Should the 49ers grab Sinorice Moss?

By Hugo Guzman ; 01/30/06

Should the San Francisco 49ers forget the mock drafts and the pre-draft hype and select Sinorice Moss? Some draft experts had Santana Moss' little brother going as low as the early third round, but that was before his NFL-caliber performance in the Senior Bowl on Saturday.

So what is the reason for his low draft status? His height. Sinorice was measured at only 5'8" during pre-game workouts. Now let’s take a moment to analyze this logic a bit further. Right now, two of the best and most consistent receivers in the NFL, Marvin Harrison and Steve Smith, are both in the under 5'10". Harrison has his Hall of Fame ticket already stamped and Smith was very close to garnering NFL MVP honors this year. Add to that the fact that Sinorice's older brother also measures 5'8" yet is one of the most explosive and dangerous pass catchers in the league, and you have to start wondering how these "draft experts" got their press credentials.

Based on Sinorice Moss' pedigree and the living proof that short wide receivers can indeed dominate the NFL, the San Francisco 49ers should put at least some thought into drafting Moss. Sometimes, big things come in small packages

The core of Smith, Moss, Woods, Barlow and Gore should have the 49'ers sucking for years to come. This franchise is a disaster.

Probably not a bad idea to target him in the 2nd Round. I don't think Sinorice is a 1st rounder.

There's this little thing the 49ers need more than a short WR. It's calledDEFENSE!And who the blazes is Hugo Guzman writing for anyway? Where did this article come from? This guy's logic is seriously flawed.

That would be dumb. Maybe in the 2nd round but he's not a big enough prospect to be drafted that high. Hopefully we draft Vernon Davis, Deangelo, hawk or trade down and pick up Huff or griffin from UT. Griffin's interception in the senior bowl was probably the best INT i've seen a in a longtime.

You'd like to see more college production from a top ten WR than 57-965-9. Oh wait, that's his combined production the last two years.

Good Senior Bowl week, big brother and '04 end of regulation, game-winning TD against FSU aside, going in the top ten won't happen.

Come on, he had Brock Berlin and Kyle Wright throwing to him.Guy is going to be a s-t-u-d in the pros.

I agree that he could be a good pro (I'm not as sold on him as many). My point is just that he certainly does not deserve first half of Round 1 consideration.

:goodposting: He made his way into 2nd round consideration in the senior bowl.

Combine will probably solidify his status.

A GM should be fired if he takes Si. Moss in the high 1st.

If the 49ers take a 5'8" high/risk [admittedly high reward] receiver with the 7th pick, they should be dismantled. Seriously. This franchise has NEEDS and there are great players that will be available at 7. GREAT players. As cute as the references to Marvin Harrison, Santana Moss and Steve Smith were...a) they are exceptions to the rule, b) Harrison was unquestionably polished and productive at 'Cuse, c) Steve Smith was a 3rd rounder and d) Santana Moss was much more productive while at the 'U [and still went 16th]

Sinorice Moss is a short receiver. Last year, two short receivers were really good. Sinorice Moss' brother is short. Therefore, Sinorice Moss is worth the #7 pick in the NFL draft.Makes sense

DEFENSE!

Actually their run defense was pretty solid and even though their pass defense is bad they need to focus on offense, at least with the high picks. They just spent a lot of money on a QB and need help at OL, RB and WR. The Moss talk is just talk. The unfortunate part for the 49ers is that the top defensive players will be available and they will have to reach for Winston Justice or Lendale White if they want to draft offense.

I'd like to see him make some tougher catches as well as consistently catch the ball, period. He had lapses of concentration this year in games I watched.
