Soon it will be BMW and Roy Williams in the starting lineup (1 Viewer)

Assuming "BMW" means Mike Williams, last I heard he was dogging it and looking like crap in general. That might have something to do with not starting. "Potential" (along with size, speed, whatever) is worthless if it's not utilized properly by the oatmeal-brain in question.

Roy Williams is the same bonehead that guaranteed a win against the Bears this week and said "We were so close to 40 points this week it was stupid" after they scored 6, yes, 6 points against Seattle. I do not put too much stock into anything that Roy Williams says.

At the same time, Martz is a guy that couldnt keep it together on a team that had more leadership-character types than most: Warner/Bulger, Faulk, Bruce, Holt.....

It probably WILL be a rough ride up there.

A mind game by Williams. He knows that they will lose to Chicago if martz plays furreyscum, bradford and the rest of the practice squad. Now he makes the claim that they will beat Chicago, then states he needs to be lining up with BMW. So if it doesn't happen because of the egomaniac martz, then he has his excuse. Someone wants to win in Detroit and it sure isn't Martz or maranelli.bradfordfurreyscumbodiforddrummondsome ellis loserYeah, that will win you a game or 2..

Let me tell you about Roy Williams.

For all of his talent he takes too many plays off. Roy has been known to short arm balls as well, and give up on balls. (ala Bill Schroeder) They were just talking about this on WDFN last night. So Roy needs to get his own house in order.

What do you have against Furrey? Seriously, all the guy did was make key grabs for first downs. After watching the game, I became a big Furrey fan. I'll take production over potential any day.

I recently dropped him in a dynasty league for this reason.

Furry suprised me a bit. I thought he looked mediocre at best in X-season. The guy is a hustler, you have to give him that.

 Furrey made a couple of fantastic grabs in key situations, and was easily the best receiver they had on the field performance wise.

Interesting. Right on the heels of him saying it was "stupid how close they came to scoring 40 points" last Sunday.

Furrey was the only one making things happen, Roy was doing a damn thing effort-wise.

From the link:Mike Williams was fined by the team for being late for meetings last season and being overweight. But he has lost more than 20 pounds, has gone down a pad size and claims he is at his optimum playing weight. He hired a personal chef and eliminated fast food from his diet.

"It's just night and day," Roy Williams said. "The first day he came in he was fat and slow. Now he comes in and he can run and catch, and he has developed better practice habits."

I probably sold low on BMW in one of my dyansty leagues, but I don't think he will make much of a difference in the NFL. I'll believe it when I see it.

Starting to get a tad antsy owning Roy in a dynasty league. When a guy guarantees victory and second guesses coaching decisions as to depth chart in week 2 of the season, his flakiness is exceeding his production IMHO.

Well, if he can run and catch he's certain to be amazing.Look, I understand that Roy is likely saying that Mike's back to his amazing potential, but a WR gets paid to run and catch. Every guy on that squad can run and catch, all the way to the practice squad. If they couldn't, they'd've never been drafted. Being in shape and practicing right is like an actor knowing his lines - you don't applaud it, you expect it. It's the beginning of being a professional and being good at the job, not the end. Until Mike starts making some waves ON the field, he's just a guy who has the potential to be a good receiver. He's not a good receiver yet.

Maybe not. Link

# Wide receiver Mike Williams, last year's first-round draft pick, was inactive for the game. What's up with that?

Williams better get used to it. Unless there's an injury to either Roy Williams or Corey Bradford, Mike Williams could be spending a lot of time on the inactive list this season.

Consider: Rookie undrafted free-agent receiver Shaun Bodiford had a knee injury and couldn't play this week but, instead of moving Mike Williams up the depth chart, the Lions elected to sign another rookie undrafted free agent -- Devale Ellis -- off the practice squad and activated him for the game. It appears to be a touchy subject for head coach Rod Marinelli who, when he was first asked about it Sunday, said, "No comment." Marinelli then explained that "I like Ellis, we felt he had a real good week (of practice). He can help us in special teams, so we're looking for as many guys who can contribute in many ways." Because Mike Williams doesn't contribute on special teams, the only way he's going to be active is if there's a need for an extra receiver.

The Detroit Lions on Tuesday signed free agent wide receiver Az-Zahir Hakim to a one-year contract.

Hakim was with Detroit from 2002-04. During his career, he has played in 104 games, getting 299 receptions for 4,044 yards and 28 touchdowns. He's carried the ball 30 times for 197 yards and one touchdown.

Hakim also has returned 165 punts for 1,773 yards and three touchdowns.

Detroit also re-signed wide receiver Devale Ellis to the practice squad. Ellis was released from the 53-man active roster Monday. The rookie from Hofstra was signed from the practice squad to the active roster last week.

From Maxi to Mini? NOW the guy cuts out the whoppers - only when he going to get broken off?I think he's a lot closer to C Rodgers than ROY. And at this point, more importantly, so does Martz.

