Sleeper WR the rest of the way (1 Viewer)

Am I the only one who thinks this? Improved offense, increased # of targets, former 1st rounder. What do you think?

This could be his breakout week vs Tenn.

One of the things they have said they've been trying to focus on since Billick took over play calling is spreading the ball around. There may be one guy who does well one week and someone else may do it the next, but they're trying to keep from having "One Guy".

He may improve marginally over where he's been, but I would not expect a dramatic improvement to become a consistent starting fantasy WR. :2cents:

When McNair goes down for the season he'll be gold.

Until then, I'd keep him on the bench.

He was pretty good last week with McNair at QB. I like him a lot the rest of the way as well and I think he's looking real good this week against the Titans.

I think you hit the nail on the head. He'll have some good games, but some weeks Mason will be the guy, some weeks it will Clayton and Heap will almost always favor into the mix. Each week I'm faced with a choice of him or Eddie Kennison as my 3rd WR in a PPR league and each week I make the wrong choice. What I"m hopefull for Clayton is that he can consistently put up enough numbers I can start him with confidence and I"m not seeing that yet. To echo what someone else said, I think he'd be better with Boller.

In the last six games, Clayton has had at least 6 targets in every game but one and 10 or more in three. The only game where he had less than six was two weeks ago when he was hurt. During that span he has had at least 4 receptions in every game but one (the game where he was hurt). The yardage has been inconsistent and he's scored only 2 TDs in that span (both in the same game) but he's clearly been involved. I don't see that changing. If he gets at least 6 targets and 4 receptions this week (which have been his floor) I think he'll put up some real good numbers against the Titans.

Were do you see Clayton was hurt in the New Orleans game were he only saw 2 targets? The only time I saw him on the injury list was prior to the Carolina game, which happened to be his biggest game of the year.I'll throw out this first two games of the season when he was not involved in the offense and here is what he has done since in PPR leagues.15.47.77.727.1 (and two of the TD's were kind of flukey and this is the game he was listed as questionable with a neck)2.7 (as far as I can tell he was not injured or on the injury report for this game)15.3In trying to see what he's going to be with Billick calling the plays it's kind of difficult to determine right now because in the two games Billick has called the plays he's seen both his high and low weekly targets.

Mark Clayton tweaked his left hamstring again, but the injury likely won't prevent the Ravens' wide receiver from playing against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium.Coach Brian Billick said yesterday during his weekly news conference at the team's practice facility in Owings Mills that Clayton's hamstring - the same hamstring that had bothered him on three occasions since the Ravens drafted him in the first round in 2005 - flared up again during the second half of Sunday's 35-22 victory over the New Orleans Saints.

"The hamstring was tightening up a little on him, and the game was a situation where we removed Mark prudently to make sure that he didn't extend himself," Billick said. "The game was pretty much in hand."

Thanks, I did not know that. KNowing he was hurt and apparently left the game early in the one game he really failed to get any signifcant targets changes things a lot. Good info. I might have to move him in my lineup over Kennison in light of this. I did have Clayton on my WCOFF team last year and he was playing so good down the stretch I actually benched Deion Branch for him so I know he can play.

I have Joe Horn hurt and my decision between Kennison and Clayton is easy IMO. Im playing Clayton putting my money where my mouth is I think he puts up good WR3 with an upside of WR2 #s the rest of the way.

Ernest Wilford. He's done very well per target the last couple years, and he's doing it again this year. IF he gets chances he could put up #s way above what you'd expect.

P. Crayton if Glenn is out.
I agree. Crayton has had 5 recs or 60+ yards in 3 of his last 4 games with 2 TD for the year - all in a WR3 role. If Glenn is out for multiple weeks, Crayton steps in and the numbers will likely follow. This week at Arizona is a very good play if you're desperate for a WR3.

As for Crayton, watch out for Hurd:

CBS Sportsline

"...Undrafted rookie Sam Hurd was lining up with the starters during a walkthrough even before Glenn was hurt.

....Hurd, out of Northern Illinois, won a roster spot with Cowboys during the preseason by catching 15 passes for 200 yards and a score. He has one catch for 33 yards this season. Patrick Crayton, Dallas' third wide receiver, has 17 catches for 259 yards and two TDs."

If anyone's seen his college highlight reel or seen him play in college, you can attest to the Clayton's playmaker ability - I like him most weeks at WR3.

Crayton into the Glenn role scares me - I see a DROP not a bump in production. I see W"h"itten and the running game and Owens all benefiting - not Crayton.

OTOH, Wilford is clearly a beneficiary of the QB switch in JAX.

I failed last week with him, but I am starting Bryant as my sneaky WR this week with the 9ers heading into Martz' Lions land

Crayton or Hurd should produce more than they have so far, but I agree that it's Whitten and Owens who will pick up more of the slack. And a guy stepping into a starting role from a reserve spot isn't how I think of a "sleeper" in any event.

If we're talking about guys who might benefit from an injury -- Eric Parker. He's put up consistent yardage all season and the law of averages says he'll snag a few TDs in the 2nd half to go with it. If Gates were to miss any time Parker would see a real bump in his production since he's the #1 WR, but the #2 receiving option currently.

And obviously Deverey Henderson is a strong strong play as long as Horn misses time. No idea how he's #41 in this week's updated projections given Horn's downgrade.

Speaking of...why is Keenan McCardell ahead of Parker in the 250 forward? And why is Parker still #61 (or so)? He's in the top 40 for the Offensive Projections at WR again this week and has way more upside than down over the 2nd half of the season (TDs will come).

I don't get the lack of respect for Eric Parker either. He isn't a good TD option but the guy has been pretty damn consistent all season long and is clearly the No. 1 WR on that team in terms of production. In a PPR league he's a very nice WR3. He's only had less than 4 receptions in a game once in the last six and he's had at least 55 yards receiving in four of the last five. The lack of TDs and TD potential really hurts him but there's no way he should be outside of the Top 40 in my opinion. He's too consistent. Maybe the ceiling isn't very high but his floor isn't low either.

It's pretty hard to put up 900-1000 yards receiving and not catch a few TDs, so he'll get a few scores in the 2nd half of the season. I'm guessing he's worth 60 FF points over the last eight games, making him a decent play as a #3 WR.

I went the entire weekend (I was out of town) thinking Clayton was in my lineup. I started Bryant and forgot to switch b4 I left tow.

Didn't matter - I own LT :D

But I DID leave Clayton's 21 on the bench in favor of Bryant's 5 - won't do that again.

Just be glad you don't Mark and MIKE Clayton. I did earlier in the year and made the mistake of playing Mike on a week when Mark actually did well. :X Would have lost anyway, but was kicking myself. But back to point ....I'm liking Clayton (Mark) the rest of the way. Gonna be tough to rationalize starting him over my #1 & #2, but feel much better about my depth for the stretch run.
