) has been placed on the active physically unable to perform list, reports Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. It has been more than six months since Rice injured his hip, and he still has not recovered from the injury. He did not take part in practice Friday, July 30.

I am convinced this only happened because I traded for him this offseason.

Do you guys think this will be a lingering injury and hamper Rice throughout the season? I was really hoping to snag up Rice again this year but this is going to steer me away from him.

He had a slight tear in his labrum. Been rehabbing all offseason. Also, Favre hates Berrian. He'd rather throw to anyone but him. Fact.
 vs. Saints - Berrian had 9 catches for 102 yards. Fact.

The guy to keep an eye on is Jaymar Johnson. He's impressed the last two offseasons and just needs a shot - this could be it.

Rice (hip) was seen running sprints on the side again at Saturday's practice with no noticeable hitch, according to 1500ESPN.com's Tom Pelissero.

So besides those 9 catches he had 46 more all year. I wouldnt say he really feeds Berrian the ball. Rice will be just fine.

BB was hampered by a bad hamstring injury the entire year that really affected him because of his style and yet he still had 92 targets. I could care less about how Brett feels about B.B., because I know for a fact that Chilly loves him and tries to get him involved. Whenever the topic came up last year at Brett's or Chilly's pressers it was always explained that everyone has a ton of repect for Bernard because he's playing through the injury and that when he's healthy/can create seperation again the numbers will return in a big way.Sidney Rice has stated that he has "no doubt in his mind he'll be ready for the opener," but Chilly has made some comments about his lack of conditioning so it remains to be seen just how ready he'll be. (source)

Jaymar Johnson is nothing more then a special teams guy and he may be used to spell Percy in the return game, but do not expect anything out of this cat even if major injuries push him into the starting lineup. Heck I really don't even see him being the number two guy returning punts behind Percy. Johnson had 16 returns for a 8.4 yrd. avg. and a long of 24yds. Not exactly electric. He does have some sick speed, but he lacks the skills and size to be an effective WR in the NFL. Not to mention the long list of players vying for a spot: Greg Lewis, Logan Payne, Taye Biddle, Marquise Hamilton, Marko Mitchell, Ray Small, and Derius Reynaud who was converted from a WR to a RB this offseason.

 That article only has quotes from players. It has nothing from Childress about Rice's hip.
Truth. It's in the previous vikings blog post found HERE.
"He's been doing a lot of running in water on a treadmill but we wanted him to work on his conditioning and his movement on land because that's where we're playing the game," Childress said. "We're not playing it in the water."

From Star Tribune Vikings beat writer Judd Zulgad's twitter

"We are into team drills. Greg Lewis getting lots of work with no Rice or Harvin today.

about 6 hours ago via txt"

from rotoworld.....

Sidney Rice, who opened camp on active/PUP, confirmed Monday that he's still experiencing pain in his injured hip.

"It's still there -- the lingering pain and stuff -- but it's something I'll be able to work through," he promised. Asked the specific nature of the injury, Rice replied "I'm not going into that. It's just a hip (injury)." We're not too worried about the injury yet, but will be if it keeps him out of preseason action.

I just wish he'd have the surgery and start rehab......

Bernard Berrian was top30 from 2006-2008, got injured last year and fell off the map a bit. He could prime for a rebound. Those pimpin guys no one has ever heard of...Berrian is only 29 years old, wake up folks. Actually as you were, thanks.

Berrian only had 95 targets in 2008 which is 3 more than Favre threw to him in 2009...guy was hurt and never got on the same page as Favre IMHO.
