Sproles to get more touches than LT Monday (1 Viewer)

Via Rotoworld - Sproles over LT

"Chargers beat writer Kevin Acee said on NFL Network's Team Cam program that he expects Darren Sproles to get more carries than LaDainian Tomlinson on Monday night.

Acee said Tomlinson's toe is too painful for him to consistently push off and make moves horizontally. Acee also indicated that LT2 may only get around 10 carries against the Jets, just like last week. Sproles should be in lineups as a flex or RB2, particularly in points per reception leagues. He is a potent threat out of the backfield. Sep. 19 - 5:50 pm et"

So a beat writer is now game planning for the Chargers?

Beat me to it. Love how people take beat writers word for fact. HE EXPECTS... HE being a BEAT WRITER. This is just utterly stupid

So how far off do you think he actually is with his "expectation". He's probably dead on given the fact LT couldn't finish the game in Denver and barely can get on the practice field this week.

Can you please change the title to say "Beat writer says" .....

Thanks. Reporting speculation by beat reporters is something that is done at fftoday.com.

He's a beat writer.Let's say I go and start my own blog and I say "I feel Ryan Grant won't play at all this weekend" Is that factual? This guy's opinion is as good as the next guy's. Not even worth reporting. We all know LT's toe is bothering him. In fact, a friend of mine is an athletic trainer for the Chargers, so I am as informed as I legally can be. However, you don't see me making bold claims about how much he'll play this weekend or how many touches he'll get.

Just entertaining how everyone jumps on ANY news they can just to start a thread in the Shark Pool... this especially isn't worthy of conversation. Yeah, he's probably right and Sproles will play a big role in the offense this week, bigger than LT, but we all could speculate that- but we needed a beat writer to confirm our speculations? :lmao:

As little trust as one may want to put into an inference of a beat writer it may hold some water.

LT is injured and no clear sign of being healthy enough to produce to his level. Turf toe lingers and really affects gameplay so Sproles could be much more valuable than what he already is throughout the whole year.

It just seems like all this news is opening a huge door for Sproles to walk through...not only to be a significant factor this year but to be the future man as well, since LT mentioned he doesn't want to stay in the NFL too much longer.

Isn't that the point of a fantasy football forum? To talk about news that is reported? Regardless if this is factual, Sproles getting significant touches over the best RB in the league for the past X years is worthy of discussion...especially when you do compile it with this injury really being his first significant one and his talk of retirement (which I'm still taking as always being possible at the end of this year). And this information may be more true than you are aware of. So since you can't disclaim the information then it's worthy of discussing.

I agree. The reason most of us come to this board is for updates/info/rumors/etc. A beat writer is a hell of alot more relevant than some guy posting his top 10 wr's for the rest of the year. Too many people on here are starting to develop a messiah complex. Calm down, you're not the end-all of the fantasy football world. Some of us like this information. Stop with the technical "Can someone change this to a Beat writer stated" comments. It took you a total of 5 seconds to open the thread and read the poster's comments. Based on the fact that you have time to visit a fantasy football board, I'm sure those 5 seconds didn't take away much from your life. Enough with the board hall monitors.

:porked: :excited: If we only wanted official news from the NFL or the Chargers, we'd be at a mainstream media site like ESPN.com.

amen, brother!!

Well I do agree with one of the points Warriors Forever is making: that speculation, whether it's from a "more reliable source" as a beat writer compared to some joe blow, should to taken with a grain of salt.

However, speculation from a lowely beat writer or not it's still interesting to discuss in the event it is true.

...and I hope it's 100% true!!!

It's all speculation until the game starts. People on here breakdown LT's comments sentence by sentence. I agree you need to weigh the message and the messenger, but thetr has been a ton of comment, rumor, opinion, etc. on this all week. A beat writer, though he is stating his opinion, has alot more evidence to formualte the opinion.

Not sure why all the hate for Kevin Acee in this thread. The dude generally knows what he's talking about when it comes to the Chargers.

(That said, I don't trust Rotoworld to paraphrase him correctly at all, so I'd go to the original source.)

Kevin Acee has been covering the Chargers for the San Diego Union Tribune for quite a while, and is very well connected with the organization. He's seldom if ever wrong with his take on the Chargers, because if he's saying something it's usually a result of hearing it from the coaches/players/management themselves.

Discount what he says at your own risk.

