Stay classy, San Diego (1 Viewer)

Non-issue. 600 tickets is nothing. The local TV station that would get to show the game typically buys the remainder and then gives them to charity as a tax write-off.

This wouldn't have been a problem if they didn't shove those ridiculous ticket package deals down peoples' throats. Sorry no, I don't want to buy the damn Seahawk preseason game tickets (only $10 less than a regular season game - such a deal) just to see an actual regular season game.

Anyway, someone'll buy these tickets in time (t.v. station, whatever).

So you think a SB contending team not being able to sell out for OPENING DAY is not an issue? ;) This is why every time the notion of having a team in LA is brought up, there is concern regarding real fan support. Southern Californian indifference has some merit.

The chargers have plenty of fan support in SD, Riverside and OC. If you put a team in LA, you have an existing fanbase that are huge supporters of Oakland and San Diego, not to mention every other franchise due to transients. This isnt an issue, the game will sell out.

San Diego doesn't speak for all Southern California. LA MLB teams do very very well. Dodgers and Angels are top 5 or 6 in attendance. I know MLB is different than NFL, but look at SC and UCLA numbers. This is a matter of stupid ticket packages and fans in San Diego not connecting with their team. Although I'm a bit stumped, cause it seems every time I drive through S.D. 1 in 5 cars has a chargers sticker on it.

Former season ticket holder - cancelled this season due to newborns taking me away from games. The ticket costs are cheap in comparison to other franchises. 650 a seat in the upper deck for the season - figure 90% of the games are in great weather. Its a good deal imo. Not sure why they arent selling out, esp with favre on MNF and NE on Sunday Night back to back home games.

Expect the same thing like 5 times a year. It happens every year, the Chargers are sold out and have a waiting list for season tickets, then a couple days before they try to pawn off a bunch of singles and obstructed view tickets to the local casinos/tv affiliates. It happend during last years playoff game vs Tenn if you rememeber. Heck it happend last week for the Monday night game against the Seahawks. It will happen again, but the bottom line, they sell out.

Nothing to do with fan support. They draw an average of 66,000+ fans and have 30 sellouts in a row. The Chargers want out of San Diego, or at least want more leverage to get a new stadium. They have fans on the waiting list for season tickets, but stopped selling season tickets in July, claiming that they wanted some tickets to be available for non-season ticket holders. Now they're unable to sell 600 tickets? Whose fault is that?

all true. at this point, they have no sold out games this season. means nothing.

It depends on what you mean by "do very very well". The Dodgers are great in all aspects (has alot to do with their national popularity), and attendance for the Angels is very good...but licensed merch for the Angels is terrible. Regarding the SC numbers...I recall the Opening Night of the college football season a few years ago with a ranked SC and a ranked Auburn selling about 75% of the stadium. Prior to the ridiculous Carroll run...the support there was not great.
