As a spinoff from another thread, historically only about half of the previous years play-off teams make it back to the post season. So, which of last years group does not return?

N.Y. Jets

Everyone else makes it. I think both Baltimore and Pittsburgh may be locks to make the playoffs because the AFC North plays the NFC West this year. I'm not going against the Colts, Patriots, or Packers so if I had to pick another it would probably be the Eagles (who I think will make the playoffs).

I just realized what I did... I was trying to just put in six teams and wasn't paying attention to conference.

Philly (inexplicably taking a page from the old school Dan Snyder playbook) and Kansas City (much tougher schedule, will take a step back) are easy. I already had them in the other thread.

Chicago and Seattle are the next 2 I don't think make it.

I'll go with the Jets also.

I think the remaining 7 teams make it, but if I were forced to pick another to miss the playoffs, I'd bet on Indy.

2011 playoff teams:

AFC Division winners: NE, Pitt, Ind, SD

AFC Wildcard: Balt, NYJ

NFC Division winners: Phil, GB, NO, Ariz

NFC Wildcard: NYG, Atl

Leaving out: Chiefs, Bears, Seahawks

If I had to pick 3 more not to make it, I would say: Ind (Hou wins division), Atl (TB wins wildcard), and NYJ (Jax wins wildcard -- least likely, would require Ind meltdown and things breaking right for Jags)

Numbered in order of likelihood. Subject to change in my BS season predictions 5 and 6 were the toughest. Chose the Jets to lose out mainly based on a tougher schedule than Pittsburgh will have. I think the 6-team trend will be sorely tested this year.

If I was a Philly fan I would be probably be ignoring past history too. Overpaying for a cb that's about to turn 30 who's own team didn't try hard to bring him back is a vintage Dan Snyder move, for example.Those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it. I'm betting on history. You can bet on an anomaly occurring instead.
