Steelers backfield to be blown up? (1 Viewer)

I do find it humorous that on one hand they complain about the lack of production, and on the other hand they highlight the fact that he only had 51 carries on the year.
I don't think I'll ever understand his lack of use. He was only used to give others a breather and never allowed to get into the flow of things. Mendenhall has/had (who knows) the big play ability the other backs don't. It takes a bunch of carries to hit the "big" one.
A behind the scenes issue seems likely, especially given the circumstances surrounding his December suspension.

I would like to see Stephen Jackson in black and gold, but I don't know how much tread is left on the tires.

Love to see him in Pittsburgh too but the Steelers aren't about to offer him the kind of cash he will be looking for...

SJ isn't looking for money as much as he is looking for winning. He's made plenty and never won. He wants to win. The progress of the rams under Fisher just might keep him in St. Louis

The Pittsburgh Steelers have offered restricted free-agent RB Jonathan Dwyer and RB Isaac Redman the lowest tender. Each player could receive a one-year deal worth $1.323 million if they signed their tender. The team could receive a sixth-round draft choice if they lost Dwyer and will have the right to match any offer Redman receives this offseason.

You should send this newsflash to every GM in the league because Im assuming none of them care about Dwyer or Redman, but you may be able to hook 1 or 2.

I wouldnt be surprised to see Redman plucked from the Steelers since the team that would be signing him wouldnt need to give up a pick, and the Steelers cap woes are well documented -- not sure they could match any offer if they wanted to.

Yep. The Steelers would only get a 6th round pick for Dwyer so really either are there for the taking if a team really wanted them. I don't see high demand for them though -- they've had flashes but were pretty blah for most of last season.

I want them to keep Redman. I don't think he's a 1,400 yard back or anything, but he's good in short yardage, he's damn near the toughest back in the league to get on the ground once he's got a head of steam, and he plays his ### off. Even showed a little something in the passing game this year I never thought he had.

You could do a lot worse as a situational/backup tailback.

That's basically what I was getting at, although Id be surprised by any "demand" let alone high demand.

He probably would have sprinted to sign it, had his belly not been dragging the ground behind him. :)

He basically got a raise for going to McDonald's and underwhelming. No way he wasn't signing that.

I've always thought the talent was there with Dwyer but he lacked dedication (other than to cheeseburgers...). Now he's a married guy with a kid and that can change a person's perspective. Who knows but the Steelers don't have much else on the roster and if they thought he was a bum they wouldn't have bothered with giving him a tender.

I don't think Dwyer is a bum but he needs to work on his stamina. The dude was tapping out after a 3 yard run.
