SPECIAL INVESTIGATIVE REPORT - TONIGHT! (1 Viewer)

REFER TO PAGE 2, POST 68, for the UPDATE for TONIGHT'S BIG INTERVIEW with AFFL.

HERE

*********************************************************************

Some of the biggest names in High Stakes Fantasy Football are drafting tonight for a SEAT at the PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP next season.

One thing you'll QUICKLY learn about this group... They don't follow the herd so to speak, if they want a guy, they go get them. I'm not talking McFadden in the 2nd type of craziness (I doubt), but you'll see picks much earlier than expected simply because the drafter felt there was slim to no chance of that player making it back to them.

What I want THIS thread to be about is what picks in this draft are good/bad and/or what picks are reaches/value etc.

The draft starts tonight at 10:30 EST/7:30 PST and coverage starts at 11:00 EST/8 PST.

At 11pm EST tonight, the show will be streaming LIVE and we will have the chatroom buzzing with the Red vs Blue Crew - Red vs Blue - Show Page

Also, while you're listening to the show, you can Watch the Draft LIVE

If you can't make the show LIVE, click this link, and the podcast will update to your iTunes for listening later. Subscribe thru iTunes

Here is the list of participants and draft slots:

1. Tom Yates - Recovery Boys

2. Lance Turbes - Sportsbettingman

3. Ollie Radakovitz - Radballs

4. Steve Carter - 99ers

5. Don Thompson - Team Thompson

6. Bill Wasosky - El Toro - BWAZZ

7. John Duckworth - War Kittens

8. Mike Trent - Red vs Blue

9. Mike Santos - Coyote Streakers

10. Josh Held - Day Drinkers

11. Donnie Terminiello - Azzurri

12. Ian Ritchie - Hawk and Roll

Several Footballguy regulars are in this draft and I'm counting on the Footballguys crew here to provide feedback on the value and the reaches in this draft. If you'd like to call the show and provide your input, give us a call at 347-324-5404.

Here is the draft board guys. (with color coding by position) VERY NICE!

http://www.mockdraftcentral.com/draft_grid.jsp?id=106842

Let er rip!

Here is what I found most noteworthy:

1. Recovery Boys taking Fitzgerald at 1.1 overall. Could this be a sign of the times?

2. Hawk and Roll, the #1 player in the world, didn't take a tight end until round 17, in this format that awards 1.5 ppr for TEs.

3. 99ers taking DWill 1.4 and cuffing him with Stewy in the 4th. Are both startable options this year? I think so...

4. War Kittens waiting until round 7 to take a WR and will start 4 RBs strong all year.

5. Azurri starting the draft with AJ and Moss. FILTHY! His RBs are more than servicable in Kev Smith, Moreno and Derrick Ward. You like? Will more try the WR/WR approach this year?

I think Ollie destroyed this thing getting Peterson and Portis and STILL getting Jennings and 85 at WR as well as Gonzo at TE. ridiculous top 5 imo.

War Kittens was looking real good until taking his 4th RB in Willie Parker (already had Chris Johnson/Westbrook/Grant) in the 6th when his 1st WR could have been either:

Evans

Royal

Cotchery

DeSean

With 1 of those instead of a 4th RB he would look better rather than sporting

Moore

Bradley

Berrian

Harvin

Camarillo

SSMith (NY)

had to do some stuff around the office today so I gave the podcast a listen. One team stood out in the bad end of the pool

Rules - Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 PK, 1 D and 2 FLEX -- TIGHT ENDS 1.5 PPR

Which picks are standing out as bad picks? Step out and say it, don't dance around it.

Several different organizations have taken a shot at player rankings, but the most recent was posted over at WCOFF not too long ago. Hawk and Roll I believe has cashed in the Main Event 6 years in a row. That's incredible, hence the #1 ranking. Tommy Yates, won over $100 grand last year playing fantasy football, Radballs has several WCOFF league titles and Billy Waz is one of the most winningest players in NFFC history. That's just to name a few.

No offense, but is there a reason we should care about this draft?
Fair question. I asked a few moderators before posting it and it was stated that we could request feedback from the Shark Pool with regards to value picks and overall team construction. Many of us will be playing this EXACT format (2flex, 1.5ppr for TEs) in the FFPC so we're trying to guage what works best and to get a REAL estimate on player ADP from serious drafters.I think what can help most of us is to recap how these guys decided to best form their team and determine if that's a winning strategy for ourselves come September.

What does the team look like when we start off WR/WR, or RB/RB/RB. What does the team look like when we take our QB early, or TE early... etc...

Here's the draft board again for analysis: http://www.mockdraftcentral.com/draft_grid.jsp?id=106842

So because these guys have tons of money and I dont that apparently makes them better...Not saying some of these guys arent good, but I'll put my skills up against anyone anyday...

Congrats to the guys who won what they have...wish I had that kind of cash to throw into a league...

I gave serious thought to Royal instead of FWP, but you have to remember this is a dual flex league, you can start 4RBs and only two WRs also TEs get 1.5 PPR making a good TE very valuable.

How much cash do you have to spend? this league has only a $150 entry fee and the winner gets a shot at 80K next year in the FFPC main. You don't have to pony up 1500-2000 to get into the highstakes events. If you a confident in your skilss play a couple of satellites. Chris Moneymaker won the WSOP on a $40 satellite entry.

I think recovery boys is in trouble. Many horrific reaches. Vincent Jackson is about the only player I like.

