Split King Bed? (1 Viewer)

fantasycurse42

Footballguy Jr.
Looking at getting an adjustable base bed, and now wondering about a split king so we can each adjust our side. Anyone have a split king? I'd think the middle of the bed where the two mattresses combine would be uncomfortable, anything anyone can speak of about this would be helpful.

TIA.

Briefly looked into it and got the exact feedback I expected. Some loved that they could finally have "their side" be comfortable for them, some hated it for the reason you mentioned. It's a coin flip.

My wife and I each get 1/2 of the bed. Unfortunately for me, she gets the middle half and I get the two outside quarters.  I'm thinking a middle barrier line would be a boon for me.

That said, I don't think I'd do it personally.

Comfort would be a personal thing however I would think that the split king would be lot easier to move

separate rooms, separate beds.  Believe me, it's for the best
Both my daughters are out of the house now.....when I really want a good nights sleep I just crash into one of their beds. I am a light sleeper and my wife flips and flops all night..and then gets up to go to the bathroom or get water at least once.  I wake up every time she moves around.

Ours is a Select Comfort split queen adjustable.  With the padding between the sections and over the entire width, I've never noticed any difference in lying entirely on my half and lying partially on the divider.  Of course, if you're the "princess and the pea" type, ymmv.

What is a split queen? A split king is basically two twin beds.

Flex top, happy medium where only the top half of the mattress is split.  Heads adjust separately, feet together.   Biggest PIA is finding sheets.

We spend a fair amount of time reading and/or watching tv in bed so we thought an adjustable bed would be beneficial.  Honestly were I to do it all over again I probably wouldn't bother.  She has a dozen pillows on her side so she doesn't use it much.  Would be awesome if you were laid up in bed because of injury though.

Got one a few months ago, girlfriend really wanted one.  I was indifferent, really, as I don't spend much time in bed watching tv or reading or anything.  That being said, it is really nice on those weekend mornings when we do want to Netflix and chill.  It vibrates, too, which is pretty nice.

And yes, the middle becomes the DMZ as it would be uncomfortable.  But we always stick to our halves when sleeping anyway, so that wasn't really a consideration.

We have since bought a sectional couch with power recliners and a console with drink holders in it.  We're not big cuddlers, as you can probably infer.

We bought a split king and adjustable base and couldn't get past the open divided portion in the middle. We both liked having the adjustability and the bed was comfortable. But didn't work for sexy play time at all.    We shopped around and found the R.E.S.T. bed.  It was a king size bed with a fully adjustable base with no split in it. It also had both sides of the bed with 5 chambers of individual air adjustable control under the memory foam mattress.  We both have loved this bed for almost two years now.  It has covered all our individual needs we wanted in a bed including sexy time.  Very happy with it so far. Has all the bells and whistles.  Much better than the sleep number bed we tried and better than the variety of memory and other foams mattress with the adjustable bases we tried.  it is also reasonably priced compared to Sleep number and some of the other adjustable base and memory foams we went through. Might be worth a look for you as well.

No personal experience, but have read about this Helix mattress.  You and your significant other both take the online quiz of body type and sleep preferences and it custom makes the mattress for you.  If big difference in softness/hardness looks like they do a dual zone comfort mattress with no actual divider space in the middle. Something to look into anyways.

Inlaws have split king but not adjustable (so two twins together) in a guest bedroom at their beach house where it makes some sense as you can then divide the beds to use two twins depending on what guests are over.  Downside is that it totally sucks as a King and I personally would never have it for my own bedroom.  If you have room for a King then I would get it.  We recently upgraded to a King from a Queen and a lot less of my wife annoying me with the larger bed.
