i dont really have much more to contribute, but if there are any other owners out there starting smith then you know that getting ANYTHING from steve smith is feat worth celebrating.

as rick james would say, "its a celebration (w)hich"

-biz-

Started him over Mason in a league I needed upside and benched him for someone tomorrow: Roddy White or Darius Walker where I wasn't happy with the risk of nothing. That said, Smith's TD came on a blown coverage by Reaves on the first play after Newman got hurt (who hasn't returned). If Dallas had challenge Smith may have stepped out too.

You know looking at his numbers, he really has had that bad of year considered what happened with his QB position. Not a WR1 but I think that he can bounce back and be a nice value pick next year.

Benched him for Bowe. That's a tentative :wall: but we'll see. I'm glad to see Smith in the endzone again, finally.

It also came after Delhome, Carr and Testaverde in a s$%^ year when he hasn't had a sniff lately............don't piss on a beautiful thing!!!

Yeah, he picked a great week. :coffee: He sucked for enough weeks to not even sniff my lineup in the championship game. First Holmes on the bench, now Smith. Then TO goes down after some, but not enough WR1 points. White Lightning better run it up against his old team to make up for those two gold mines earning points on my bench. Wh, besides Gumbel, would've guessed that Smith would have 7 carries (according to BG) for 137 yards and a TD.

Smith would have had more yards than that, but the refs robbed him of that 50 something yard catch he made.

I disagree. They got that right. Reminds me of the Braylon Edwards TD against AZ. He was touched before he had possession, despite the fact that the touch made him go down. He didn't possess the ball at the time of contact. It was whisker close, but technically correct. I do think that Smith got away with a catch that shouldn't have been. And furthermore, the refs really screwed the Panthers on that PI call. Good job of Smith proving what he can do, too bad he took 2 months to show us. And huge :IBTL: to the refs who clearly influenced the game with bad calls for both sides. Including waving off the defenseless receiver penalty when the Panther clearly hit Barber with nothing but the helmet.

Started Housh, Burress, and Bowe over him and I bet none of them sniffs 10 points much less 19. At least that would be fitting given the way my year has gone.

k thx
Most of the owners following that strategy with Smith weren't in their Superbowl this week.Other than that, great post.
 :leftSmith's20pointsonthebenchbuthavefourotherstudsstartinginhisplace:
 Hmmm, Id say ya'll missed some football delving along the way...

at 4 pts per TD:

1 game - missed with an injury

3.33 per game - 6 games which David Carr played

12.75 per game - 8 games when Carr was not tossin' the pigskin. (inc tonite)

David Carr wasn't playing when Steve put up negative five yards for me in the title game last year . . .

He's been much better of late in PPR leagues. He's been a solid WR3 in PPR leagues for the last month. Tonight he was Steve Smith again but if you're a Smith owner in PPR leagues he's been much more viable lately. I'm more concerned about his shoulder injury. Any Panther homers here any post-game updates?

I didnt own him last year. :IBTL: And the week after that (last year) he had 100+ and 2 TDs. Common among WRs.

What was he before tonight w/o Carr, since a 20 point game can tend to skew some averages? And furthermore, what was he before tonight with Moore as his QB, which is a much more germaine comparasin than simply "without Carr"? At this point in the season, all we can base our lineups on are past performances. And nothing in the last 2 months would lead to 137/1 tonight. Smith fell out of "never bench your studs" a long time ago when I lost games with points on the bench and Smith in the lineup.

Not ppr, so he's been worthless to me the last 2 months with TO, AJ healthy and Welker/Holmes for the 3rd spot. He's been so bad for me that I never even considered putting him in over Welker or Holmes.

As I posted above, his production has been much better of late. Not Steve Smith-esque but not as horrid as it was several weeks ago. He had at least 5 receptions in his last five games going into tonight with two games of 8 receptions. The yards weren't there and the TDs obviously weren't but in a PPR league he was showing signs of life again. There's no way one could have predicted he'd go off like he did tonight (what's scary is he should have had over 180 yards receiving but the refs screwed him out of another bomb) but it wasn't a reach to predict a WR3-type of game from him in a PPR league.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't have started him in a standard scoring league ahead of those two guys either.

I realize now that the above points must be in a ppr league. But in non ppr, he was an afterhtought going into tonight. And I don't think he got screwed, I think he lost out on a technicality. But they should've gone with the ref's initial call, the one standing right there, of a completed catch and made Dallas have to challenge to reverse it. Then they'd have a TO left at the end of the game. Not a good showing by the zebras in this game, on both sides.

Steve Smith is probably my favorite, and possibly the best receiver in the league, but it would be stupid to ignore his drop off in production when Delhomme is out of the lineup. I'd have loved to start him this week, but no way was I going to bench Colston or Moss (Randy), though both will no doubt suck tomorrow . . .

My points listed are for NON PPR. 122 points on the season.

I think he got screwed. That looked like a catch to me. And I'd say the same thing if I wasn't a Smith owner. He caught the ball, had possession, came down and the ground caused the ball to come out. I'd rule that a catch no matter who the receiver was.

Again - any Panther homers hearing any news about his injury? For those of us whose leagues play out the season this is pretty big.

I didn't see the rest of the series after his long catch. I know he returned but did he look like he was favoring his shoulder at all? RotoWorld made it sound like he was trying to play with only one arm. So that's why I'm wondering if the injury is serious or not.

It didn't look like it bothered him much at all. He was even waving it and pointing out stuff pre snap with the injured arm. No grimacing. But he was knocked off his route pretty easily on the only play I recall that he was targetted on. If I had just turned on the game I would've never known he had injured it at all, much less as badly as it looked a few minutes prior.

Start your studs.k thx
Smith has been very far from a stud the last 2 months.Thx
Agree... He's been a bust this year, and goes off while on my bench. Can't predict these things. Especially when he's got a scrub QB throwing him the ball...
had i benched him weeks ago i would've been playing in the SB in the one league i have him...i just knew he would do something when i didn't need it...thanks alot.

:) I have 'em in 3 leagues... still going for gold in all 3. I did bench him in all those leagues for about a month though.

Thanks Steve.....it's been a long time....but thanks.Maybe Steve owned himself in his league and was in the SB.... :)
Whatever the reason is: :bowtie: I played him over Dayne, Henry and Boldin. I'm in the SB as well. Thanks Steve!!! Way to come through buddy!!!
