Sometimes I just don't get the NFL (1 Viewer)

Darrell Jackson for a 4th-round pick.

Randy Moss for a 4th-round pick.

But Branch fetches a 1st-rounder? He's had one good game in his career. And he's only a little more than a year younger than Jackson.

I'm really shocked that neither the Raiders or the 49ers could get more for these guys.

Exaggerate much? The guy has had 2 tremendous SB's and a great AFC Championship game. He has not proven to be a regular season #1 but I think he has had more than 1 good game.

DJack is a better fantasy player than he is real-life. He has some of the most inconsistent hands in the league and has lingering injury questions.Obviously most teams look at Moss as an Owens-type distraction that was being paid a wild $9 million per year.Welker for a 2nd and 7th was a little ridiculous, but he commanded a 2nd as an RFA.Seahawks are the only team who made a questionable move IMO but they had to figure their 1st Rounder would be a late pick. (and it was)

Branch has by far the least baggage of the three. With Jackson, it's a highly questionable knee that has seen him miss roughly half of the games the past two seasons and be more than 85% healthy perhaps only a handful of those. Moss has been the poster boy for questionable conduct for most of the past decade (some deserved, some not) until the ex-Mountaineers made him look almost like a model citizen. It's also about timing. Seattle thought they had a great shot at another Super Bowl last year, but Jackson was having his knee problems. They thought they would take a run at it and in their eyes, this pick figured to be in the 29-32 range. Barely a first rounder.

Give the Patriots credit for making the most of a tough situation with Branch's holdout. While it may have prevented them from winning the SB last year, they have strengthened their team for runs at more titles through the end of this decade at least.

Belichick has never been desperate for talent. In fact he is ruthless. But he can be that way because he could probably take a bunch of teenage girls and turn them into a superbowl championship team.

Actually, DJax is a much better Pro receiver than he is a fantasy WR. Which is why he's kept higher drafted players off the field.

True.

Welker was overcompensated for.

Seahawks were stupid to give up DJax, and stupid to think Branch will replace him. Jackson if a far better receiver than Branch. I fully expect Hackett to be the one to step up this season.

As you pointed out, he's had 3 good games
Exactly...BB fleeced the Seahawks on the Branch deal.
While it's true that they got better than market value for Branch from the Seahawks, it can be argued that trading Branch away ended up costing the Pats another Super Bowl appearance. The Pats basically hung Brady out to dry last year with the mediocre WR's they surrounded him with. With their busy off-season, it appears that they've learned from the mistake they made in 2006.

Are you a Seahawks homer? What makes you believe this? You cannot discount DJack's injury issues when you compare the two.

I totally agree. Jackson is a much better fantasy receive than reality. He has pretty mediocre hands, has injury issues and has been a locker room headache. The Seahawks were DESPERATE to not have DJax on their team, which is why they traded him for just a fourth rounder to a division rival.

Perhaps the Seahawk team doctors think his knee will not last but one or two more years? He may pass a physical now, which is why the Hawks wanted to deal him.

The Bears didn't get anything for Lance Briggs.

One offer, and that wasn't even for a 'draft pick' - it was for a swap of draft picks.

The Bears did alright trading Thomas Jones though - they moved up one spot, and effectively got two 3rd rounders, a fifth and seventh rounder. Nothing like restocking the roster.

Injuries, I can see being an issue. But as far as being a soid NFL WR, DJax is the real deal. He gets better separation, runs better routes, has better speed (or did at one time)... Branch is a bit smallish for a NFL WR, his routes get sloppy at times

I'm sure the 49ers are plenty happy with how much they got for him.

Note that two of those trades (Moss and Branch) has NE making out like bandits. I don't know what voodoo they work up there, but I wish Belichick had done that in Cleveland :toilet:

We'll see the difference between playing in Seattle with a uber accurate Matt Hasselbeck and a young QB in Smith. People here think way too much of D-JAX because he's a good fantasy football player and too little of Deon Branch because he's not a good fantasy player. These deals need time to evaluate. Seattle was fleeced on the Branch deal? Isn't it a little early to say that? Maybe it might be appropriate to see how that draft pick works out or what Branch does as the main receiver in Seattle this year. Lots of conclusions when hardly none of the data is in yet.
