Starting Players Cut - Why Not Traded? (1 Viewer)

Why don't teams try to trade these guys and get at least something for them?

Robinson now looks like he'll be able to play all year for the Packers.

Carroll will play for Jacksonville.

Even if it's a 6th rounder, don't they have some value?

I bet it has something to do with their salary cap number and the hit the team getting these players would have to take. Both were 1st rounders so the salary cap hits were alot more than a 6th rounders would be. Just a thought....

Probably a decent question as far as sports in general are concerned but the NFL with the tight cap seems to always be the exception. Robinson after the Seattle and Vikings situations is a big risk and no team wants to have to shell out guaranteed money long-term. Carroll probably was dangled and nobody took the bait.

When all the rosters are full teams like to stand fast but then comes a bunch of injuries. I'd guess that teams have to depend on good timing which doesn't seem to happen all that often in the NFL. Look at Seattle. They really needed to add a RB after Alexander went down and there are a ton of backups that teams want to deal. Unlike in baseball or hockey where you make that deal to fill the gap for a long season, Seattle hits the wire and gets Weeks instead of trading a 6th or 7th pick.

To be fair, Robinson wasn't a 1st Rounder the second time around. Maybe they didn't think he would be eligible to play this year after the latest fiasco?

I think it's basically a situation where the Packers, with Carroll decided they wanted to just be rid of the hassle. Certainly they could have called every team begging them to take him off their hands, but how much is a team really going to give you for a guy you don't want.

Perhaps those calls were made and if teams wanted them, they figured they could just wait until he was cut.

The Packers should keep K-Rob, the guy is talented and still young, he just turned 26.

K-Rob can play the season out and help the team..do his time and be ready for camp next year and still give them 4-5 good seasons for no compensation.

It's all contractual. Carroll and Robinson were not claimed off waivers because no one wanted to be on the hook for their salary. If no one wanted to claim them for nothing no one would have offered a draft selection. By waiting until they are waived a team can negotiate a new contract.

Joe, curious how often you are able to trade the garbage that sometimes ends up at the end of your FFL team bench. I know the answer for me is not very often. The answer to this question is very easy...........it's the same reason no one in my FFL league will trade me or you anything for the guys I want to drop. :wall:

If they aren't good enough for the team they are on, other teams would have to drop a productive player to sign them. Generally, team like who they have....which is why they have them. I think it has more to do with other teams liking who they have than worrying about money/draft picks.
