I don't know about the rest of you that have Jackson, but I did not want the 5th pick this year knowing it is a spot where you have to take him. With the history of players injuries after long holdouts like what Jackson just had, i'm afraid that he is going to have some severe injury within the first 3 weeks of the season. Anyone else afraid of that?

just have seen too many long holdouts end with early injuries ie: Larry Johnson is the first that comes to mind recently

This is why I avoided him.

Johnson was 3-4 years older and had just come off a record setting carries season. I think Jackson got into camp in just enough time to avoid getting injured in a meaningless preseason game, but still get 2 weeks of practice with his team. I have drafted him with confidence this season.

Do you care to name your long list of holdouts that ended with early injuries? Or is it just because it happened to 1 guy last year, so in your mind it always happens?

I for 1 am really happy he did hold out and there are some question marks or i wouldn't have got him at 6. i was hoping all off season he would slip to 6 and he did and now i got a possible top 3 back in the 6 hole.

Also he is in great shape and has had a couple of weeks to get ready to go and has got some good rest so he's 100% healthy.

Good point. Tomlinson treats preseason as a joke and nothing is ever said of it. Running backs, more than any other position, do not seem to need the pre-season. If anything, I prefer they hold them out so they avoid unnecessary wear and tear. As long as they keep in top shape while missing the time, I could care less. I heard nothing about Jackson coming in out of shape, so I am not too worried.

Any pro athlete that doesn't keep himself in shape during the offseason, or during a holdout, would be foolish. Especially athletes that are on the higer end of the pay scale in their respective sport. On top of that, SJax just looks like the kind of guy who keeps in shape year round for the sake of keeping in shape. They play in a crap division. I'm loving SJAX, he can arguably go #2 and I wouldn't blink an eye. I think he goes huge this year. Rams will be significantly better than last year's debacle...

Agreed. Another Example of Holdout who tore it up ... Emmitt Smith. Im not worried I took Jackson yesterday in Dynasty draft at #4.

I think people are scared off from SJax because of the correct perception that St. Louis "best show on turf" days are over. As a team, I don't expect them to be as explosive as they were a few years ago, but a lot of people don't seem to realize that what a huge centerpiece of the entire offense Jackson is. If they point any points on the board at all, there is a high probability he will be the one scoring them. He is a steal anywhere after the third pick.

I got him at 1.6 in my 2nd big-money league, and was just thrilled to get him there. Holdout or not, there's no way he should have fallen past 1.4, after LT, All Day and B-West are off the board.

Plus, he gets Al Saunders as an OC, and no coordinator runs the ball inside the red zone as much as Saunders does.

Pace's shoulderalready being dinged up and the Rams being on their 3rd string undrafted Center has me more worried about SJax than him missing a bunch of meaningless preseason games. I will be amazed if Bulger makes it through this season without injury.

Everyone keeps talking about how bad the Rams are....just think about Miami last year. SJax is a better RB than Ronnie and the Rams have to be better than the Dolphins were last year. A great back on a bad team can still produce.

I had the 6th pick in a big money league last week, and I passed on Jackson.

Tonight, in a family league with eight of us (that we are doing for fun more than anything) for a lot less money, he was still there when I got to pick 8th and 9th, so I had to take him. Randy Moss was my other pick there, so to get Moss and Jackson in those spots could be great value.

I took him 4th in a redraft last night after LT, ADP and Westy went and had no hesitation. He should get a load of touches when on the field and that alone gives him more value than Addai and MBIII.

former Bengals T Willie Anderson was chatting with them. If he signs there, that'll be a bit reassuring to add some quality depth at T. It's not a C but Pace has been my worry this offseason

I got SJAX at the 6 spot - happy with it - but share the holdout/injury concerns.

In a very relevant thought - anyone cuffing SJAX with Leonard or Pittman? I almost did - but hesitated because I wasn't quite clear on who is the clear backup or are we looking at RBBC - if so - Leonard getting goal-line?

I didn't. Not just because I'm not sure which RB would start in Jackson's absence, but I highly doubt whomever gets the gig would be productive. Leonard wasn't effective last year, and Pittman wasn't able to surpass Travis Minor on the depth chart in camp.

Those are good points. I did spend a very late round pick on Leonard just b/c. However, if SJax goes down, there is little value in the STL run game in comparison.

For those worried about how bad the StL offense is going to be, how is that any different than the majority of his career so far?

Sjax has performed well in the worst conditions possible. 3rd string QB, injured WRs, injuries of his own, 13th string offensive linemen, and even a backup head coach. Even with backup linemen he put up one of the best fantasy seasons in the last decade.

With Sjax, you only have to worry about Sjax getting hurt, because he can still play well with me or you as his QB. We saw how poorly Jackson's replacements played last season when Jackson was out. He makes most of his points on his own. He can perform well in bad situations, and if even half the guys that got hurt last year stay healthy he could be an absolute monster.

Also, that's not mentioning that somehow everyone is overlooking the fact that Al Saunders is the new OC in StL. What has Jackson's biggest FF hurdle been so far? That Linehan loves to throw the ball when he gets down in side the 10. What does Al Saunders do inside the 10? Run, run, run. Jackson's TD numbers could get a huge boost this year on top of numbers that have already been pretty elite.

You can make an argument to stay clear of just about every player in the draft for one reason or another.

The bottom line with SJax is he gets the ball a ton.. he will rarely leave the field and he is a beast.

I drafted him and will hope for the best...

We actually don't draft until tonight but he guy with the first pick already made his selection. He took Jackson. I'm a fan but #1 just seems to be too much.

I have taken him in every league I can. No carries in preseason means nothing (just ask LT), it is how good of shape he has kept himself in as hamstring pulls are the most likely injury.

Someone did in one of my leagues too. It may seem like a reach but its really not, just couple of draft spot's difference.

I have love to have S. Jax this year. After drafting him at #4 in first league, unfounately, (not) I got back 2 back #1 spot (1st and 2nd time ever in 6 years). So, @1 S. Jax was just little bit of reach over a player named LT. But I do like him more than AD and I do mean it.

Hi Jim,

Thanks again for doing this chat.

Is Pace hurt? I keep reading things on the internet that indicate that he is hurt. Linehan's comments seem to indicate that Pace is fine and will play on Sunday.

Jim Thomas: Pace injured the biceps tendon on his right arm trying to make a tackle on an INT against San Diego. It's totally unrelated to the shoulder surgery. He should be fine for Philly, an dtook a full workload Monday in practice.
