Stewart owners (1 Viewer)

i traded marques colston for stewart in february 2010. we can only protect 10 players each offseason and i'm not sure stewart is going to make the list this year. i have a good team, have won the league the last two years. i have a shot at a 3-peat. i don't see a reason to hold stewart to win in 2012 or 13 if i can have a shot to win this year. some of my guys (jones-drew, turner) are getting older. it'd be nice to have stewart rostered for the future. i don't know. i may shop him a little (along with jones-drew), but i'm not sure i'm going to get any legit offers back. with only 10 keepers and 11 teams, i don't see a good team giving anything up and a bad team isn't going to want to give up a high pick, either.

I'm hearing that the organization would be willing to move Stewy.
From who? Just wishful thinking deangelo/Stewart owners.
Someone who works for the organization, who doesn't play fantasy football.. Indeed FF owners hope this happens, but that has no barring on the info I'm passing on.
I can't imagine why they would trade Stewart with his low salary, plus, it seems clear that they want both stud RBs to make it easier on Newton this year.

This move is a real head scratcher. However, as a Stewart owner, to answer the original question, I am going to hold. He's too talented to release and his value is at an all-time low. Perhaps Williams gets hurt or something. He's a free agent next season. I almost hope Stewart holds out at this point.

Nope. He has 2 years left. If it was just one more year then it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

I hate to pile on, but he's not a FA until 2013.Stewart contract

I'll shop him, but doubt I'll see much of a return and will likely just stand pat. Maybe for a late 1st round pick? A WR breakout candidate? His potential is equal to either of those, IMO, but doubt you'll see that kind of trade value.
I would not give a 1st for him

I would for a RB that has flashed elite talent and is behind or in RBBC with Williams (who can't stay healthy).

What can you do? Hold. Or sell. Or buy. I could see any of those options being viable. His value took a huge hit, and my guess is that his actual value is pretty close to his trade value.

Do you need a guy that might be a decent fill in for a week or two over the next couple of years and a POSSIBLE good starter later on? Keep him or grab him. Might not cost that much at this point - some owners might be fed up. And there a decent chance he could be a very good starter any time Williams is out.

Or do you have pretty good depth and don't feel like sitting on him for another 2 years. Go ahead and sell. You won't get much, but something is better than nothing especially if roster space is tight (opportunity cost).

That's one owner's take. It sucks, but the value is what it is at this point so you have to evaluate team needs and go from there. One thing I'll note is that he just turned 24. Even though it seems like he's been in the league forever, he came out VERY young so that helps a little.

So, he will be 26 years old when he is eligble for FA. I would assume he will leave and be highly sought after but, then again, I would have thought DWIL would have left too.

Ok, so If I own him WITH DWIl, I hold and just hedge my bet and believe I ahve a top RB this year, regardless.

If I own him without DWIL and my team is rebuilding, i am on the fence but inclined to deal him. especially if I am light on RBs because I can't keep holding down on an investment that seems fated never to materialize. At some point you gotta ask the question if JSTEW is THAT good, why does someone break the bank to keep DWIL and never, in the past, turned the reigns over to him. I mean, really, wasn't last season the ideal scenario to "see what they had in JSTEW"? Most teams in that situation, if they believe in the younger guy with the smaller cap number that is signed for two more seasons...usually they let the FA go.

If I own him without DWIL and my team is contending I sell him for anything that justifies me making a run at the title this year...and boy do I sure hope it pans out and I win because I can live with it.

If I do NOT own him and I'm rebuilding, I buy him..Why not?

If I do NOT own him and I'm contending, I pass.

if I do NOT own him and I'm contending and I have some depth somewhere, I probably roll the dice...just because his name seems able to hold up to drive up perceived value..Maybe in a year or two, a situation occurs where he may get a shot and people (maybe not the people that have been burned by him twice now) will be interested.

If true (and I doubt Hustler would just randomly make this up), I think it speaks volumes on the perceived value of Stewart versus the true value of Stewart as a starting running back in the NFL. I own neither, so I have no dog in this race, but the fact that the team overpaid to bring back an "old" RB tells me he is not as good as Dwill...not a horrible knock since DWill is very good, but at some point don't you have to ask yourself, "why do they refuse to play him or give him a majority share of the carries?". I giggle, because the second the "DWill to resign" rumors started, I knew it would have legs. The organization (1) like to stockpile RBs and (2) has found a need to do so for the past 12 years. This is the same group (sans Fox for a bit of the time), that had Biakabatuku (sp), Eric Shelton, and DeShaun Foster (all guys who they thought could be difference makers and were snakebitten by injury). DWill, though injured at times, is the most consistent RB they have had in their existence...and given they are a running team, they need people who are healthy. Whatever happens with Stewart, I just don't see a big "pay off".

I think the plan for Stewart owners is to cry and whine like they always do. Mixed in with a dollop of wishful thinking. Just kidding (but not really). I do think Stewart would be a great FF force if he were the feature back somewhere, but who knows when or if that will happen.
