Sirirus NFL Radio: Chris Henry to the Bengals? (1 Viewer)

Sirius NFL Radio (therefore no link) is reporting that the Bengals are interested in resigning Chris Henry.

If true what does this say about Simpson or Caldwell or even Chad Johnson's health?

They would look really silly if they do so...drafting two replacements and I believe Marvin stated when this first surfaced about a month ago that "this ship has sailed".

Someone on this board said it best a few months ago: If the Bengals re-sign Henry, Marvin Lewis officially has Battered Coach Syndrome.

Makes some sense to me - if they are worried about Ocho's durability with the injury and the rooks aren't nearly ready yet to step in or even just provide anything like the 3 WR package Housh, Chad and Henry could give Carson this year. Maybe the thought is to trade Ocho at year's end like he wants, for good value (although I doubt they'll ever get a match for the Redskins offer again). Housh needs a Chad (Henry?) blazer/WR1 or 1A to be productive and kid WRs are usually 3rd year arrivals at best in terms of pulling the top defenders off someone like Housh (who isn't getting any younger his own self). And CH would come cheap for his talent and already knows the system cold.

The thing about Henry remains the thing about Henry ... and if he can't maintain enough to be available, he remains a terrible liability. If they think he can do that, they may be mixing their own kool-aid, but I will assume they know the guy better than I do and think maybe has grown up enough to stay off suspension and out of jail. The guy is as cheap talent as is out there.

Nothing the Bengals does surprises me butthis would be a stupid move, IMO.

They released Henry because they were tired of his off-the-field antics, the damage he did to image of the organization and as an example to the rest of the team. Re-signing him would pretty much undo all of that.

They've given Henry plenty of second chances...

This makes no sense... why would they do it now when he has 4 weeks off?
That part's easy - preseason reps. He's entitled to work out with teams even though he'll miss the first four games. The statement it would make to the rest of the team would be disastrous for the Bengals, which is the main problem.

I really haven't heard much buzz from Bengals camp about the rookie receivers. If this happens, I agree with the OP that it really is a statement on them being dissapointed in the rookies.Really, the main delay in this whole thing might be just waiting to see if one of the rookies shows something that would make this move unnecissary.

Bengals fan :( here and while I'll never say never, I don't see any circumstance where the team welcomes Henry back. He's worn out way too many welcomes. The Browns (Mike & family, not CLE) gave him numerous opportunities and really, really wanted to see him pull his life together only to have their patience exhausted. I won't even go to the lengths Marvin's gone with this kid and he knows his rope is getting shorter and shorter with each season.

Anything in the NFL is possible and as mentioned, hardly anything the Bengal organization does really shocks me, but Henry being re-signed would really push the boundaries of that statement.

The kid is uber talented, but he is an absolute lost cause and has been since his days at WVU.

Very curious about the "source" of this. For some reason it feels like an agent trying to make a market for his client.

Why would they re-sign him after they released him in the first place. They released him for a reason, because he was a jail bird. Even when he did play he had a lot of drops and missed opportunities to make plays.

(Rotoworld) Bengals coach Marvin Lewis denied that the Bengals are interested in bringing back WR Chris Henry.

Analysis: "Don't put any stock in NFL.com," Lewis said. "I don't think (the story) has any legs for any reason." Well it looks like somebody is lying here, but it's possible Henry's agent has gone above Lewis and straight to Bengals management. Still, with Lewis dead set against it, a Henry signing looks unlikely.

Maybe we can bump this now that it's actually true without all the "it will never happen" talk.

What will actually be quite interesting is to see what kind of hammer Sheriff Goodell drops if/when Henry breaks the law again. And I'm not talking about in regards to the hammer on Henry; this would probably be the first instance of the league enforcing it's Guilt by Association policy for teams ...
