So the qb/wr combo is killing me (1 Viewer)

I have never believed in the qb/wr combo from a fantasy standpoint now dont get me wrong if the draft works out i will pick the wr from the team i have a qb on but this year has killed me

Eli/Plaxo Lost

Mcnabb/Curtis Lost

Brady/Moss Lost

Anderson/Edwards Lost

Palmer/TJ Lost

Is this just an unlucky year or does this theory hold water? Is this something to look at in the future?

Thanks

You had the Brady to Moss combo and lost this week?

Other than this week, how's that combo working out for you? Most owners would kill for that hook-up.

I would think that the Anderson/Edwards combo has been good for most owners, over the course of the season, as well.

Personally, I've got the Romo/TO hookup and I'm happy with that.

I haven't gone with the WR/QB hook-up before this year, but I already had TO and Romo was there in the 7th so I jumped on him.

I generally won't go into a draft hoping to get the hook-up combo, but I also don't think I'd shy away from a QB/WR combo in future drafts, should value present itself, either.

the palmer/tj combination is only unlucky b/c palmer has not held up his part of the bargain...

Can you really blame a QB/WR combo for the loss if you started Brady and Moss or Anderson and Edwards? Im my PPR B&M put up 47 this week, A&E put up 50. They've been pretty $$$ all season so far.

Maybe I'm not understanding your post and you've been getting beat by these match-ups.

This post is hard to read......Are you saying that this is a one game/week thing this week...?.......And if you are not a fan of the WR/QB connections , then why have them in 5 leagues.I think everyone in FBG's would love to have Brady and Moss on their team ... Top QB scorer , Top WR scorer .

For my money, it depends on the size of your starting lineups and the scoring. If you are in a 1/2/2 league, it is a lot of eggs to put in one basket, but I play in a 3WR league with bonuses for long TDs, so I either target a WR/QB combo on draft night, or make a trade. Hell, I've been using this strategy since my first year with Moon/Jeffries, then it was Brunell/Smith when I was in college and I've now it's TO/Romo. Sucks when they lay a goose egg, but hard to beat when that egg is gold.

My Brady / Welker combo is probably not going to work out for me during week 10 (bye). All other weeks though look pretty appealing. Especially given BB's penchant for piling on the score. Even fist and goal at the 1 is becomming a Brady play.

Seriously...as a strategy...it's a high risk / high reward scenario. If you get lucky enough to have a great duo, and they stay injury free...it can turbo charge your squad. But, I generally think the potential for downside outweighs the positive...so I'd never force it. But, I also would stay away at all costs either.

There are several variables that ultimately play into whether or not the combo would work out positively or not. I would suggest that not every week you'd want both QB and WR in the lineup. It's all about the matchups, as always.

Personally, I have the Romo/Witten combo and it has worked out great for me. However, I only drafted Witten after I had already gotten Romo because Witten came so cheap(auction draft) and the fact that I knew that Romo and Witten have a close personal relationship as best friends. I pretty much saw this season coming for the both of them, although I have to admit that Romo has exceeded my expectations. Witten was among a handful of players that were pushing the coaching staff last year to replace Bledsoe with Romo to begin with. It was obvious to everybody in training camp and practices that the offense was much more efficient with Romo. Parcells was just too afraid to pull the trigger.

On the other side of the coin, I would never set out to purposely draft a combo without extremely good reasoning. It can far too easily wreck your draft, and ultimately your season.

He says he does not do the qb/wr thing. I believe he is wondering if the theory works because he has lost to all these different combos over the course of the year. I only go with the qb/wr combo if it makes sense during my draft. I do know some owners that go out of their way to make this happen.

This how I read it also. The OP seems to be wondering if he should make a priority out getting the WR/QB combo.

My Bad i guess my post was confusing

I dont have any of these combo I have consistantly run into the qb/wr combo every week and lost mainly because of the numbers these combos have been putting up

My question is how legit is this theory? Should i incorporate it next year in my draftibng or is this an abnormal year

Sorry for the confusion hope that clears it up

I've had this before and it's okay unless they both get shut out. Then you end up with no /or few points from 2 positions. It ends up killing you on certain weeks. I find it's easier to overcome a bad day from one player as compared to a bad day from 2 players.

Kitna Calvin

Not working too well. Trying to trade for Derek Anderson ( which i have a post about ) since Edwards is my WR ( along with Owens )

Im not a fan of the QB/WR combo

I do like the QB/RB combo though, but it is even more specific because you need to pick guys on good offenses. And going by that, this year you could have had a lot of combo misses.

Putting all your eggs in 1 basket is never a great choice. It's like taking players with the same bye week. It'll help sometimes but at others you'll be screwed. QB/WR combos are pretty boom or bust.

A few select combos will work (and very few are predicted), but I usually shy away from them. I think it leads to less team consistency

QB/WR increases the vairaibility of your scoring, which can be good, or it can be bad.

Basically, the combo works well if you get a high scoring QB & WR from the same team -not very surprising.

Where I think it canny really work well, is if you can nail a QB or WR or both who you can get at relative value, and they play well. Right now Brady/Moss or Brady/Welker would be good - I think Brady/Welker would've come significantly cheaper.

An example of another cheap combo: I currently have Favre/Jennings on one team - I was winning my H2H before that last play, but it helped me in overall points, play-all, and league points - so it was nice. Favre was the expensive half, and he came in the 9th round - I took jennings, because I wantd him as a 3rd/4th WR in a start 3 league, figuring the combo might be nice during weeks other starters were on bye.
