Some tidbits for the weekend: (1 Viewer)

Johnny Detroit

Footballguy
Take it for what it is worth:

The cat we hired from the Patriots internal media team wrote this for Week #1:

Despite a broken foot, expect Tom Brady to start Week 1 against the Chiefs.

Below are some tidbits I've gathered from different sources. Keep in mind that I'm passing along this information. It's not my OPINION. If I want to add my thoughts after I post the info, I'll write it under "Tommy's Two-Cents." Also, these are RUMORS. A lot of media people and personnel guys hear things but media people, in particular, can't just publish everything they hear. That's where I come in. I'm not stating these things as fact, just buzz going around the league. If you don't like that sort of thing then you probably won't like this column. I have no favorites. If I hear something on Tony Romo, I will let you know about it. I will run this whispers segment once a week if you guys find it interesting and helpful.

--I talked to one of my sources in New England and he confirmed that Tom Brady does indeed have a broken bone in his foot. However, he believes the injury isn't serious. The Patriots and Bill Belichick are obviously keeping this injury under wraps, so there isn't a lot of information out there. My source did tell me this, "If Brady practices on Wednesday, he probably won't play. If he doesn't practice, he probably will play. That's usually how Belichick handles these things. As many of you probably already know, the Patriots/Chiefs line for Week 1 has been taken down at a lot of sportsbooks due to Brady's unknown injury status.

Tommy's Two-Cents: I don't know how this injury will affect Brady throughout the season but I expect him to play in Week 1.

--There are major concerns in Pittsburgh right now about the Steelers offensive line. Ben Roethlisberger was running for his life most of the preseason and the fact that the Steelers management - known for being cheap when it comes to re-signing their own players - let Pro Bowl guard Alan Faneca go isn't sitting well with some players. As one Steelers defensive player told a friend of mine, "How do you let a player like that go without a fight? His loss is bigger than most people realize. You take the best guard in the NFL off your line and it has a trickledown effect. Hopefully the other guys can step up but stuff like this makes you wonder."

--I was talking to one NFL Insider that I really respect and I asked him which teams he thought would contend for the Super Bowl in the NFC this season. Like everyone else, he mentioned the Cowboys but he's also high on the other dominant NFC team from a year ago: the Green Bay Packers. He actually has the Packers in the Super Bowl this season. He pointed out that with all the talk surrounding Brett Favre this offseason, people have forgotten that the Packers have one of the NFL's best defenses and a very good head coach in Mike McCarthy. He also believes that Aaron Rodgers is going to be a Pro Bowl quarterback this season in Green Bay. I guess only time will tell but this is a guy who has been very solid over the years with his "hunches."

--One team that isn't expected to be good this year is the Kansas City Chiefs. However, I had one NFL scout tell me that the Chiefs could sneak up on some people this year because of all the young talent they have, particularly on defense. "If you look at the Chiefs, they don't have a lot of players that are household names yet but they have some good young talent on that team. It's going to depend on how quickly those guys pick everything up and how well their young quarterback plays but this is a team that could be a tough out over the second half of the season."

--Remember Mike Vick? I talked to one NFL Insider this week who was gauging the interest level toward Vick should he re-enter the NFL. The results surprised me. Of the 15 teams he spoke with, nine said they would be interested in Vick, assuming he doesn't do anything stupid from here on in. Some of those teams said they would still play him at quarterback as well. It looks like it won't be much longer before Vick is back on an NFL field in some capacity.

As long as you have the sources that are the reliable kind I appreciate the write up and look forward to seeing htem in the future.

We own a gaming portal and get stuff all the time.

I also run multiple paid lines services at the same time and will usually have an injury before it will be on a news feed or ANY fantasy site.

First year playing fantasy....Of course my QB is Brady. lol

Will share what I can.

So I do not look out of line, if I get an injury update, what area on the forums should it go?

I am just sharing what he shared.

He is probably the most hated person in Boston, but he does have alot of contacts in the NFL.

 He'll have paid his debt to society, no reason for teams to blackball him.I love how a lot of people say he won't ever be in the NFL again, that makes no sense.

Tom Casale. We hired him to work on our content team. We worked in-house for the Patriots as one of their staff writers. Not very well liked by many Patriots fans since he left, but we did not hire him to be a "homer".

