Sleeper / Late Round TEs (1 Viewer)

So....hypothically, if you waited for everyone to fall off the board after drinking too many jeagers.....who'd you get? This is assuming the tier2-3s are gone. Such as my draft.....the following are still out there.....

Zach Miller

D Keller

L Pope

Royal

Mercedes

Boss

uh....can't think of anymore.

Keller has been tearing it up in the preseason thus far, so he is definitely worthy of consideration.

Shiancoe from Minnesota has been playing well. Childress has said he's 100X ahead of where he was at last year at this time

Unless you're in a very deep redraft or a dyno I wouldn't worry about sleeper TE's - there are a lot of good options after Scheff/Owen/Heath etc. that should produce similar numbers and at least one of them will be available on waivers if needed. The problem being I don't see much upside with them. If you're going to draft any of them go with Olsen, Keller, or Zach Miller but I'd keep them on a very short leash.

I agree although I'd rank them Miller, Olsen, Keller because of their positions on the depth charts. These are 3 guys with biggest upside. Otherwise don't worry about it.Maybe keep an eye on Leonard Pope too.

LJ Smith for me. He was TE9 two straight years, then was effected in the 2007 season by the sports hernia injury, he has an ADP lower than some mentioned above. With Curtis out, he could see some decent target amounts.

Fasano. At the very least noodle arm Chad is capable of adequately going through his progressions. If Fasano's the open guy, he'll find him often enough, I'd suppose.

Randy McMichaelAl Saunders is known for sending his TE to Pro Bowls (ie Gonzalez, Cooley)
I've been banging the Randy McMichael drum for months, for the exact reason that you cite, and I still like him. He's no Gonzo, but he's a better overall athlete than Cooley and Cooley put up pretty consistent numbers in that offense. However, the fact the Rams' OL still looks to be in shambles is tempering my expectations a little bit. Randy'll still have a pretty good shot to outproduce his draft position, IMO. In my leagues he's been going at an average of TE13. I expect he's going to outperform at least 5, maybe 6, guys who have been taken above him in those leagues.

I want to think Ben U at Cincy will have a breakout year, hard to draft him though, but should be availible as a FA.

Keller has to be an option just b/c of Favre.

I like Keller, but I think he's being OVERdrafted because of Fav-ruh. He has been in a couple of my leagues, that's for sure. Getting picked where he is I can't classify him as any sort of a sleeper. Owners are drafting him expecting top 10-12 production.

The Rams OL is still horrible & should be doing more that giving your expectations a moment of pause... He may be a flier with your last pick or two, but I would caution against drafting him any earlier than that.

If we are talking about sleeper TEs how can you not mention Tamme? The kid is a baller and might get his looks in passing formations and 2 TE sets.

Exactly, I read the thread and no mention of him.All SEC TE, receiving TE, Peyton loves his TE's, they run two TE sets and Dallas Clark gets hurt often.

I agree with this. The Eagles used their franchise tag on LJ Smith, so that says something about their commitment to utilize him. The Eagles are somewhat desperate in the passing game outside of Westbrook right now ...

only problem is that he's not even the TE2 right now. Gijon Robinson is...who's blocking they love

McMichael and Zach Miller are my favorites

McMichael because of Al Saunders and a lack of a good #2 WR in STL

Miller because of a lack of a good #1 WR in OAK

Carolina TE Dante Rosario. He is more athletic than Jeff King and he appears to be on the inside track for more production this year. He had a good game against WAS on Sat, including a TD. He's someone to target late.

I'm going with Keller in one league, but McMichael and Crumpler are sitting on the waiver list.

Im firmly on the Z-Miller bandwagon, but LJ Smith and maybe Mcmichael coudl be money

In Pasquino's article on targeting TE's, the only reason Miller isnt in the group 1 higher (1 WR in top 50 ADP) is because Curry is rated WR49...and I dont think Javon has impressed anyone, but hes hanging around WR30-something, so it almost puts him in the top tier for that.

Russell is young, and with the lack of options, I fully expect Miller to be the beneficiary. In limited time, hes even shown a penchant for lookin for Miller in tight situations. Maybe Im to optimistic bc I drafted him late, but unless you spend a pick in the first 5 rounds on Witten, KW, or Gates, I dont know how you dont like this guy, esp since Scheffler is TE3 in DEN

As I pointed out in a couple other threads, Saunders has been the benefactor of having ALl-Pro caliber tight ends on his roster when he got to the teams he's coached . . .Kellen Winslow in SDTony Gonzalez in KCChris Cooley in WASThese guys were already being productive before he got there, so he didn't have to change anything to make them productive. What happened when he went to a team without a top TE? Nothing. He was an Assistant Head Coach with the Rams in their peak years . . . and the Rams did little to nothing in terms of TE production. As far as I can tell, the base Rams offense has not had many plays for TEs, nor has Bulger looked often to his TEs. I'm not saying that McMichael won't be productive, but IMO playing the Sanders card won't be the automatic like in the past (which again he had little to do with).

:goodposting: :goodposting: It's been hard for me to keep my mouth shut, but this is the guy i'm going after in every draft this weekend. I've got four of them and i hope to have him in all four. i'm aiming for McMichael or Scheffler to go with him. the former should also be available late. i'm thinking that by waiting till rounds 10+ to take a TE I can build a solid core early and one of them will be a top ten guy in the end.

I like this order as well. Miller will lead this team in rec and Olsen is probably the best receiver on the Bears.

I am big time on the McMichael bandwagon. So far I have him in 2 out of 3 leagues. I think he has a pretty solid ceiling and a decent floor. At worst, I don't think he will kill you. At best he could be a top 5 TE. He doesn't have much risk and there are lots of other TEs out there you can go with if he doesn't pan out. I just can't see paying a lot for a TE this season. I have been adding extra WRs and RBs instead of taking a TE early. I guess time will tell if I get it right in 2008?

If you're in a "Shark league" you could pull an anti-shark move and pick up Scheffler real late, he'll be gone if there are any guppies like me though.
