Steve Smith Belives In David Carr (1 Viewer)

No word yet on whether he had his fingers crossed behind his back as he spoke:

SMITH TALKS: Wide receiver Steve Smith broke his self-imposed one-week silence on Wednesday.

When asked if he's concerned with the direction of the season, Smith said, “Yes, but individually, everybody has to look at themselves and say how can they collectively improve the situation and make things better on the field.

"That may be watching film or whatever the case may be. Each individual has a task - there are 11 spots on the field and everybody has to do their job. When one doesn't do their job, it's off. Everybody has to work in harmony together, and if you don't, things like Sunday happen.”

THE SAME PAGE: As for getting on the same page with David Carr, Smith said, "I was thinking a certain way, he was thinking a certain way.”

Smith believes things will improve this week after they’ve had another week of practice together.

“We haven't played together in a really long time,” Smith said. “We've just got to get on the same page. Practice is totally different from the game. Different tendencies, the way teams play me. We have to get on the same page, talk things through. We had an in-depth conversation Monday, talked today, every day in practice we're talking about working with each other - not because I think he's the future or not going to be the future, but the bottom line is, he's the guy that's in there right now.

“To not be professional would be to say, ‘Well, when Jake gets back I'll start focusing.’ My job is to catch the ball and get into position to make plays. If I don't talk to quarterback who's in there at that moment, I'm not being efficient and I'm not doing the team any justice, or doing the offense the kind of job I need to do."

Sounds like he expects Jake to come back. Interesting...

Carr has a better arm than Delhomme, so it's intriguing.

The problem, is what the problem has always been...he makes Drew Bledsoe look like the Flash when it comes to getting rid of the ball quickly.

Carr's a classic case of having the arm, but not the instincts.

In related news Smith also believes in Santa.

Jokes aside this line should be able to give Carr protection and time that Houston never could, so with more time as starter and knowing he's starting, it will be interesting to see if he can work out any mojo with Smith and his other weapons.

I say Carr does better than most think he will.

As Wesley Snipes said in White Men Can't Jump:

"The sun even shines on a dog's ### some days."

That's how I feel about Carr against the Saints.

Schaub seems to be doing quite well behind that line.

The line got better at the same time as Carr was released. Are you saying that line has been good the previous few years? THis is a point you can't even debate.

People say stuff every day. That doesn't mean they actually believe it. Watch this.

David Carr is a solid NFL quarterback.

See how easy that is. I typed it out like I or any other sane person could actually believe it. Watch again.

David Carr is not a significant drop off from Jake Delhomme.

It really is quite easy. Especially when the alternative is to say something along the lines of, "yep, all of you are right. We're officially ####ed." That does no one any good and only makes Steve Smith come off like a punk. He could of course just have no comment but that can only go for so long when you are the best player on the team. Nobody cares if Drew Carter says nothing. But the longer SS goes without commenting, the more the press and people here will read into it. He pretty much has to say something almost identical to what he said.

Whatever happened to the tactic of "throwing the ball as far as you can and let Steve Smith go get it" ? I thought Carr would thrive in a system like that.

I agree. I think he did the right thing here as a team leader. However, his reactions this past Sunday on the field provided a much stronger view of how he really feels about the situation. I think Smith is smart enough to know he's probably screwed if Carr is the starter but he has to pump his guy up and try to pump the team up as well. I doubt anybody in the Carolina locker room is feeling all that good about their QB situation right now. Other than maybe Carr who's probably oblivious to how awful he is or doesn't want to confront that fact.

The OL was and still is good. Carr made it look bad. To even think it wasn't carr is ridiculous. Carr would never have been able to take the team to a win this week against Miami.

Steve Smith has more patience than I do. If I was on the Panthers I would tell Carr if he leaves the locker room with the gloves on... he would be eating them at half time.
