SNF**Pittsburgh at Miami** (-7)(44.5) (1 Viewer)

Tua will boost da Fins offense. Steelers should make some hay against their defense. I can see some offense in this one...

Miami- 38
Pittsburgh- 30

Am I the only one who thinks the 72 Phins thing is overdone? Very different era and game, fewer games, etc. The 86 Bears were better, as were the Patriots who got upset by ELi in the SuperBowl

They'll all be dead in a few more years, just the NFL and Miami making $$$ on something special from 50 years ago.
That's what you do when you pay homage on the 50th Anniversary

They won 11 consecutive games with a backup QB, Earl Morrall.

one way to put it

aging former MVP (4 years prior) replaced the starter and had an All Pro season in only 9 starts

granted the whole league was so different, the '72 fins offense was 3 good RBs and one HoF deep threat

totally different game back then, CBs could mug wide receivers and everybody who was good had at least two workhorse backs

agreed they're overrated though

Steelers fans

Like pretty much everyone, I can’t stand Collinsworthless. Switched over to the Steelers audio, but Bill Hillgrove may be worse. He’s 81 years old. Time to be put out to pasture. On the Dolphins first drive (four minutes), he made THREE MISCALLS.

Called Jaylen Waddle out of bounds when he was three yards from the sideline.
Called a Mostert run up the middle when it went left called.
Called Minkah for a defensive pass breakup when it was Edmunds.

I had to switch again, now to the national network audio call.

Dolphins ’72 alum melancholy about reunion because of cognitive issues impacting team

>>"I can’t say I’m looking forward to the reunion because I’ve seen guys with CTE and they don’t know who I am,” said former third-string quarterback Jim Del Gaizo, referencing the brain disease caused by repeated trauma to the head.

It’s very difficult, seeing teammates who don’t know who I was. We’re not going to say the players’ names, but it was heartbreaking. One of the players didn’t have a freaking clue who I was. Seeing what happened to Jim Kiick and Nick Buoniconti was very difficult. It’s just very difficult to see the guys going through this.”

Of the 17 deceased players from the 1972 team, seven of them have been diagnosed posthumously with Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a progressive brain condition that’s thought to be caused by repeated blows to the head and repeated episodes of concussion.

Of the 27 who are alive, the Dolphins did not make a half dozen available to the Miami Herald this summer because of cognitive declines. Because CTE cannot be diagnosed until after death, it’s unclear if those declines are entirely the result of football. That’s why it’s understandable that the controversy surrounding the handling of Tua Tagovailoa’s health in the Bills game resonated with ‘72 players in recent weeks.<<

With all due respect, a lot of people don't know who Jim Del Gaizo was, CTE or not.

Again with all due respect, Miami over the '71-'74 Era was insanely good.
Super Bowl VI VII and VIII with a wacky loss to Oakland at the hands of the wounded duck thrown by Stabler or they might have faced off vs Pittsburgh in '74 to go back to the Super Bowl.
They have victories in that span vs some incredible teams like the Steelers and Raiders.
I consider who teams beat within their Eras and Miami stacks up with the best of them.
If you go through the history books and I'll be happy to dig deeper another time but they were a dominant team. They didn't win all those by accident and the World Football league, the WFL ended up taking their best players in 1975, it destroyed them.