I bumped into BMW at the 7-11 down the street from the Lions training facility in Allen Park, MI. He had to rent a place near the training facility because he was always late to meetings. This was the night of the preseason game vs. Buffalo after the game was over and he had zero catches.

You want to know what he was buying? Beer and lots of it. I never met the guy in person until then and I now agree with all of the critics that say he should move to tight end. He is huge. He seemed like a nice guy but he looked more like Antonio Gates than your prototypical NFL WR.

I will also say that he displayed great hands with the beer and didn't drop any before making a smooth handoff to the empty seat on his Range Rover.

Yeah, the Az Hakir signing refutes just about every single, according-to-the-player point in that article. I'll beleive it when I see it, and even then I won't be expecting much.

:lmao: NICE

I think its incredibly stupid to keep a 2nd year WR who was a high end draft pick inactive on a consistant basis. You gotta play the guy...

Why? Once he showed what he was all about on the field, his position in the draft is irrelevant. You play the guy who has the best chance to get you wins - not who you are paying the most or who you drafted the highest.

Are you implying that playing Mike Williams simply b/c he is a higher draft pick is a way to get closer to wins?Right now, as NFL players, I would take either Bradford or Furrey over slipping Mike Williams into the lineup.

i like furrey too

he made a big time catch over the middle where he had to kind of jump head first into the safety...he got lit up in classic tom waddle fashion and jumped right up from it...tough guy.

fantasy wise furrey has little to offer, but lion fans are gonna love him if he does this every once in a while

as far as mike williams and the beer-im sure it was just a few guys getting together to wish charles rogers one of those bon voyage parties

I'm implying in seeing what you have on the field on gamedays before playing these rethreads that aren't going to help you win anything but another high draft pick.Mike Williams wouldn't be the first bad practice player to become a solid contributor.

Except his attitude and generalk ability are not contributing - Bradford is not bad - he's a better deep threat than beer belly Williams.

Furry is the classic example of a "winning" NFL player - he makes the tough catch.

Williams gives you nothing - make the case for why *Williams* should be on the field when he has proven nothing except being a slovenly high drafted egomaniac.

I think the Bears defense has the potential to set fantasy records this week for DSTs.

Martz's throw first, throw second, and throw third offense, with that pass rush and secondary, and given the fact that Detroit hasn't even come close to adjusting to the new offense yet...it's the perfect storm.

There could be BAD things happening this weekend.

Except that the Detroit D is no fluke this year. They are solid and will hit the Bears in the mouth. The one thing I expect to see from Detroit D is ferocious hitting, much like what you see with the Bears D. There are going to be some turnovers created by both Defenses this weekend. I know the Bears will be favored to win, but this isn't going to be another 38-6 pounding like last year when Joey Ballgame threw 5 INT's.

Also it would appear from the article, if true, that BMW has gotten the message from the very thing that people in here are #####ing about.
Um, i think not...Mike Williams is miffed that comparisons have been made between him and Charles Rogers, who was released before the season began."For some reason I got lumped in with Chuck," Mike said. "I don't really know where that came from or why."

I like Roy. He is a stud. I think the reason he is running his yap is a direct by-product of playing in Detroit. They are a joke, and always will be. That atmosphere has to drive a talented athelete with a limited window to win crazy. "kitna, millen, Garcia, WTF?"

I predict Roy will play the TO card this year until he gets benched, traded, and then picked up by some other team where he will promtly spike on the fantasy charts to super top tier stud status.

Per Rotoworld:

Mike Furrey will start for the Lions against Chicago in Week 2.

He led Detroit in receiving last week, but we wouldn't expect consistent production from a receiver who was playing safety last season in St. Louis. He's unlikely to keep the starting job for long.

I'm not sure where this will go, but it's a good sign for Furrey supporters.

Interview with Kowalski

Q: Roy Williams' mouth. He will not shut up! After the game he said "We can't be stopped. We can only stop ourselves. We proved that against the Bears, Packers and Rams." If they can't be stopped, how are they 0-4?

A: They were stopped with six minutes left. They're searching for answers. It's pretty pathetic that the conversation is now about whether Marinelli can keep the team together. They see there is hope here offensively. How big a mouth would he have if they were 3-1.

Q: Was he beating the drum for Mike Williams?

A: Yes. He said something like, "Mike Furrey had a nice day out there, but it'd be great to see Mike Williams out there." He wants to see more play-makers on the field. He thinks there is big-play potential with Mike Williams as the No. 3 WR, and he could be right. If he thinks they should take Furrey out to put Mike Williams in, especially after the day he had yesterday, that's ridiculous

Your hyping the wrong guy. You want to keep an eye on Shaun Bodiford. He is coming off from injury and will be worked in slowly. He has the speed that Martz loves. This is the guy they want in the starting lineup.
