Stock Tip: Micron Technology (MU) (1 Viewer)

So MU filed their financial report on Thursday showing revenues down and you recommend them on Friday?

Great advice here. You have a newsletter I can subscribe to?

MICRON TECHNOLOGY, INC., REPORTS RESULTS FOR THE
THIRD QUARTER OF FISCAL 2015

BOISE, Idaho, June 25, 2015 – Micron Technology, Inc., (NASDAQ: MU) today announced results of operations for its third quarter of fiscal 2015, which ended June 4, 2015. Revenues for the third quarter of fiscal 2015 were $3.85 billion and were 8 percent lower compared to the second quarter of fiscal 2015 and 3 percent lower compared to the third quarter of fiscal 2014. Cash flows from operations were $1.34 billion for the third quarter of fiscal 2015.

"In the fiscal third quarter, Micron experienced market headwinds driven primarily by weakness in the PC sector," stated D. Mark Durcan, Chief Executive Officer. "We remain focused on the long term as we continue to deploy advanced process technology to enable leading-edge products and drive manufacturing efficiency."

GAAP Income and Per Share Data – On a GAAP(1) basis, net income attributable to Micron shareholders for the third quarter of fiscal 2015 was $491 million, or $0.42 per diluted share, compared to net income of $934 million, or $0.78 per diluted share, for the second quarter of fiscal 2015 and net income of $806 million, or $0.68 per diluted share, for the third quarter of fiscal 2014.

Non-GAAP Income and Per Share Data – On a non-GAAP(2) basis, net income attributable to Micron shareholders for the third quarter of fiscal 2015 was $620 million, or $0.54 per diluted share, compared to net income of $941 million, or $0.81 per diluted share, for the second quarter of fiscal 2015. For a reconciliation of GAAP to non-GAAP results, see the accompanying financial tables and footnotes.

Revenues for the third quarter of fiscal 2015 were 8 percent lower compared to the second quarter of fiscal 2015 primarily due to a 10 percent decline in DRAM average selling prices and relatively flat

Come on guys, you're smarter than this. Micron Technology's stock dropped 20% in one-day because of their earnings report. $491 million in earnings versus $806 million the year prior. Is buying now in anticipation of a rebound not the definition of buy-low? It's like the old Warren Buffet quote,

"Be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful".

This is a company that has revenues of $4.05 billion. It is most profitable off it's PC parts and we are in the slow time of year of selling PC. They have other products such as cloud technology which has revenues that are increasing each quarter. Next generation cell 4G LTE cellphones will DOUBLE DRAM & NAN content.

The market that Micro Technology is in is changing. They are a company with vast resources who will figure out where to cut production, where to increase production, and where to halt production outright. A 20% drop for a company that earned $491 million is silly in my opinion. We are in the age of cellphones, tablets, and personal computers. That sector is only going to continue to grow.

I see a chance to buy into a company that is viewed as on the 'chopping block'. I have faith that adjustments will be made and next Quarters Earnings will exceed this Quarters earnings. On virtue of the holiday seasons coming up, I can all but guarantee these will be the lowest earnings over the next year. Which definitely makes this stock a BUY LOW!

Lots of faith that they can turn it around, but no real facts to support it. A growth company in a good economy should not have lower earnings. Something is not right.

I may be simplifying the research I've done but from what I understand, their sales in Personal Computer parts has decreased. In fact, 60% of their revenue comes from computer part sales. The decrease in revenue is now overly significantly however, as revenue was only 8% less than last quarter and 3% less than the third Quarter from 2014.

Simply put, MU can't make the personal computer market boom again. What they can do is adjust to the market which is geared towards cell phones, tablets, and cloud technology. They've lowered revenue expectations for the next earnings report and it can only HELP the stock price if they exceed these new lowered earnings marks.

Most importantly for me is that most experts still have the stock ranked as a BUY:

"We rate MICRON TECHNOLOGY INC (MU) a BUY. This is driven by some important positives, which we believe should have a greater impact than any weaknesses, and should give investors a better performance opportunity than most stocks we cover. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its revenue growth, largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures, notable return on equity, attractive valuation levels and expanding profit margins. We feel its strengths outweigh the fact that the company shows weak operating cash flow."

According to data compiled by Thomson Reuters, Micron (NASDAQ:MU)’s stock is covered by 32 equity analysts across the Street, with 2 analysts giving it a Sell rating, 25 a Buy rating, while 7 consider it a Hold. The 12-month consensus target price for the stock is $35.06, which reflects an upside potential of 73.14% over the current price.

Note: This 3% decline in revenue was it's first decrease in the past 10 quarters.

"Micron's mobile revenue was one of the few operating segments to report sequential-quarter growth, up to $938 million from $856 million the quarter prior.

Management was optimistic on the potential for Micron in mobile, saying Micron is getting increased exposure across a range of mobile devices, and that 3-D NAND will begin volume production in the second half of 2015."

"Revenue slips tend to wreak havoc on Micron's stock price. A run of top-line declines in 2011 destroyed more than half the company's market value at one point during that year. That is helpful context given that Micron is down 44% this year, including a brutal selloff on Friday.

The stock now trades at about 8.6 times forward earnings, making it the cheapest in the PHLX Semiconductor Index."

The other two analysts are working at Walgreens. Here's what they told Em about their opinion of MU:

Makeup counter girl: "That shade of blue looks really good in your hair"

Photo center boy: "Couldn't help looking at your pictures. You and that blue-haired guy make a cute couple."

I'm confused, it's up $2.40 (13.35%) in premarket.
But it is below where you recommended the stock on June 26th, even with takeover talk.
It's only been 2.5 weeks...
It would really help when you picked a stock, you would inform us when to buy and how long we should be looking to hold. Coming back after the fact and pointing to a low or a high does no one any good. Not that anyone is going to listen, but just saying.