HA! This reminds me of a time a few years ago when a certain Moose Knuckle would dig up stuff on every team left and right, and how everyone on this board would sing his praises for finding all this stuff. About 88% of the stuff was beatwriters stirring the pot of #### on a daily basis. Do people realize the beatwriter would be out of a job if he/she didn't have something on a daily basis for the team they are covering. Check out any local paper/website whatever, and read the articles about the team on a daily basis, and you'll realize quickly how much crap is regurgitated. A lot of obviousism too. Well Bret Farve was very unhappy with the loss to the Patriots. You think?!?!?!

(Rotoworld) LaDainian Tomlinson (toe) was present for the start of Chargers practice Friday.

Analysis: Tomlinson reportedly "looked good running and even cutting, at least at individual-drill speed." This report comes from Kevin Acee, who just said on NFL Network that Tomlinson might not get more than 10 carries in Week 3. Acee does write that Tomlinson "is expected to be limited Monday night against the Jets." If you have good other RB options, use them over LT2.

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/injuries.aspx?sport=NFL

I think the gist of it is:

-Kevin Acee is very well connected to the San Diego Chargers

-Kevin Acee was watching LT in the individual portions of practice. He said he looked good.

-Kevin Acee wrote that LT is expected to be limited, and stated that he may only get 10 carries.

What reason do I have to not believe this? LT looks good, is improving, and will be limited Monday night. Seems congruent with LT's comments, and seems sensible; Sproles is capable to get them over in an RBBC with LT this week. Mixed blessing for LT owners...he's on the mend but limited this week.

im so torn...i think sproles will have a descent game..i have to play 2 of 3..LJ, MJD, or sproles...i have grant also..but im prob gonna stick mighty mouse n my lineup somehow

You have to like San Diego's Darren Sproles. On that long touchdown run, I went back on the TiVO and counted how many steps he took: 755. Guy has a 24 inch inseam.

Draftsharks** LaDainian Tomlinson’s sore toe has bothered him and he’s made no effort to hide that fact. On Tuesday he said: "It tightened up some, swelled up a little bit [at Denver]. The one thing I'm happy about is it didn't get any worse after the game. I don't feel any worse than I did last week after the game, which shows it is improving and healing.” Tomlinson sat out Wednesday and Thursday. He’s been getting electric stimulation, ice, "pretty much throwing the whole kitchen sink at it'' according to Tomlinson. Today he was out there jogging in the morning media-open session. Good sign. Yesterday afternoon reporters caught him leaving the trainer’s room. "It's [the swelling] going down now; there was a little bit after Denver, but it is going down now,'' he said. The Chargers play Monday night. Bad news for tortured fantasy GMs, but good news for LT with another full day of treatment and rest. We expect him to start but Darren Sproles will mix in liberally.

If he descends any farther we won't be able to see him.

:confused:Kevin Acee is THE beat writer to listen to when it's about the Chargers. The tool factor needs to be turned down.

As an LT and Sproles owner in my main league, I would like to see LT take the week off, too. Rest it. Come back the following week and own 'em...

I happen to have LT2/Sproles and depth at RB. With that in mind, I will be going with Kevin Smith over either of them, although I am very tempted to go Sproles.

If you have to choose one of the two SD backs, as much as it kills me, I'd have to go with sproles at this point. I can't see LT2 having a great game, nor taking close to the full load. If they split carries, Sproles has more upside... LT2 has a LOT more downside.

Im going to play it safe and go with Smith, though I may decide to hold off assuming I start Sproles come Monday unless some crazy healing takes place with a quickness.

I think the key question is this: how does this differ from how LT looked in practice last week before the Denver game? My point being, sure, it's great that the swelling is down and that he's looking good, but are these the same circumstances that led to him re-aggravating the injury against Denver? If this is the same situation as last week, LT owners should remain cautious.

Sproles will slice that Jets defense to bits..150 yards rushing, 2 tds.

5-50 receiving

Thanks. Reporting speculation by beat reporters is something that is done at fftoday.com.
If you feel comfortable starting a guy who now has a solid reputation of dressing, running a few times and sitting out....go right ahead. But don't act surprised. A beat writer is closer to the team than anyone outside that locker room. Use it as a bit of info.I say anyone is nuts for starting LT this. Heck if you don't listen to the beat writer listen to LT himself. He isn't healthy and says so.

Are you laughing at the 24 inch inseam or the fact that some idiot just counted 755 steps on a long TD run by Sproles? ;)

People bashing Kevin Acee in this thread obviously have no idea who Kevin Acee is. He's almost always got the goods.

I really enjoyed this post...we're talking fantasy football not writing a thesis.

I'm starting Sproles as a flex this week. the coaches know what they got. they need to get him the ball in space. i expect a couple of big plays from the wee one.
