Steve Smith Week 12 (1 Viewer)

"Steve Smith (shin) practiced Wednesday and will play in Week 12.

Smith got Week 11 off to rest what was believed to be blood clotting in the leg. He has a fantastic matchup against the Saints this Sunday. Drew Carter will return to his third receiver role and isn't a fantasy option."

Vinny gave Drew Carter 132 yrds 1 TD in week 11. Yes it's still a 44 yr old QB throwing the ball. But he is in the flow after starting consecutive weeks. What can we expect from SS this week vs NO at home?

Panthers: Testaverde will start against Saints

Carolina Panthers coach John Fox named Vinny Testaverde his starting quarterback for Sunday's home game with New Orleans following today's practice.

Fox had waited until Friday to announce his starter in recent weeks, but made it clear today that he thinks Testaverde is the best option right now. That means David Carr, signed during the offseason as insurance behind starter Jake Delhomme, remains the No. 2 man.

Also, Steve Smith, recovered from his shin injury, returned to practice. And Fox said Chris Gamble (broken thumb) had surgery on the digit Tuesday but is likely to play Sunday.

Gamble did not practice today. Also getting practice off were running back DeShaun Foster (toe) and defensive tackle Damione Lewis (shoulder).

Temper your expectations, however, as New Orleans is improving (again) and Smith didn't blow up against them before. There is also no guarantee how healthy he is or how long he will last.

New Orleans may be improving, but is Jason David? Yet another massive play against him (a 73-yard TD from Johnson ) last week (see also: Colts week 1, Joey Galloway, heck even Ike Bruce got a TD against him and he's older than my grand-dad). The Saints play David on the right side, rather than switching the corners around, so it should be easy for the panthers to get him matched up against David. OCs know all about his fallibility (the Rams threw against him all day 2 weeks ago). If ever there was a week for Smith owners to make sure he is in the line-up, this is it.

As far as insurance goes, it was not a good purchase.
