Sinorice Moss - Steve Smith (1 Viewer)

They draft the Miami product in round 2 last year - gets hurt in camp - plays the last 6 games of the season.

So the Giants draft another toy in round two.

What is the difference between these players. They are both fighting for WR3 correct, Is Smith have enough talent to eventually become a number 2 when Toomer hangs it up?

Right now I see - Plax, Shockey, Toomer, Rueben/Jacobs in line for catches.

Short and long term which is the better prospect-

Moss is more like Santana Moss/Steve Smith/Lee Evans. He's a guy that uses speed to get deep. Smith is more of a short route to intermdiate guy that's a better route runner than Si Moss. I do think he becomes the #2 at some point, and could be the 4th option this year.

As JM above said. Moss is a 'shrimp/speed' player (5'8" - 185lbs) - Smith is more a #2 (5'11" - 199lbs).

What we have are the heirs to Burress and Toomer respectively. Looks like the wheels will have fallen off Toomer's wagon before Burress rides (is ridden) out of town...

A 5'8"/185 guy is the "heir apparent" to a 6'5"/232 guy? Why, because they both have speed?I do think Smith will move into Toomer's role, possibly as early as this year depending on how strong his knee looks in camp and preseason. Smith is definitely in that mold, and can get the tough catches. Word here is that Smith has looked GREAT so far.Sinorice does seem to be the odd man out this year, but with his speed I think he'll definitely have a role. It won't be as a #1 per se, but even this year (again, depending on Toomer's health) I could see him moving to a nice slot option. Carter is gone now obviously, but Jennings and Tyree are both in the mix too.

true they obviously felt that Smith could be the eventual number 2 guy.

I see Moss' fighting to be a true "toy" at WR3 with Jennings and Tyree.

They always planned on having him (Moss) in the slot. Add that Plaxijerk is so unpredictable in his behavior/attitude, why not draft a capable WR. Add that Toomer is gone real soon and TA DA...you have your answer.

Toomer is almost done and Burress needs a major attitude adjustment if he wants to stick around beyond his current contract. Both Moss and Smith will have the opportunity to replace them as the 2 starters at some point in the next couple of years. Who will be the #1 and who will be the #2 remains to be seen, but they do seem to be good compliments for each other "on paper" and could form a strong duo in the future. Moss had an injury filled rookie year last year, but to think they are giving up on him after that is simply not true. They drafted Smith with an eye towards a near future without Toomer and Burress. These days you need at least 3 quality WRs anyway, especially when you have invested so much in a young QB, so I wouldn't be surprised if they spend yet another first day draft pick on a WR in the next draft or 2. Which year depends on how close to the end Toomer really is and if Burress finally burns all of his bridges this year or gets to stick around for one more chance. The rest of the WRs on the Giants are more like depth and/or special teams players than potential starters.

I agree these guys are in preparation for Toomer retiring and Plax being released. Plax's poor work ethic is getting old and I doubt it'll change. A QB of his at MSU, Ryan Vandyke, told me that Plax was like that in college, you need to ride him to do anything.

I think the two could be a nice combo, A little guy for tight cuts and to go deep and a bigger guy to work the middle. Still not horrible if Moss ends up as a slot/KR and have to find a starter with Smith.

As has already been stated Smith's selection was not about giving up on Moss. It was more a reflection on where Toomer is in his career.

Both have definite #2 potential. Whether either can be a #1 is TBD.

They should both be major upgrades over Tim Carter at WR3 in the interim.

Moss is ideally suited for the slot. They want to use him on screens and crosses underneath and to stretch the field deep. Smith is more of a steady, dependable possession guy.

With regard to Plax too much is made of his attitude. He has a good work ethic and is by no means a cancer. He's been a good teammate in NY and he and Eli have a good relationship.

BTW Tyree is not really "in the mix" as a WR except in emergency situations. He's a special teams ace but that's about it. Jennings I doubt even makes the team this year.

Way to go out on a Limb -Both of you.Steve Smith is a bonified stud, STUD. He will eventually be the Co-number one WR for the Giants. It would not suprise me in the least to see Smith as the second leading WR THIS YEAR in NY. He is a Hines Ward tough Mther-FKER. The only thing that will hold him back is the immitation Manning Quarter Back. ROY candidate.

I agree and do love Smith's potential to reach #2 WR in NY as early as this year and even thrive as a #1 down the road.

This however does not mean they are giving up on Sinorice. I believe he is a great fit for the #3 slot receiver and has potential to reach that #2 status after Smith steps up to #1.

Sinorice Moss is not an NFL starting WR...I've been saying it since he was drafted.
I really have to agree. Good college WR but just falls short in a lot of catagories when you think of how different the NFL is from the NCAA. I think Smith is quite a bit ahead of Moss in being an NFL WR.

Certainly he has a lot to prove but to say he can't be a starter is a bit premature. Ultimately you may be right and he never progresses past being a WR3/ slot guy....But he has all the same tools as his brother. If he can stay on the field I think he ends up surprising some people.

I think Moss is going to be an excellent slot receiver. I also think Steve Smith has a long NFL career ahead of him. Great route runner, great speed, solid hands. Only think he lacks is that 6'4 height. Who cares?
