Slaton changes mind (1 Viewer)

On the one hand, I think he is making a bad choice because he is coming off a down year from 2006, but on the other hand, is he going to lose enough touches to Devine and White, that he will have a down year again next year? I think it is a distinct possibility and I think it would probably hurt him more to have 2 down years rather than just one and I think he was hurt a few times, so maybe it is passable. Either way, he needs a good combine, because this past year wasn't a good one to look back on.

I don't recall any other year where so many players have changed their mind after announcing a decision. Slaton, Manningham, plus a few lesser prospects deciding to go, then changing their minds.

He wouldn't of went much higher next year with Beanie & I'm missing the other marquee name (not to mention he'd lose tons of time to Devine). He's going to be a 2nd-3rd round guy regardless. I think he's much more likely to go 3rd round this year (wouldn't be surprised if he fell later with the depth at RB)

The other marquee guy is Moreno with GA in 2009.

At some point you have to start questioning what these guys that are declaring late are thinking. With the talent that is coming out, these guys are costing themselves some money. Some of these guys who would be 1st or 2nd round picks next year are going to go significantly lower this year.

I posted this in the other thread:

Skills just don't translate way in the NFL. I see it says he is supposed to go in the 2nd. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes 4th or later. Is going to have to find his niche as a kick returner, 3rd down back.

I am sure Slaton was feeling the pressure with Devine behind him as well.

JMO, It's a bad year to be a FA RB. Turner will start somewhere. I don't believe however he'll get the $$ expected.

In the case of Julius Jones. I'm not expecting much in the way of compensation/signing bonus. I think he'll get quite a bit less than someone like Mike Anderson (4 years, $8.1 mil) got 2-3 years ago. And Dominic Rhodes in 2007 (2 years, $7.5 mil; though it'll end up being a 1 year and less than $2.5 mil minus his 4 game suspension paychecks when he's cut this offseason)

And I'd argue he's a superior player to either.

I think Turner will get a pretty nice payday when it's all said and done. For all the talk about the RB depth in this class, only a handful of the players available look like instant starters. So there will definitely be interest in a guy like Turner.
