I would love to see the team at footballguys get alittle more into the dynasty aspect of rookies.

It would be great to see a list of rookies spotlighted but instead of an outlook for this year for a range of 5 years to be up for discussion

If footballguys wouldn't mind I'll list 3 guys here and I will continue it in a couple of days with 3 new guys' names or if someone from the staff would like to continue it that would be great as well.

1) Sam Bradford

2) Golden Tate

3) Brandon LeFell

Next list of rookies will be on Wed

What I think would be interesting to know is do you think they will be starting this year and if not how many years til they do. Do they have potential to be a top tier player in fantasy for their position and how they "fit" in with their new team.

Upsides and downsides for the next 5 years

I think you have a great idea here. I just don't think that many people really want to put in the work it would take to complete the task at hand. If I had more time on my hands I'd love to participate in these threads. I could give some general predictions on the guys and I'm sure just about anyone could. I think people are looking for more out of threads like this though. At any rate, here's my general thoughts on the guys above.

Bradford - It would take a small miracle for St. L to not start Bradford this year. All signs point to him going through a similar time line onto the field as that of Matt Stafford from last year. Unfortunately for Sam, his team is almost just as bad as Det was last year and IMO he isn't nearly as NFL ready as Stafford was. None the less, Bradford will be thrown into the fire this season and I would envision him struggling heavily. St. L simply isn't a good enough team right now to protect a rookie QB who is learning on the fly.

Some positives:

-Sam has great mobility and this should help him fend off the storm a little in 2010.

-He has one of the best RBs in the NFL lining up behind him and St. L will be able to run the offense through Jackson early in Bradford's career.

-Bradford is an accurate passer who has strong natural tools.

Some negatives:

-St. L has a young Oline that would have to rank in the bottom 10 of the NFL right now. Mistakes up front could cost Bradford.

-Outside of Jackson, the cupboard is pretty dry as far as playmakers go. Avery is a decent deep threat but his game needs a lot of polishing to become a go to guy for Bradford. Gilyard, who St. L drafted in the 3rd round, is the next most appealing option on this roster and it's hard to see that as a good thing right now.

-Transition to an NFL style offense. Bradford had it pretty easy while playing at Oklahoma and he didn't play in a system that really translates to the NFL very well. He will have to put in the necessary time and work to make the transition.

-Probably the largest cirtisism of Bradford as a prospect is that he really wasn't pressured. The ridiculous talent in Oklahoma allowed for a Ken Dorsey like life behind center. He will face lots of pressure this year in St. L.

The more I look at the situation Bradford landed in the more I'm liking it. I've been a pretty strong deterrent of his heading into the draft but that is only because I think he was a bit overrated as a prospect. He has great physical tools and is an accurate passer. Ideally you'd like to see a bit more arm strength but he can still make all the throws adequately. He is deceivingly athletic and will prove to be more mobile than most expect early in his career IMO. I hope this doesn't become a crutch he relies upon due to early struggles in St. L though. What I like most about Bradford as I look forward is that I think St. L has the potential makings of a very strong Oline in years to come. Jason Smith is a budding star and St. L grabbed Saffold at pick 33 to replace the struggling Alex Barron. I could easily see Smith/Saffold teaming to make a great book end combination for many years. I think Bradford will end up being an average starter in 5 years. If things really break right and he gets some great playmakers around him, an above average starter. I don't see him as becoming a star or Pro Bowl caliber player. Bradford's development (like almost any QBs) is going to greatly hinge on how he handles this year and next IMO. He will face adversity he never encountered in his collage career and that is what scares me most about him. Really it's a guessing game as to how he will react to it.

Bottom line:

Expect a lot of early struggles with Bradford. 2010 will be a discouraging year. If he can survive the storm however I think there is an optimistic future for him as a starter in the NFL.

See, this has taken me so long that I'm not even going to bother with the other 2 guys right now. I had to rush finishing this one up because the wife is screaming that "it's time to go!"

Thanks Jurb26, that was a great write up and definetly what I am looking for with this thread. I understand it takes alot of time so thanks for your input.

1) Sam Bradford- I like Bradford a ton long term but I really worry about young Qb's on bad teams starting right away so I hope to see some of Feeley early on and bring along Bradford slowly. I think in the next 3-5 years he could be in the top 5 fanatsy scoring for Qb's IF the Rams help him by adding a few more weapons and of course Jackson staying healthy. The only downside to his game IMO is the injuries but I would have taken him in a heartbeat over Stafford or any Qb taken in the least ten years as a rookie. Now take my opinion for what it's worth because I would have taken Carr 2nd coming out and owned him in most leagues.

2) Golden Tate- I'm not the biggest Tate fan I think he is more of a college star type then NFL stud a lot like how I felt about McFadden when he came out. Now he is in a prefect position to be a stud from day one because there is very little in front of him and I see them playing catch up a lot. Now trying to predict five years ahead is hard because we won't know who his Qb will be because I'm not sold on it being Whitehurst and Housh and Branch will both be gone. Saying all that if I had to make a guess I think he is mid tier guy a lot like Nate Burelson who he is pretty much replacing.

3) Brandon LeFell-I think LeFell just like Tate will be given every chance to win the number two job in Carolina and could eventually be the number one down the line. The question is does he have the skills to be that guy which I don't believe he does. I think he is one of the few players who could look a lot better year one and two then he does year three to five if he is asked to be the man. I think he is going to be a solid number two guy for a few years but can't see him being a number one. Now depending on what happens when the new coach takes over in Carolina which will happen either this year or next a good two Wr can put up some decent fantasy numbers. Again five years for a Wr is a lot harder IMO to judge then a Qb or Rb because they need more help.

Let's try 3 bigger profile rookies to see if this topic can get going

Ryan Matthews-Ben Tate-Mike Williams

5 year outlook.................................

rookie's what?

The problem with Bradford being rushed into service is that I'm a firm believer in 'shell shocking' rookie QBs into failure. He's going to get pounded, and if it lasts more than this season (basically if the Rams don't improve significantly going into next season) he could end up being a a coulda-shoulda prospect.

That's really why I'm hoping they send one of their scrubs in there, at least until midseason, and allow Sam to adjust and learn. The Rams have to know it's a lost season, anyway, right?

Um, does this whole concept not seem totally silly to anyone else? How many rookies are out of the NFL in less than 5 years? A pretty large percentage I'm assuming. This means that even the most knowledgeable personnel men in the NFL don't know how these guys will translate into the NFL, much less how they'll be doing in 5 years.Nice idea but just speculating on next year's performance is hard enough. No one is going to be able to provide a 5 year scope that is worth a (fill in the blank).
Really isn't almost every topic on this board pure speculating or opinion based in some form or another. If anyone really knew who the next Miles Austion or Michael Turner is going to be they wouldn't be in a discussion forum they would be getting paid for that and really that is just as hard to guess as which top rookie will be a stud in a few years. What I find silly is people who go into these topic and feel the need to write something like you did if you don't like a topic why respond just move on to one you like or does that not make you feel better about yourself.
