Starting Safties for NO (1 Viewer)

Hey guys, just finished my draft this weekend. One thing that was kicked around is who was going to be the starting safties in NO. I have checked out a three sites and they all list a different combination of the 3 guys. (Harper, Vaccaro, Jenkins) Any offical word, does anyone know. Thanks

Vaccaro is turning heads sooner than expected and from what I hear could be the man in on nickle package.

Cyprien has looked flat awful this preseason and Poz/Allen represent reasonably strong competition for tackles. Landry was a competent in the box S and his numbers were somewhat meh.

I think Vaccaro is far more of a threat to Jenkins PT than Harpers. Plus the NO D has a chance to be on the field for a ton of snaps. Lofton and Hawthorne are competent but I think a step down from the Jax unit.

If its not dynasty I prefer Harper to Cyprien.

i would disagree here. Harper can blitz and that's about it at this stage of his career. Vaccaro seems to be able to do that *and* cover. In the early going of the season, he'll be matched up as a nickle but I think fairly quickly he can supplant Harper as the starter. The Saints would be better served with Jenks and Vaccaro as starters while Harper spelled one of them or came on during specific packages.

I don't really disagree with this assessment in terms of scheme and talent. I don't view Vaccaro as a true in the box SS, a role which Harper fills very well, but I absolutely agree with Vaccaro stealing some looks in passing situations. No doubt Harpers coverage leaves more than a little to be desired.

The thing that I see is Jenkins being slated for FA in 2014 and Harper having just re-upped his deal.

It's a big investment in the position to also sign Jenkins to go along with a 1st rounder and Harpers deal.

Harpers deal is fairly modest but I guess in my admittedly cursory take, Vaccaro seems slated to fill Jenkins FS spot in 2014 so would begin to inherit more of those snaps as the season moves along. I freely admit I don't follow this situation as closely as you might so I'm happy to learn something along the way. Thanks.

Regarding Harper's contract, he's effectively playing on a one year deal now.So there's that.

Jenks needs to play better this year because he's been mostly uneven. I think Vaccaro gives them flexibility (i.e., leverage) in determining the size of any deal involving Jenks. I don't think Jenks or Vaccaro will be used as classic FS/SS roles when on the field together. Both have coverage skills and can tackle. Jenks in not a threat to blitz but Vaccaro sure seems to be.
