Sleeper kickers (1 Viewer)

I know, I know...everyone's favourite subject - KICKERS. But they are a part of most leagues, and can play an important role in winning leagues.

Who are some of the sleeper kickers this year who could have seasons like Nick Folk and Mason Crosby had last season? So far, I've got:

Brandon Coutu - if he can unseat Mare, he should put up good numbers with Seattle's offense. Can he unseat Mare?

Taylor Mehlhaff - kicking in a dome and with NO's potent offense, should result in good FF numbers (if he can win the job from Gramatica)

Martin Gramatica - see above.

Matt Prater - apparently has a cannon for a leg and hit a 68 yard FG in practice. Could be a high risk - high reward kind of guy this year.

coutu is one i was looking at as well. Peterson from Mia is another one. Hadnt heard of Prater. I too think the NO kicker would be good. just started working on my kicker research today. lol

does kasay count as a sleeper?

I believe he had a down year, last year, as that whole offense was trainwrecked, but if you think carolina has improved a lot w/delhomme back(?) then he could do pretty well.

plus, they don't really have such a great power running game to punch it in.

he's got a pretty good leg and is accurate, from what I remember from a couple years ago.

have to admit, I'm a little lazy on the kickers.

Who is Peterson? Did Miami sign someone else?

I thought after they cut Feely, the only kicker on their roster was Dan Carpenter, a rookie UDFA. He was the only one that kicked the other night (4/4 FGs, 1/1 XPs).

I'd be shocked if Mehlhaff didn't beat out Grammatica. He's younger, cheaper, and better at kickoffs, plus they used a draft pick on him.

That's how I saw it but Martin has been the one booting kickoffs longer and doing better. I'm sure this is what Payton wanted(competition wise) and it's just time for Taylor to get down to it and start beating Martin. I'm rooting for Taylor

Prater could be $

Watched him kick @ a couple of Broncos training camps and he definitely has a great leg.

Combine Elam's history (typical top 10) w/ a ?'able run game and it looks good. My concern is the below average defense in DEN possibly limiting opps for the offense. But I'd think Prater could be had in the last round or 2 of most drafts.

A few I love later...

Dawson - ...although seems like the cat's out of the bag in many mocks/drafts I'm seeing

Scobee - Love this guy in all drafts. I don't see him taken often before the top 10-12 kickers are off the board

Melhalff/Grammatica- It'd be nice if one of them wins the job outright here soon, still think it's the rookie though.

Longwell - If MIN takes that next step on offense, seems like he'd have all the tools in place for a stud K season. Dome games, stud rushing game, elite defense, weak division.

Nugent - Obvious reasons on offense. Promising defense and a nice schedule doesn't hurt.

If you had watched him in his last game (vs. Redskins), you'd change your mind REAL quick. He looked awful!!!
Must've missed it then, thanks for the heads up. What happened?
he missed a fg ( forget the yards). made the next. then, at the very end of the game, with a chance to tie, he missed a chip shot. i was surprised. i was thinking about him, too -- he's increased his points every year. will see if he rebounds this week.

:goodposting: I grabbed both these guys in my draft this weekend.

From week 1 to week 2, Taylor improved. They gave Taylor all the kickoffs in week 2.Seems like Taylor has responded favorably to the competition

He missed a 23 yard FG with 5 seconds left in the game. It was a knuckleball type kick that started to hook left and hit the up-right. The hold was good, so it was all him. He also missed a 43 yarder earlier in the game too. If a PK can't make a 23 yarder, then his time in the NFL will be questionable to say the least. :goodposting:

:homer:
didn't he just miss some 30 yarder in pre?

Why are people even discussing this? Lol.Just draft a kicker.
Equally
I've seen games in my league decided by less than a point, and often the playoff teams are decided via tiebreaker, so I'm not passing on anything.
Exactly...especially in leagues that start 2 kickers (like mine) kickers are VERY important. The difference between finding a gem kicker can be significant. A top fantasy kicker will get 145-150 points in a fantasy season in our league, and a bottom tier kicker will get around 100 points. If you can find two sleeper kickers that have a breakout season (like Folk and Crosby last year), thats a difference of 90-100 fantasy pts over a season between the two, which a difference of 6-7 fantasy points per week between two pickers - pretty significant if you ask me.

:goodposting: I'm getting Prater in every league this year. He's missed a couple in the preseason, but I'm hoping he can kick some long ones.
I'm considering Prater as well, but I think I'm leaning towards Mehlhaff and Coutu (we start 2 kickers). Prater has gone 6/8 this pre-season and was only 1/4 last year with Atlanta before getting cut.

(Rotoworld) Head coach Eric Mangini voiced his frustration with Mike Nugent after the kicker missed two field goals on Saturday.Analysis: Nugent missed from 43 and 23 yards. "Those field goals are pretty high-percentage field goals, in the 90 (percent range) league-wide," Mangini said. "Those you have to make. It's a chip shot. The 43-yarder is a lot tougher, but when you're that close (23 yards), those have to be like gimmes. It was a missed field goal from the 5-yard line to (tie) the game. You have to make it. We have to be able to execute that play. That's pretty standard operation procedure."

I wonder how Jay Feely would like being in NY and getting a chance to play the Dolphins twice?

:lmao: I don't know what was funnier. The fact that Magini pulled his offense off the field and sent in the kicking team to go for the tie, or the expression on his face, and watching him drop an f-bomb after the miss.

Well, I say that is what he (Mangini) deserves! Who the heck plays to go into OT in preseason? Go for the WIN and see if you can punch it in... I still can't believe they went for a tie. Sheesh!!!

While I've always told myself I'd never draft the Steeler's kicker because they have the toughest stadium to kick in, I actually just drafted Reed the other night.

Pittsburgh's offense is going to move the ball, and I'm not convinced that they're going to be improved at all running the ball in the red zone, particularly in goalline situations. Reed should get plenty of opportunities this season.

I thought he did it to give Nugent another shot after missing the earlier field goal.Yep, that didn't work out so well.
