to be fair, some of the posts in the recent political threads were over the top even for ffa standards. i didn't read the latest one that spawned these latest latest threads that will probably join those threads in the oblivion, but personal attacks are the reason they're gone. not the topic. some of u made some great points in this respect in the last one that went away.

Ok, so i could see if someone like Joe who generally doesn't post here came in and said enough politics and nuked everything, that would make some sense....but to have Dodds who himself is VERY political and has been throwing around some pretty outrageous claims decides EVERYONE ELSE is too mean and unstable that we can't have nice things anymore...that's just petty and extremely bad form. Again, i've seen this play out before and it kills a forum. But if you want to suicide the FFA i guess that's your prerogative. Just don't expect any sympathy when this place is a ghost town.

I haven't seen what caused the "disappearing" so I can't respond to any specifics. I just am more of a fan of punishing/deleting offensive posts and not crushing all conversation. FBG can run the boards how they want but it's driving me away. Just my opinion.

Those political threads were NOTHING like the ones we see now. The country was even different imo. Now people treat their politics like fanatasy sports and the whole thing is getting a bit nuts.

There was no poster on here posting more about how politics is treated as sports. It wasn't abt different 8 years ago. People hated Obama from the jump and others hated the Scott Walkers rabidly. The Obamacare devates were pretty nasty IMO. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see a real difference.

It seems you have missed the point. You could try to read the threads again to reason it out fro yourself.

I should add that for a while there I thought it was pretty cool that a mod, not to mention owner, was diving into the conversation himself. Probably wasn't any way that wouldn't end badly though. Probably should have used an alias.

Dodds apparently decided that after months (years) of almost no moderation in terms of trolls and the like in political threads to ban all political discussion. Locked a bunch of threads. Deleted a bunch of posts.
Then, in threads that started with legitimate questions as to the draconian step taken, he deleted a bunch of individual posts (including a few by me) questioning things, although said posts were WELL within bounds of decency and being excellent to each other.
Some said the thread lockings and initial post deletions were timed just after Dodds had been called out, but I don't have details on that, since it appears the thread asking WTF happened is now also, well, axed.

People react the same way in real life. Most people I know end up gravitating towards people who think the same way so there's no real discussion. At least here we interact with people who have opposing views.

It was very similar to the scene in Good Will Hunting where Robin Williams chokes Matt Damon. And of course it was Tim doing what he always does, which is what Damon's character did to Williams'. Instead of having a conversation, he turned to labeling and classifying by hyper focusing on certain aspects that were said. Instead of discussing, he just spewed from his book knowledge of the subject. And just like it pissed off Williams' character it pisses off people here when he does it, and he does it a lot. So much so he did it to Dodds, and Dodds responded Williams like... as he should. Tim just doesn't get it. Maybe he will eventually like Damon's character did, but for now he just constantly labels and classifies people to avoid discussion, but posts 1000 times a day so it's only obvious to his victims. To everyone else they just see him producing a lot of noise.