I asked about the practice question:

Johnny,

He did practice but it means nothing. You see the media can only be there for the first 20 minutes of practice. That's basically stretching. So Belichick can trot Brady out in front of the media to get the "word out" that he practiced. Now, maybe he did. Maybe he participated in the entire practice. But then again, maybe after the media left, Brady went in the trainer's room and was on crutches. The "this guy practiced" and the injury report are meaningless in the NFL. Any good coach can manipulate that any way he wants to. Heck, Tedy Bruschi was practicing with the team a month before he was taken off PUP after his heart attack. That is a clear violation of NFL rules but Belichick would wait until the media left and then Bruschi would come out. We actually saw him walking out to practice a month before they announced whether or not he was going to play again. Kind of killed the suspense but at least we could go on the radio and say, "I really have no doubt that Bruschi is going to play again." lol

Also Johnny, Wednesday is the big day because it's the first day the injury report is released, like that means anything. Yet, people still think it matters for some reason. Belichick was the first to really bend the rules but now virtually every coach in the league does the same thing. Except for Marvin Lewis. He tells you on Monday who is going to be out for the week. Makes no sense for him to not use the injury report to his advantage. Even Saint Dungy does it now.

I like your post/info, thanks.I would not be overly cynical about Wed. injury reports, of course they can be a vehicle of deception, but im sure it depends on the team issuing it.

Tom Casale.
you just ruined this thread for me.http://www.footballsfuture.com/phpBB2/view...asc&start=0

-I'm pretty sure (About 80 percent) that the Patriots taped that Rams walkthrough and someone got to Matt Walsh. I have had a lot of interaction with people who know more than they will ever let on. All the Rams have known about it for a while now. Marshall Faulk, in particular, believes the Pats taped their practice and thinks the NFL has been covering up the truth for years. From what I know, if I had a gun to my head and had my life on the line, I would say there was a tape at one point, that Walsh was the one who taped it, but it was best for everyone involved that info never be released publicly for obvious reasons. That's really all I can write here without implicating others who don't want to talk and I would never do that.

-----------

- He said Welker's injury is very serious and he may miss the season.

----------

--Hold on for this one: I heard from someone who is close to the case that there is a sex tape of Bill Belichick banging the married woman he had an affair with. I #### you not. The husband who is suing that woman for being unfaithful to him has a tape of his wife and Belichick screwing while the two of them were still married. Belichick is a very powerful man so I imagine he's doing everything in his power to squash this from getting out but it could only be a matter of time. A part of me doesn't want to see it but another part of me can't help but be intrigued.

I'm also a little confused about the brady thing -----------

--I talked to one of my sources in New England and he confirmed that Tom Brady does indeed have a broken bone in his foot. However, he believes the injury isn't serious. brady practiced wednesday and now he says practice means nothing?

I don't understand any of this at all --- was the original passage a typo?

is he saying that he holds him out of practice then plays him deliberately to trick the opponent, while simultaneously tricking the media into thinking he IS practicing??

It's pretty much been proved that this guy has an ax to grind and just has been throwing crap at the wall.

I've been more tempted to believe the legitimate media than someone who thinks Tedy Bruschi had a heart attack.

--Belichick is the best, most well prepared coach on the planet. If you are a Patriots fan, you should love him regardless. However, he's a miserable person. I wish I could say otherwise but I can't. I've seen him on the road, I've flown on planes with him, I've stayed in the same hotels with him and I've seen him interact with others on numerous occasions. He's just miserable. There's no other way to put it. I don't even think most of his players like him, they just put up with him and do everything he says because he's such a great coach and they respect him. The guy may not be a great human being but there is no one else I would want coaching my football team. It doesn't surprise me that Jimmy Johnson and Belichick are close friends. I always trusted Johnson because I knew he would probably kill his mother to win a football game. Belichick is the same way, which makes him a great coach.

which is in direct opposition to the numerous weekly interviews w/him I've listened to, as well as numerous personal accounts such as this:

I have had the good fortune to have met and dined with BB a few times with my family. (the "Dinner with the coach" Extra points experience). This is a fairly intimate dinner of about 40-50 people.

I am here to tell you BB is funny, warm, charming, caring all the adjectives never ever used by the media. He took questions from all of us and answered them all, dodging none and answering completely. He posed for pictures and signed memorabilia for each group, patiently with private words for each family. In our case, we had him sign a family SB 38 celebration picture as we all exited Reliant Stadium, he looked at it and asked us a few questions about the day.

