Steve Breaston (1 Viewer)

Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald are both banged up and everybody is talking about Bryant Johnson being a great play this weekend but what about Breaston? He's a rookie wr that really hasn't been involved in the offense but in leagues that reward points for return yards, the guy has been scoring a few points each week. Last week he caught two passes for 24 yards-that's nothing impressive but they were the first two catches of his career. With Boldin and possibly Fitzgerald missing this next game, what are his chances of being involved in Arizona's passing attack?

he hasn't been involved in the passing too much, obviously because of fitz/Q/Bj and pope. But he is a hell of a return man :football:

Don't know anything about his time in Arizona, but I watched him a lot at Michigan, and would not get your hopes too high on him. Awesome return guy, but was never much of a threat at a WR. He didn't have great hands, and didn't run very good routes. I'd be shocked if he did much as a WR in the NFL.

If Boldin and Fitz continue to be hobbled, any viable receiver on ARI becomes instantly attractive, rookie or not.

ARI gets to play an up-and-down Seahawks team, before squaring off against NO and ATL in two prime playoff weeks for most leagues. This is one of the most favorable fantasy playoff schedules of any NFL team, and in deeper leagues, Breaston becomes a very intriguing proposal if Boldin and Fitz don't get healthy.

I grabbed the following from the FBG site under Breaston (latest news...thanks bloggers!) as I think he could be a nice sleeper this year. Johnson is gone and I have not heard much on Doucet (is he more of deep threat?). From what I have heard (here and also in an article in the Sporting News) he has an edge on winning the slot position. On most offenses this is no big deal, but with Leinart still learning, Fitz/Boldin chance for injuries and Edge aging, I can see the slot in AZ having more opportunities than the typical WR3.

Any homers out there know much about him?

Cardinals WR/KR Breaston Making Waves

Kent Somers, Arizona Republic -

If one is looking for the most improved player for the Arizona Cardinals, all accounts say WR/KR Steve Breaston, a fifth-round pick in 2007, is the one player to focus on according to Somers. Breaston made a great impression last year as a returner, but has added some muscle, and coaches say his route running is considerably better. He made plays all over the field in minicamp two weeks ago, and he has continued doing it in OTAs. Somers speculates that his improved play may give him the "inside track" on being the slot WR for the Cardinals.

Making an impression

No Cardinal appears to have made greater strides this off-season than Steve Breaston, a fifth-round pick in 2007.

Breaston made a great impression last year as a returner, but it's clear he wants to be a better receiver, too. He's added some muscle, and coaches say his route running is considerably better.

He made numerous plays in minicamp two weeks ago, and he has continued doing it in voluntary workouts. He had at least two nice catches today. If he can play like this when the pads are on, the questions about the No. 3 receiver's role will have been answered.
