Got tickets to Cubs/Sox. May hit up another game or two this spring.

Will probably go to a couple games of Dbacks/Cubs in the regular season.

Spring training is the best time to watch baseball IMO and can't wait.

Whattaya talking about - I have had my spring training tickets for a couple of weeks (season tix in Surprise)

Shoot me a note if you get out this way for any games.

PS - for any of the following groups of baseball fans:

1) those who live in AZ

2) those who visit AZ for spring training

3) any Dodger fans

4) especially those in CA

The Dodgers have the most interesting spring training schedule of any team - they will actually leave Vero Beach in mid March with part of the team going to China to play in some exhibitions and the rest of the team coming to Arizona - they will take over the Athletics facilities in Phoenix (because the A's are going to Japan to kick of the ML season on March 25 & 26 against the Red Sox) - and will be in AZ for a week - some games in Phoenix (incl one against LAA), some down in Tucson, one here in Surprise and one in Maryvale against the Brewers - then they leave Arizona and have several games in LA - one game against the Angels and several against the Red Sox (on their way back from Japan) including a 1958 memorial game in the LA Colisseum.

Tickets for the Dodger spring training games in Arizona will be a HOT item.

You guys that already got your tickets. How?

I was under the impression that they did not go on sale today. It used to be that Tucson got first dibs on them by a few hours if we went and waited in line at TEP. I did not want to wait in line so I am waiting for 12:00 today to buy on line. Usually the people waiting in line are there for Cubs and Sox tickets.

Got my Cub/Sox tickets as soon as they went on sale by purchasing online. Want to say the Tuesday/Wednesday before last (Jan 8 or 9? I believe). About a week after the online ticket sale date, you could go to the Hohokam Stadium box office to purchase them in person if you wanted. (Whether they held an allotted (sp) amount back for the box office ticket sales, I'm not sure (always just purchased online).

I'm sure every team works differently, but that's how the Cubs do their ticket sales.

Edit: It looks like you're correct for the D-backs. Go on sale 2 hours prior at their ticket office. I'm sure they'll still be many available for even the Cubs/Dbacks when they reach online. Silly to wait out in the cold today

So you buy them through the Cubs? I did not know you could do that. I did not want to wait in line today so I am waiting for 12:00 to purchase on line.

Yeah, through their team website. This is only for their home games at Hohakam Stadium in Mesa.

The paper here says the Rockies have been selling theirs for a while to. I guess I should have gone through them. I just assumed all the teams did it the same day.

Awesome I got my ticket for the first game. 5 rows up from homeplate. I love playing hookie from work to drink beer and watch the first game.

So anyone coming to Tucson for Spring Training?

We could set up a cornhole. Maybe we could get Roarin sonoran and some of the phoenix guys down.

I rarely make the two hour trip down to Tucson - just takes too much out of my day....but if you get up to NW valley - I go to Surprise Stadium every day and often to Peoria or Maryvale, let me know.Another thing we might be able to do - would probably be hard for everyone to schedule - but the Dodgers will play a few "home" spring training games in Phoenix - at the Oakland facility. (they also have one in Maryvale and one in Surprise among others - not sure they are going to Tucson).

They have winter ball up there?I want to take the family up there for the first home game this year. Any reccomendations for a family friendly hotel near the ballpark? A few years ago we stayed a little bit away from the stadium and it was a hassle the way they did the shuttle. It would be 6 of us. Kids 2,5,10,and 13.I want to spend the night and not have to worry about driving  Thanks for any suggestions.

I'll be hitting the Cubs/Sox game as well. We'll be down the week of 3/12 - 3/19 and seeing a game everyday...ah, can't beat fun at the old ballpark!

btw, love the parks down there for the Angels and the Royals...especially the free parking for Royals games!

Worst park, bar none down there is Colorado's. A tornado could hit that place and do $100,000 worth of improvements.

After years of seeing the games just from the seats, we broke down and got lawn seats to one of the games...so we're sure to see rain at least that one day.

Not sure which team(s) or park you are referencing......BUT1st game in Surprise is Wednesday, February 27 (KC vs TEX)2nd game is Friday, February 29 (LAA vs TEX)Across the parking lot (free by the way) is a brand new Holiday Inn Express. They are not open yet, but will be well before spring training. It is on Bullard Ave - same street as the ballpark (make sure you get phone # for the right one)Across the street from the ballpark are several parts of Surprise Recreation Facilities including a pool, and the Heard Museum West is a short walk east, so there should be something for everyone within a short walk.

IIRC there's a steak place over there too.

Well we have an El Paso BBQ, as well as a Red Robin, Paradise Bakery, Friday's etc all pretty close (short car ride but too far to walk IMO) to the stadium - and more coming in the same complex where the Holiday Inn is located.

Sorry I was not very clear. I am talking about Chase field for the D backs home opener 4/7/08.Any reccomendations for hotel?

I was thinking about planning a trip to sarasota for spring training. How long should I go, how much should I plan on spending?

Has anyone on the board sold spring training tickets through ebay/stubhub/other? We overbooked tickets for Saturday March 15 (Rockies/Rangers at Surprise) and Sunday March 16 (Rangers/A's at Phoenix) down in Arizona and I'm looking to move them.

...sorry - can't help with downtown Phoenix

I live about 2 miles north of the downtown area/Chase. The Hyatt is walking distance but is more business type (it is walking distance). Springhill Suites is also a nice one. (couple blocks from the stadium). There's also a Wyndham that's supposed to be nice (don't know anyone that's stayed there, couple blocks from stadium). Personally unless being within walking distance is a must. I'd stay somewhere a little outside downtown Phoenix. (Shuttles can be a hassle. I'd grab a cab). Couple I have stayed at are the Crown Plaza and the Marriott (both about 2 miles directly east of the stadium). Both located around 44th street. Short cab/van ride. I've stayed at both and both were pretty nice.I'd just do a google search of downtown phoenix and hotels.

Thanks

Just got my tickets today for the final game at Al Lang in St. Pete. Been going to games there since I was 5. Going to be a little sad to know it's gone, actually.

That place is like sitting in a BBQ, I won't miss it much. I'll be happy when the new stadium goes up.

Chances of that stadium going up are slim. More than likely, it'll be more unnecessary condos.
