Stephen Williams WR (ARI) (1 Viewer)

I just offered Sims-Walker for him in dynasty. It's a big risk, but i hope he pans out.
I think that's a little much and I think Williams could end up the 2nd best WR in his class. Williams's price isn't that great right now.

I would certainly revoke that trade if at all possible. Sims-Walker is the guaranteed #1 in Jacksonville right now. Williams ATM is 4th Receiver when everyone is healthy. It might take a while for Williams to become fantasy relevant and I'm sure you could acquire him for less than Sims-Walker.1st String: Fitzgerald = 2 Years left under contract.

2nd String: Breaston = 1 Year left under contract.

3rd String: Doucet = 1 Year left under contract.

4th String: Williams = 1 Year left under contract.

5th String: Roberts = 3 Years left under contract.

-

Fitzgerald has two years remaining on his deal.

Breaston was a RFA this off-season and was tendered; not sure on his status for 2011.

Doucet's rookie contract expires after this season.

Williams signed a standard UFA contract.

Roberts has 3 years remaining on his Rookie deal.

-

In my opinion it shakes down like this:

The Cardinals have much depth at the WR position.

Breaston is a home bred talent that is absolutely adored in Arizona: sure hands, great routes, and has never been accredited with a drop. Whisenhunt LOVES him and will want to keep him on the team. However it's to be seen how much money he wants to be payed this off-season. If he wants to be payed as a #1 Receiver, we'll probably have to let him go because of the depth we already have. (...and that we'll be trying to re-sign Doucet as well.)

Doucet is another player whom the coaches love. He has a skillset similar to Boldin. However like Boldin the guy is made of glass; and cannot seem to stay on the field. It all depends on how much he expects to get paid next season, if Breaston resigns, and if Stephen Williams steps up making him expendable. Either way we should be able to tender him fairly cheap.

Williams is playing for dirt cheap this season. There's almost a 0% chance he doesn't make the team next year. With the possibilities of having a star player here; it may be likely to let either Breaston or Doucet walk and paying this guy marginally compared to what the above may want. In my estimation towards the end of the season we will know for sure by how much he is involved with the Offense. If he lights it up while Doucet is hurt, it likens the chance either Breaston or Doucet will be gone.

Roberts is only on the team because he was a 3rd Round pick. At the moment he is looking like a bust; but we will keep him until next off-season before we outright cut him. As it stands now; he has no longterm place on this team.

Just a little run-down for all of you who were wondering about the future of AZ's Wide Receivers.

I could see 4th. But not 2nd. No way.
Time will tell....More polished, better hands, every bit the size/speed as Thomas with a better college resume. Not sure who you have at 3, but I'll go with the upside of Williams.I think the scouts just whiffed big time on Stephen Williams. And I don't have a clue why seeing him in training camp & preseason.

Everything you said about Thomas is wrong except for polished.Mike Williams is the one you're forgetting. Easily #2 WR in this year's class based on what we know so far. Stephen Williams' upside is about 80% of what Mike Williams is delivering already (#1 WR for his team, TD his first week, projected for a big 2nd week, whatever it's early).

Did Andre sleep with your sister or something?

That's some good Kool-Aid you're drinking.

Aside saying he has no longterm place on the team (which he could muster a possession/return career...who knows), prevoius poster was correct in saying he is lucky to be on the team right now. He was awful in camp at receiver. Special teams was his saving grace.Hope he can turn things around, but for a guy that was drafted as a possession type WR, I was thoroughly unimpressed with him at camp.

He was awful in camp; dropping many balls there and in pre-season. Just looked awful in general. He's been beaten out by two undrafted free agents for a starting receiver job. (Williams and Komar.) The same undrafted player Komar passed him on Punt Returns as well. He's just been a bust so far and if he didn't have a 3rd-Round pick attached to him he'd be on the Practice Squad at the very least right now.

i like this williams kid he looked good in the preseason... very tall and lanky has body of a younger randy moss not as solid but could be decent esp. with doucet sidelined for 3-6 ... he will be wr3 on the cards

I like him a lot.. I picked him up a long time ago , dynasty league and we have 15 spots reserved for rookies ( We can keep them on a rookie roster for two years before inserting them in our regular lineup ) so it gives us a chance to pick a few guys like that and wait two years ..But your giving way too much for Williams, i say you can have him for second round rookie pick ....

