I was a little skeptical at first on how well received the draft concept would be with Rds. 1-7 offense, rds. 8-13 defense, rds. 14-30 offense/defense. I must say though it seems to have worked pretty well. It has kind of puts everyone equal when we draft only defense from rounds 8 thru 13. Some may not like this way of drafting but for a first year startup Dynasty I think it has worked good.

Our defensive scoring system:Solo Tackle- 1 pt.

Asst. Tackle- .5 pts.

Sack- 2 pts.

Fumble Recovery- 2 pts.

Interception- 2 pts.

Passes Defended- 1 pt.

Def. TD- 6 pts.

Return TD- 6 pts.

Blocked Kick-4 pts.

As you can see defensive players have good opportunities to score. I can see it could be easy for a defensive player to rack up some points on a weekly basis. I'm sure there will be cases where some defensive players are outscoring offensive players on a regular basis, which comes to my point about the draft concept.(Rds. 1-7-offense, Rds. 8-13 defense, Rds. 14-30-offense/defense) By drafting this way it kind of puts everyone on an equal basis. Owners will feel they have a better chance of competing week in week out with the draft set up this way. No one will be loading up on stud defensive players early on in the draft and have a fairly good chance to dominate in the scoring dept. I really like the way our commish has set up this draft. I'll definitely be looking for this type of drafting format in IDP leagues that I might join in the future.

Actually we haven't drawn the order yet -- what was raised as a concern was there are a few folks new to Dynasty and it might be very hard to know when to take a rookie vs. when to draft veterans. Myself, I'd think it would be a matter of research and take a look at rankings (like on this here fine site ) - and the newer folks are friends I've already offered to help with their rankings anyway.

Anyway, the thought was they'd (the rookie dynasty guys) have no problem with seperate drafts as it's a much different (and some would say easier) thing to draft rookies on their own than to decide where to rank them amongst the vets.

Honestly I haven't even heard on the rook owners regarding the subject but I am a rookie commish I thought I'd poll the longer term Dynasty guys here and get some opinions.

I'd like to have everyone happy out of the gate (relatively), have the league run smoothly so as to avoid potential turnover.

In my startup leagues separating the drafts the no. 1 vet draft position gets no. 16 rok draft position and vice versa ... it places the draft positions on more of an equal footing ... you get your shot at a top rook or one of the big three, but not both ...

I am somewhat amazed that in the drafts posted and the one I have linked to so far that Maroney is being drafted so late!

4th round? I don't know how much he will play this year (some, but who really knows what happens with Dillon and Faulk), but Maroney looks like a lock to start for the Pats next year.

You did draft him high (2.01) in THE FIX draft. Maybe people are thinking that Dillon will get more carries than you think. But, the 4th is about where I have seen him go on average.

I agree that I drafted him early at 2-1, but I don't think there was a chance in hell that he would survive two more rounds and be available at 3-12.

Besides since they let Tiki slide to 1-12

Don't have time to copy and paste the draft, but here are links to 2 brand new $125 entry, 12 team dynasty leagues that finished within the last month. Both leagues are 1 pt per reception, with starting requirements of 1 QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1 RB or WR FLEX, 1 TE, 1D, 1K. Rushing and receiving TDs are 6 pts, passing TDs are 4.

That's what the Zealots leagues do, but I don't like it. The people with the first three rookie picks get too good of a deal IMO.

In regards to the issue of whether to have a combined draft or seperate drafts - combined is the only way to go for the start-up draft. There's a good thread on this forum that pretty much proves that teams that pick last in the veterans draft and picks first in the rookie draft have a HUGE advantage over those picking early in the vet and late in the rookie. This is mostly due to the depth of talent.