Well I am not totaly familiar with the nuances of this scoring system because I don't play in these leagues.

I do like Radballs draft here. A lot.

Having Forte and Fitzgerald taken picks 1 and 2 was a gift. And he didn't waste the opportunity.

AD - At pick 3 this is a semi-steal.

Portis - why is he still on the board at pick 22?

Jennings - terrific young WR who is competitive with the elite guys but still not universaly accepted as a elite WR yet I guess.

COC - best WR left on the board. Rather have him than TO, Roy Williams, Edwards Antonio Bryant who were all selected in the same range.

Gonzo - Falls due to being in Atlanta now. I think he still catches 80 if not more.

This is a fantastic start.

Hines Ward - #1 WR for the Steelers. Good WR 3

Romo - Will miss TO but he still has Witten.

Mason - Solid WR always undervalued.

Chester - Perhaps the best handcuff RB in the league and startable with AD in a pinch. Good value this late even if you don't have AD.

Riwi - Not out of the picture yet. Good upside pick.

Nicks - upside pick at WR 5

Mushin - another overlooked veteran. But I think he is done being useful in FF.

Sheffler - decent upside backup TE

Campbell - Backup QB. Pairs with Portis which works as some insurance.

Earl Bennett - Another high upside WR if he becomes Cutlers favorite target.

Bears D - Still a capable defense when healthy.

Michael Clayton - Got a new contract with the Bucs. Limited upside here unless Freeman comes on like gangbusters.

Edge

Javon Walker

These 2 might not play but the risk is well worth the reward this late.

Rackers - valuable kicker.

I have tried looking at who else he could have taken with each of these picks but I keep agreeing with his decision. Every pick.

The other 2 drafts I liked best were Coyote Streakers and Azzurri. But I disagreed with a few of their picks. For example Shockey. And CS taking Harvin and Ginn. I wouldn't have grabbed those 2 back to back.

Am I looking at the board wrong or wasn't FWP taken AFTER those WR's in the 6th? This wasn't a 3RR draft, right? I still would've maybe taken SMoss or another WR (Coles) there but if the strategy was to go with 4 RB's primarily in this format I can understand the pick more than over THOSE 4 WR's....Now Cooley over them, is the ? - But it is 1.5 PPR for TE's....

I don't understand the 12 Team taking Lee & Heiden @ TE in a 1.5 TE PPR or really his Big Ben/Chad Penn QB combo.

That's TWO pretty weak positions for the sake of having JJones @ RB (over Carson) & a lotta lesser guys (the Seattle WR's) over other TE's.

Fair enough, I would have taken my chance on Addai instead at that junction from a RB standpoint.I do think Parker could be a sneaky value play this year, but I wouldn't have taken the risk of nabbing him those WR's still on the board

I must say, the more i think about it, with 1.5 PPR for TE, I can't believe the 1st TE was taken at the 24th pick.

Also, I think Winslow at 6.11 could be the biggest SOD

RB, WR or TE, which allows for starting 3 tight ends, or 4 RBs. Very flexible.

Recovery Boys...

I understand taking the shot at Reggie Bush as your RB1 in the 3rd, but with Welker/Jennings out there to pair up with Fitz would have been nice.

The part I hated was the DMAC/Vjax picks at the turn of the 4th/5th.

I may have opted for going all out with the 3TE set, and taken Gonzo/Cooley, or even MLynch

You are correct those receivers were all off the board. Cooley was the #4 scoring TE in this system last year and that was with only one TD.

Royal was gone as was Addai. I thought about Royal vs Cooley in the 5th. All of the receivers you listed were gone by my pick in the 6th.

He may have "won" the draft but it's because he was gifted ADP due to the inexplicable picks ahead of him. Team 2 must be on Team 3's payroll, to allow him to consistently get better value throughout the draft. I'd be pissed if I was in this league, that's a joke.

Leon Washington ahead of Donald Brown ?Marshawn Lynch at 5.06 ? way low.Rivers in the 7th and Ryan in the 9th also seem very low.1.5 PPR for TEs and H&R goes with Donald Lee and Steve Heiden, this will kill him.Josh Morgan in the 17th = Steal,,,, after Rasheid Davis, Devin Thomas, David Clowney ?Great value for Derrick Ward as the 28th RB off the board.

Don't understand the Brett Favre pick when other starting QBs on the board. Seems like War Kittens is taking a big chance if his starting QB, Drew Brees, goes down. Can you pick up players off waivers?

You seriously don't understand an upside pick like Favre pick as a QB2 in the 13th round?Tes there are weekly waivers that is why most teams only have one DST and PK.

100% agreed. We discussed this on the show. What would Marshawn's adp be if it weren't for the suspension? Mid-late second at worst? Steve Smith and Brandon Marshall had the same thing happen to their ADP last year. If you can find a servicable fill in until they're ready, look out!

No kidding. I could see Favre finishing in the 2nd half of the QB1's. More likely to settle in around the QB12-16 area -- still a nice QB2.Give me Favre over Campbell, Orton, Flacco, Russell, Pennington. Only QB I'd debate could put up better #'s is Hasselback. The Favre pick looks like it was a good one made at the right time, as it set off a flurry of QB picks (4 of the next 5 picks).

Agreed. Matt Ryan was an AUTOPICK by the system. He was experiencing storms in his area and his internet went down. Also, about 5 seconds after his Breaston pick, we all heard on the air, "DAMN..." it was a classic moment.