#2? Who is #1?

guys, let go of the hook, he was line fishing and caught all of you at once ... he didn't offer MSW for SWilliams

oh and for the posters who keep saying he'll be #2 in this class and those arguing with him

i agree that SWilliams won't be #2, but i disagree that it is Bryant at #1 as right now MWilliams is a beast until he proves otherwise

sometimes we just find it hard to let go

for instance watch how long it will take before you see Best above Mathews on rankings (and Best was a fellow #1) ... it'll be 2 years before we swap Dez and MWilliams

so my recommendation is offer Dez to the MWilliams owner as long as he throws in SWilliams and a 2011 pick

I did in fact offer Sims-Walker for him and was declined. The self-proclaimed person with the "most knowledge" in our dynasty league does not want to give up on a potential "next randy moss." he doesn't see sims-walker as anything beyond a WR2 if everything breaks right while williams has the skillset to be a WR1 in time...so i then traded MSW for Reggie Bush.

I haven't seen a single snap of the Cardinals games this year. How has Williams looked the last two games with more playing time? His stats certainly aren't anything special.

Eh. He's been targetted on some shots deep. Unfortunately Anderson hasn't hit anyone deep this season; that I can recall. He did cause 2 Defensive Pass-Interference penalties against the Raiders last week.

How is SD's secondary? I'm 0-3, bye week desperate, and just crazy enough to try this.

I'm very seriously considering him as a #2 WR over the likes of MSW and Mike Wallace. Yeah, Wallace caught 2 TDs on 3 grabs but if you saw the replays, they were pretty flukey plays. His value will return with Roethlisburger.

It would be ballsy though.

Might not be a bad idea to roll the dice if desperate. You know they are going to be playing catch up all day.

He had some nice stats in preseason too. 11 catches for 187 and a score.

Not too shabby.

Dynasty:

If you have him; hold him.

If you don't buy low.

-

This off-season will make or break his long-term value.

1.) It's to be seen if Breaston / Doucet / Fitzgerald resign.

2.) It's to be seen if we draft a QB.

UPDATE:

Derek Anderson ended up being MUCH worse than I could have ever predicted. Anderson actually got this Rookie hurt after lobbing up a HIGH ball to him; getting him hurt. Still he has TREMENDOUS upside. Both Early Doucet and Breaston are set to become free-agents this off-season. It's now a waiting game to see who the Cardinals re-sign.

Breaston has posted a 1,000-season and could cost more than the Cardinals would feel comfortable paying. However Breaston is LOVED within the clubhouse, fans, and organization.

Doucet will most likely be allowed to walk-away. He's been a great talent WHEN he's been on the field; he's been almost as injury-prone as Anquan Boldin.

The Cardinals drafted Andre Roberts in the 3rd-round of last years draft which may give some insight as to their future WR plans. It is interesting to note that when healthy Williams was above Roberts on the depth-chart.

Expect both Williams and Roberts to improve with another off-season; specifically if either of these youngsters look up to Larry as a mentor. Roberts in the type of player whom is best-set to play in the slot. Where Roberts is best when played to the outside. I can see the Cardinals franchising Breaston for this season to see what exactly they have in Roberts and Williams. However for the next couple seasons I can easily see:

Fitzgerald (Wide)

Williams (Wide)

Roberts (Slot)

Ken Whisenhunt has proved last season that he still wants to be a passing football team. The Cardinals will likely bring in a veteran presence at Quarterback (Bulger, McNaab, etc.) and continue to groom John Skelton. People forget how DYNAMIC the Cardinals skill-players were with Warner under the helm. Whisenhunt is an Offensive-Minded coach. I encourage all of you to acquire the following three players in Dynasty ASAP.

Stephen Williams

Andre Roberts

John Skelton

It might be best to wait for the Cardinals to sign a veteran signal caller because that will cause Skelton's stock to decrease but it will also cause (Williams' and Roberts' stock to increase). Grab the receivers now while they're still SOMEWHAT under the radar.

 Fitz is unquestionably the focus of the offseason (making him happy). Giving him huge extension and/or also going out and getting a legit NFL QB (latter is a must obviously). They simply can't go into the year with Skelton as the starter. Whether bringing in Bulger or Orton (either of which I'd be happy with -- especially Orton as I think he can be the guy for a few years).

I think Breaston is UFA and will be put on the back burner with the holes on the team. I really think he'll be elsewhere. I don't see the Cards paying him the franchise tag, but he'll get paid somewhere (maybe not as much as expected as I expect a plethora of available WR talent around the league this offseason). Early's RFA I believe (probably slap a lower tag on him; if he's gone...he's gone).

I still very much have faith that Stephen can emerge here. (Roberts looked solid as well) I think WR is far less a position of need than elsewhere.

I agree with Roberts & Williams slashes (if not done so already). I don't see Breaston back personally.