BB is not who the media thinks he is or portrays him to be, not even remotely close.

so, what I'm now wondering is how much fbg is charging johnny detroit for advertising fees on this thread.

like him or not, the fact is he worked for the Patriots and spent time with the players, coaches, etc.

i do not take everything as fact from any source, but rather take it all in and use my best judgement.

in regards to any injury updates, where is the best part of the forum to post? i run two lines services all day for middling/scalping purposes and will usually have something before any sports or fantasy wire.

There will be a "sticky" thread for the official injuries each week.

advertising what? what links? i shared some information. i post daily on this site and like 5% mention a site I am affiliated with. probably less than that. considering i own various gaming portals and have been involved with offshore gambling for 10 years, not sure how passing info along is a bad thing? i get access to many things the majority of people on this site don't (unless they are running $500+ a month in live lines feeds to stay on top of everything).

What have you been doing here for three years?

pimping his site.
Lame. This guy comes in and posts seemingly meaningful information, and you are going to blast him because it has come out what site he owns/works for. At no point in the thread did he flat out say what site he worked for, simply passed along info that was given to him by a colleague. Move along if it's bothering you.

maybe you should take your own advice.

Thanks for the info!

I'll take all the sources that I can get.

I never take any source as 100%...You just can't.

Its always nice to get a different view on things.

I'm not looking to turn this into a pissing match - but were you not the one that made not one, but two references to JohnnyDetroit allegedly pimping his own site in this thread?

Studying for his first ever draft in 2008. That's some solid prep work, IMO.

Guys ... seriously, take this "inside info" with a HUGE grain of salt. This guy burned every bridge imaginable on his way of Foxboro, has proved he has an ax to grind and hasn't produced one SOLID piece of information among the many rumors he has thrown out there about the team.

Brady and Welker will play this weekend. If you don't believe that, I don't know what more I can say.

I hope that you will continue to post your info despite the accusations that you are somehow doing it for personal gain. Even if you are, I find the info interesting and potentially useful, and could not care less if you are somehow subliminally advertising to me. This is one of the more interesting posts I have read on the forum all day. Please keep em coming!

I post in the "free for all area" mainly. Almost daily. I just started playing fantasy football this year so did not have much of a reason to post in this area.

Pimping his site....Sounds like a TV Show.....Thanks for the great idea! I will pimp that also.....

Hey, I'll admit it, I read Star and the Enquirer in the check out line. This is essentially the same thing.

actually, this may not be as worthless as I initially thought.

maybe if I link this, I can eff w/the welker owner a little and get him to panic.

gotta make lemonade out of these lemons.

#######it...where is that line about welker missing the season??

waitaminute......

--Many of you have probably seen me take shots at Wade Phillips on the message boards for being too laid back. I like Phillips as a defensive coordinator but I'm not thrilled to have him as the head coach of my favorite team.

a dallas fan w/a bunch of insider new england info and connections.....

hmmmmmm...........

this is what he said about walker just to get the facts out:

I never said that. I said word was he had a bad hamstring and it may be worth watching. I also said that I was waiting to hear more about it. I got it from someone who works at The Sporting News and he heard Welker may miss some time in the preseason but it turned out not to be true because he played.

not going to turn this into a childish debate, but regardless of how much NE fans hate him for what he said, he did work for the Patriot's organization. He was a team writer for the Patriots which did give him information Joe Public does not have access to. He also met and established contacts with other media people. Once again, take it for what it is worth.

Good stuff JD.

People are going to be skeptical, especially the ones that don't frequent the free for all as they're not familiar with you. I remember reading your post about you guys hiring Casale in one of the posts over there a week or two ago.

Thanks, I already assumed any NE fan is going to bring out the torches. I probably would also if someone bashed my Lions and their storied history of championships before there was electricity. That is not big deal, but the spam thing is lame. Regardless, I will still post anything I find or see. Also, for the people in the wagering threads, I emailed my friends at the lines service to see if they can get them comped access thru the weekend. If you are a gambler, there is nothing like watching things happen in real time. The main lesson is that lines do not move to balance action or because of where the $ is going in 90+% of the time (maybe more).
